Its possible for cis people to get misgendered as well depending on how you look or act, culture has an impact as well. You only get the option to select your pronouns at the very end of character creation, after you've typed in your name, you have four buttons you can press, Confirm, Cancel, Rename Character, and Pronouns. So when he says how you can't just skip it, HE IS LYING. You can just press confirm and exit character creation, I've seen people do it!! Your characters pronouns are defaulted to either he/him or she/her depending on the body you pick. So ya.
I've played Starfield since last Friday, and the entire pronouns thing is on screen for 2 seconds and you can completely ignore it if you don't care about your character's pronouns. Just enter your character's name and press 'confirm'. That's it.

My dad used to be like this (not quite as ragey and screamy though) and he would do nothing but talk about politics and get upset about them. Games always had "everyone is a pansexual" syndrome, with the exception to this rule generally being either games which don't allow you to choose your gender or games which just block off same-gender romance options. Games which cared about your gender choice beyond how the characters call you are in the minority. And let's be real, the games which make sure to change your gameplay depending on what character you choose/make won't suddenly stop being made just because there's pronouns now. You literally brought up a game where you can pick your race, Dragon Age 3, and I'd say it's much more complicated to implement the idea of race into story and gameplay than it is for you to have a different pronoun.

You know what really blows my mind about this cringe meltdown - that there are people who defend it. That there are people who think that this absurd reaction to something that has ZERO consequence in-game and was just there for role-playing purposes was worth defending. Like, seriously? Back in 2016-ish, I like a lot of people had a hateboner for SJW stuff that I later realized was kinda silly and overblown. Even with that in mind, remembering roughly the kind of mindset this dude must be in, I truly cannot fathom how someone gets this upset about something like this. Even during the most intense part of my anti-SJW phase I just treated it like an insignificant symptom of a much larger issue, and I was more interested in stuff like censorship, human rights violations and the like. And mind you, I saw games where you can type in CUSTOM pronouns, which might just have given this guy rage-induced cardiac arrest. What I'm saying is that if you truly believe that there is some awful political agenda that's going to take away your rights and identity and whatever else you're scared of, why is THIS what causes the big freakout? You can say "straw that broke the camel's back" all you want, this has been a thing in mainstream games for almost a decade now so you should be used to it. Not to mention that, oh I don't know, the world is full of death, human rights violations, and all manner of horrific stuff that probably should have broken the camel's back before this. I know he can't acknowledge stuff like hate crimes for ideological reasons, but there's still plenty of better things to be upset about for someone of his leanings. It comes off to me as someone who just lives an insular life consuming media and not really interacting much with the real world, where the biggest inconvenience in your life is apparently being asked to give basic respect to people you probably won't even interact with anyway. It's so weirdly common for people to want to be bold political activists at the frontlines of some culture war while also refusing to do anything more than watch TV and play video games and then complain about not agreeing with its politics online. You're not a warrior, you're not doing anything, you're just some whiny dork. As should be obvious from the fact that your "side" has been losing the "culture war" since it "started". This is actually one thing that got me out of my anti-SJW phase. I realized that no matter how upset I was, it wasn't going to change anything. And I had bigger priorities than devoting myself to a life of activism that may have some impact, so I just decided to chill out and see where things go. If I didn't like it, too bad, there have always been plenty of things I don't like about the world. I'd object to things or support them when I thought they mattered, but that full-time hypersensitivity mode was exhausting and fruitless. I think it would be great for these people's mental health to try the same thing. Politics makes you dumb and stressed, and if you're not gonna engage with it in a productive way anyway, might as well disengage. At least a little bit. Also, while I still am not particularly fond of custom pronouns for linguistic reasons (he/she/they should be enough for anyone and adding more is just confusing and superfluous as far as I'm concerned, and personally I'd rather move on to just having ONE set of pronouns for all people rather than adding more), I consider it an absolute non-issue since I have legitimately never met anyone who actually does that. I haven't seen the "ze" thing in years and I think I might have seen one or two "hir" online ever, and that's it. So you can't even really argue that adding that option into a game is a "reflection of a greater issue", because unless I've just missed something, it's really not on any level. And not only can you just ignore that feature if you don't like it, but you can also just use it to immaturely give yourself joke pronouns for the fun of it. It's still a feature, not the absence of one, so as long as it doesn't get in the way (which it doesn't), I'm not complaining. I know this is lengthy and largely pointless, the video just provoked some thoughts that have been largely dormant in my head for a while and I had nothing better to do than write them out. There's just something weirdly fascinating about seeing people older than me acting in ways I did as a teenager, but taken to confusing extremes. Talking points I thought were debunked long ago, logical fallacies I thought nobody used anymore, all manner of stuff showcased in this very video. I have that Dunning Krueger effect thing where I assume that if I've figured something out, realistically anyone else should have it figured out by the time they're my age, possibly sooner since my reasons for figuring it out might be accessible to them before they were to me. Its possible for cis people to get misgendered as well depending on how you look or act, culture has an impact as well. And online not everyone likes posting what they look like in the first place. but I feel like in certain spaces people only ever hear pronouns being talked about in reference to trans people (despite the fact that pretty much everyone uses pronouns).

Babyface is lying. The game automatically sets your pronouns to match the body type you selected, and on the last screen of the character creator, they give you the option to change said pronouns. You have to actively look for it. At no point does it "compel" you to pick.

57:30 Now I dont play Starfield, but I did go look at some gameplay footage, specifically the character creation part of it, and watched it through. You only get the option to select your pronouns at the very end of character creation, after you've typed in your name, you have four buttons you can press, Confirm, Cancel, Rename Character, and Pronouns. So when he says how you can't just skip it, HE IS LYING. You can just press confirm and exit character creation, I've seen people do it!! Your characters pronouns are defaulted to either he/him or she/her depending on the body you pick. So ya.
I've played Starfield since last Friday, and the entire pronouns thing is on screen for 2 seconds and you can completely ignore it if you don't care about your character's pronouns. Just enter your character's name and press 'confirm'. That's it.

My dad used to be like this (not quite as ragey and screamy though) and he would do nothing but talk about politics and get upset about them. Id try to talk to him about literally anything, and it would turn into a political discussion, even though I mostly agree with him on everything. Games always had "everyone is a pansexual" syndrome, with the exception to this rule generally being either games which don't allow you to choose your gender or games which just block off same-gender romance options. Games which cared about your gender choice beyond how the characters call you are in the minority.
And let's be real, the games which make sure to change your gameplay depending on what character you choose/make won't suddenly stop being made just because there's pronouns now. You literally brought up a game where you can pick your race, Dragon Age 3, and I'd say it's much more complicated to implement the idea of race into story and gameplay than it is for you to have a different pronoun.

Back in 2016-ish, I like a lot of people had a hateboner for SJW stuff that I later realized was kinda silly and overblown. Even with that in mind, remembering roughly the kind of mindset this dude must be in, I truly cannot fathom how someone gets this upset about something like this. Even during the most intense part of my anti-SJW phase I just treated it like an insignificant symptom of a much larger issue, and I was more interested in stuff like censorship, human rights violations and the like. And mind you, I saw games where you can type in CUSTOM pronouns, which might just have given this guy rage-induced cardiac arrest.
What I'm saying is that if you truly believe that there is some awful political agenda that's going to take away your rights and identity and whatever else you're scared of, why is THIS what causes the big freakout? You can say "straw that broke the camel's back" all you want, this has been a thing in mainstream games for almost a decade now so you should be used to it. Not to mention that, oh I don't know, the world is full of death, human rights violations, and all manner of horrific stuff that probably should have broken the camel's back before this. I know he can't acknowledge stuff like hate crimes for ideological reasons, but there's still plenty of better things to be upset about for someone of his leanings.
It comes off to me as someone who just lives an insular life consuming media and not really interacting much with the real world, where the biggest inconvenience in your life is apparently being asked to give basic respect to people you probably won't even interact with anyway. It's so weirdly common for people to want to be bold political activists at the frontlines of some culture war while also refusing to do anything more than watch TV and play video games and then complain about not agreeing with its politics online. You're not a warrior, you're not doing anything, you're just some whiny dork. As should be obvious from the fact that your "side" has been losing the "culture war" since it "started".
This is actually one thing that got me out of my anti-SJW phase. I realized that no matter how upset I was, it wasn't going to change anything. And I had bigger priorities than devoting myself to a life of activism that may have some impact, so I just decided to chill out and see where things go. If I didn't like it, too bad, there have always been plenty of things I don't like about the world. I'd object to things or support them when I thought they mattered, but that full-time hypersensitivity mode was exhausting and fruitless. I think it would be great for these people's mental health to try the same thing. Politics makes you dumb and stressed, and if you're not gonna engage with it in a productive way anyway, might as well disengage. At least a little bit.
Also, while I still am not particularly fond of custom pronouns for linguistic reasons (he/she/they should be enough for anyone and adding more is just confusing and superfluous as far as I'm concerned, and personally I'd rather move on to just having ONE set of pronouns for all people rather than adding more), I consider it an absolute non-issue since I have legitimately never met anyone who actually does that. I haven't seen the "ze" thing in years and I think I might have seen one or two "hir" online ever, and that's it. So you can't even really argue that adding that option into a game is a "reflection of a greater issue", because unless I've just missed something, it's really not on any level. And not only can you just ignore that feature if you don't like it, but you can also just use it to immaturely give yourself joke pronouns for the fun of it. It's still a feature, not the absence of one, so as long as it doesn't get in the way (which it doesn't), I'm not complaining.
I know this is lengthy and largely pointless, the video just provoked some thoughts that have been largely dormant in my head for a while and I had nothing better to do than write them out. There's just something weirdly fascinating about seeing people older than me acting in ways I did as a teenager, but taken to confusing extremes. Talking points I thought were debunked long ago, logical fallacies I thought nobody used anymore, all manner of stuff showcased in this very video. I have that Dunning Krueger effect thing where I assume that if I've figured something out, realistically anyone else should have it figured out by the time they're my age, possibly sooner since my reasons for figuring it out might be accessible to them before they were to me. Yet I keep seeing full-grown adults who are just kinda spinning their brain-wheels in the mud acting like actual children, and it baffles and saddens me.
