- Terraria has two distinct evil biomes, but is one better than the other? Many people disagree on which biome is best, so in todays video I compare the corruption and the crimson side by side to try and determine if one is better to play.

There was originally going to be more exclusive biomes. There was going to be a "Candy" biome to replace the hollow. A "Hell" biome would replace the Underworld. A biome called "Swamp" would replace the jungle.

Acquired new item: Burger Seeds.
For people that doesn't know yet. You can buy the other world evils seeds from the dryad while she is in a graveyard biome in hardmode. With a little work creating artificial biomes you can easily get almost all loot in a single world.
It’s just a matter of accessibility and other than the expert mode accessories and ichor/flames the rest of the loot is useless by the time you could grow another biome

I have 1000 hours on terraria and i have to say the crimson being mostly a nice flat plain with no annoying pits is my main reason for picking it all the time

I personally prefer crimson for the following reasons:
-the ichor debuff is rather useful in early hardmode
-Brain is more fun for me
-it’s easier to navigate early on (like you said) I don’t want to fall to my death 2,763 times

I feel like roles could also make a difference here, specifically melee and ranger. Corruption seems to have more stuff related to ranger while crimson is more related to melee

The Graveyard is only requirement when you're in hardmode.
Otherwise just a Blood Moon in early game to get opposite evil seeds.
But I prefer the Drunk world seed so I dont miss out on anything.
I really wish they’d let you naturally generate worlds with both evils without it having to be a drunk world

I think I prefer the Crimson, but having to deal with spiders (arachniphobia lol) and losing access to Wrath potions is a hard sell, even in exchange for Ichor. Still, you can always just hop to a disposable secondary world with the other evil biome no matter which one your main world has.
i myself do not like world hopping in my runs (just my preference) so i usually bring the dryad to a graveyard to get crimson seeds on a corruption world. and i can have both in coexistence ^.^
I like the crimson more because it was my first biome and it has many good weapons like the vampire knives, dart pistol and you can get ichor which is good to combine with dart pistol as ichor darts lower defense though the worm scarf is very useful
use the dryad to get ichor as you can get crimson seeds if you get her to a graveyard during hardmode.

For me it's always been like: Corruption has the less annoying enemies, Crimson has the cooler gear, Crimson has the money farming boss, Corruption has an easier boss, but also Crimson has a lot of red and that is a favorite color of mine lol
This said, I typically gen a corruption world anyways when doing a new character.

@@filewr8515 Odd, I've always found EoW to be easier. It can *get* harder than BoC, but only if you let it get out of control. Though, neither are exactly "difficult" either. Mayhaps save for Master Mode which is just kinda painful in all respects.

This decision is so damn hard. The highlight for corruption is the wrath potion for me, while for crimson it's ichor. Both are absolutely amazing in combat.
Get crimson seeds from the dryad. You can get it by putting her in a graveyard during hardmode. This allows you to get ichor. But base should be corruption as its better.

@@woomynationDo you mean that Vilethorn is impossible to get if your world is corruption? If I got it right - it's not true. You can just fish in the artificially placed corruption biome to get crates, that have a chance to drop Vilethorn. Quite a stretch, I admit, but it leaves my soul more pure than if I would create a different world to get a certain item

You know what, screw this question, I'm gonna go get DRUNK.
Crimson is so much better. I appreciate it's lore so much as this living, infesting thing that just wants to assimilate your world as it has done to so many others. Also the music is so good, it basically sounds like the biome is "waking up" to your presence as it tries to kill you and ultimately assimilate you into its being. It's aggressive, throwing everything at you like something out of Berserk's Eclipse, which makes it all the more frightening to you when it quickly erodes the world in Hardmode. It feels like you're running from it even more, given the danger it brings to you. Add onto the fact it feels like an alien presence, unnatural to your world, and you got yourself a good threat to deal with in the back your mind as you search the world for resources.
All in all I think Crimson is so much more effective in its role as an Evil Biome.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who compares Terraria to Berserk lol
Also let's give props to the Terraria team for making an alternative to the Corruption that is almost exactly as much liked.
I wish they would do the same for the Hallow, could be cool as hell.

And yes, vampire knives are the deciding factor since I can never remember to get health potions and it’s easy in boss fights to go on the defensive and dodge while healing.
Reasons to choose Crimson:
- More challenging fights
- Better worldgen
- Ichor
- Better loot (arguable)

2 months late to the conversation but it's mostly the challenge. It's a bit boring imo to be able to just make a new world if you don't get what you want and that's especially true if you like the way your world was loaded - be it geological features, progression, or simply because you're dedicated to seeing this world through.

Crimson and corruption is like picking what version of the new Pokémon game you are gonna pick except terraria has both versions included on one copy
I would also point out that the corrupt mimic drops the clinger staff and the crimson mimic drops the fetid baghnakhs, which are both very good weapons, but for a different class.
People always talk about the evil biomes’ color pallets but I never hear about how they expand in Hardmode. The corruption’s cursed flames turns its relatively monochrome color scheme to a purple and lime, which works well for its overall diseased, infected theme, while the crimson’s ichor expands upon its red, gory theme with a fitting yellow
Nobody really cares since even though the colors are technically there they appear rarely, so ppl focus on the main ones

The first time i played with my friends it was in a corruption world. I cant tell you how scary it was to just go around the map and suddenly see a flying worm with 7 eyes followed by 5 more of them. I like the crimson but corruption is my favorite.
Just be thankful the creature in the background of the Crimson ain't alive anymore because it seems as if it's 10x as big as Moon Lord is.

As a melee, I need ichor. If I stack Ichor with the sharpened buff, I will have 32 armor penetration, which is absolutely broken.

I know certain seeds contain the two infections, but if you want to use crimson any time you want just use the graveyard, since when the dryad is in the graveyard she will give you the opposite infection seeds.

My only reason for corruption being my favorite is how fun the music is! It also just feels so creative when they put the leitmotif in the underground theme and its almost like they wanted to trick you with the intro being the normal underground theme.
As a German I got really confused at the Word Leitmotif until I Realized it’s the exact same wird in German

I prefer crimson's music, it match the environment and biome, and gives a vibe that i am in a place that i shouldn't be at, especially underground crimson. ALSO 1:31 of underground crimson music
Step 1: get to hardmode
Step 2: place dryad in graveyard biome
Step 3: buy seeds of the evil biome your world doesn't have
Step 4: create an area in your world to place it so it doesn't spread
Step 5: profit

I just wanna quickly mention this but, you forgot the brain of confusion. That accessory CARRIED my entire melee master mode playthrough and I cannot list how many times that thing saved my life.

Ya know, it's weird. Purple is my favorite color, I love eldritch creatures, and adore the theming of the corruption, but I vastly prefer the crimson. Something about its environment just feels better and scratches some sort of itch, same reason I love the Plague Flight from Flight Rising and the whole idea behind the Mystery Flesh Pit.
Something about a fleshy landscape and venturing into the maw of the beast to face the source of the heinous creature infecting and spreading across the land is just so satisfying to me

I personally like the Crimson way more. The corruption feels more like an otherwordly landscape, however the Crimson in my opinion fulfills the role of "nope, don's wanna go there, ever" much more efficiently. It's kinda scary. And that's why i love it so much.
I choose both, since it's possible to obtain corruption or crimson seeds if you have their respective counterpart world, that way you can have both ichor and cursed flames, which personally is the biggest difference to me. Using both is so much fun..

Expert mode Eater of Worlds drop is just too good to give up on.
The crimson creates these cool caves with body like caverns that feel like they’re breathing. The enemies are scary, bloody and truly evil. The corruption creates these gigantic nasty pits that ruin the world & sometimes cross horizontally and the enemies are just various sizes and lengths of eye covered bugs. Hell, when I first discovered the crimson I didn’t even realize it was an alternate version of the corruption. I just thought it was a cool biome, in fact it was my favorite one.

When i first join terraria my first random biome generate is crimson which is MUCH MORE CHALLENGING because those crimeras cant get using my shortsword lol. But in crimson is just easy when i tried and pickaxe in crimson is much more powerful? Ig? So E.

i like the crimson more because it's easier to enter. for example, you are greeted with a tunnel ending with a massive space, big enough to make an arena without having to blow up space

I like the corruption because it works with the continuity, like eater of worlds -> destroyer and soul of nights are purple.
imagine hating the other type of biome instead of having two worlds with both biomes and just consistently farm them if you need anything from any biome

I've been playing since the 360 release, so I fell in love with the corruption.
Personally i let the world choose but I have a small preference for the corruption after the world kept Giving it to me so i guess you could say it grew on me

You forgot the vilethorn, a sadly underappreciated mage weapon.
I feel most mages on expert and master mode will agree that having this thing can be a godsend against most pre-hard mode enemies.
One cast rapidly ticks out damage and can slow down most enemies to a near halt without pushing them around.

I feel the corruption is more relaxing on the eyes and devourers are pretty rare… except in the zenith seed. I also think that the scourge of the corruptor is better for golem than the vampire knifes. The crimson can be annoying to navigate too with the cave entrances blocking pathways and the face monsters chasing you can corner you unless you have jumping accessories which makes navigating both biomes easy

With the brain of confusion’s new buffs, it’s arguably better than the worm scarf. If we’re going on health alone and not personal preference, brain of Cthulhu is easier. As well as that, it is also very vulnerable to grenades, similar to the eater’s vulnerability to piercing weapons. And although I may seem biased from this, I actually think both of them make for very fun playthroughs. Honestly, I think putting selection on random makes for way better playthroughs. And in the end, it doesn’t matter too much, because we’re still playing terraria.

Well, personally, I just choose one or the other, and if I need something from the other biome I just create a new world.

I wish people would take more advantage of the fact that you can use different characters on different worlds. This isn't Minecraft.
@Ryan Munyon it really isn’t because you have to still do things to gather what you need. If your world didn’t have chlorophyte (impossible but a what if) is it cheating to get it from another world? No because you’d still have to get it.
@Ryan Munyon no it doesn’t taking away the challenge would be being able to get it instantly. You still have you put in time and effort doesn’t take any of the challenge if anything it adds more because you have to use more time to get something from another world for example like a biome key.

I think, like most, I tended to favour the corruption for the longest time because of the nostalgia. I played Terraria from day 1. However I now found myself picking crimson more often, not just because I haven't played it as much, but because I think the theme and design is so much cooler. All that said, what I really like to do is make use of seeds like the drunk seed so I can get both. Why choose!
I've always been a corruption player, I played the game very early into its release on mobile as a kid, I still remember getting the update the crimson was added in. The flesh theme, enemies and especially the brain of cuthulu were scary to kid me so whenever I was making a new world I'd delete any that spawned with crimson as the world evil and only play corruption worlds. I don't hate the crimson now but I guess old habits die hard, I only play corruption worlds because the crimson still is a bit more freaky to me. I'm so used to the corruption i just feel at home, the boss and enemies are easy even just starting a new play through and it's no problem in hard mode either. Maybe some day I'll become a crimson fan but for now I'm still a corruption fan

in general i would chose crimson
because:
1. the brain of cuthulu drops the brain of confusion, which gives a 1/6 chance of dodging an attack ( roughly 17% dodge chance) which makes it extremely good vs the empress of light daytime fight
2. ichor
3. the armor set i feel benifits also rangers since it doesent just give melee speed, so i use it on both classes
4. if you are playing meelee you can get the flesh knuckleswich can be made into a hero shield or a berserkers glove ( tho hero shield is not very good because it will only increase your defence by 1 more from the paladins shield) Edit: the shield has been changed to give 10 defence,!
5. and because i like the way that u dont fall into holes when exploring the corruption, and the fact that theres not multiple ways to get inside the crimson!
6. i like the variety of enemies

i like both biomes but the crimson i feel has more pros than corruption
If you like crimson you showld try for the worthy brain of chutulu with pre skeletron gear trust me its gonna smash you most likely atleast the first few tries

I tried playing on a Crimson world lol, neglect it too much it'll have 3 Crimson Biomes spawning in your world and if u wanna go to one edge pre hard mode ur gonna have lots of trouble XD

honestly, i like both. as someone whose first evil biome was the crimson, i sorta got used to it till i began my first expert mode playthrough. i was playing on seed 05162020 (drunk world) which has both corruption and crimson i chose drunk world as at the time i preferred the crimson. the eater of worlds boss for me was kinda annoying when facing it for the first time but only because i didn't know piercing weapons shredded it at the time. i now use spiky balls if i get a goblin army and spam them in the underground corruption however the brain of cthulu was literally rng for me. i managed to the get the muramasa early by killing a dungeon slime which spawned next to the first golden chest (in drunk world dungeon generates under a living tree with differently colored leaves and the first golden chest generates *ABOVE* the dungeon guardian cutoff line allowing you to open it with a golden key) so yeah i go to underground crimson set up only 2 massive platforms bc of the steroid abusing annoying ass blood crawlers which came up on screen every 2 seconds smash a single orb (for some reason both crimson hearts and shadow orb count when u break them i broke 2 shadow orbs before that and thus a single broken heart pissed off the brain) and the creepers ain't much of problem they go down quick thanks to godly muramasa but the third phase where brain makes illusions of itself is absolute bullshit the brain keeps surrounding u with its illusions and if all 4 illusions manage to touch u take significant dmg i died twice before killing it but brain of confusion is definitely worth it saved a ton of hits multiple times anyways for biome chests the vampire knifes are super stronk jus the fact that healing reduced in expert is kinda nuts however the scourge of the corruptor is *ABSOLUTELY CRACKED* does more dmg than terra blade helped me kill the duke I'd say both r solid, the scourge is useful for shredding boss and vampire knives life saving during fights if u cant heal I'd say crimson enemies are much more annoying than corruption enemies (with the exception of master mode devourers💀)

I think it depends on your class. For melee and summon go crimson and for ranged and magic go corruption. The crimson has the Fetid Baghnahks, Vampire Knives, Crimson armor, Ichor, and Flesh Knuckles for melee players and the Berserker's glove and Ichor for summoners to use with their whips. Corruption has the Musket, Unholy arrows, Cursed darts, Toxicarp, and Recon Scope for rangers and the Band of Starpower, Putrid Scent, Clinger Staff, and Cursed Flames tome for mages.
