Omg the boating lake… Thank you soooo much… Your trip has healed some traumas..I was hoping it was skeggie when you gave us the little clue last week… Omg!! That costa back I. 1996 was Skegness’s first KFC.. Oh my life!! I worked there loved it.. What about Boston??
As a kid there were only two holiday destinations for us : Blackpool and Skegness. Terrific video here, which shows new buildings and revamps that were not there when I last visited in the early 2000's. The Compass Gardens were much better in the old days, with manicured flowerbeds and no 'wild vegetation' as they have today. The old postcards visible online show what it was like before. The Waterways are still there, which was one of the major attractions in the early days of the amusement area. Fond memories of me and my bro, riding on the Simca-style slot car ride which rode over the Waterways TWICE. Many will remember same car ride at Yarmouth and Belle Vue ( Manchester ). The pier was much longer, but was wrecked in a storm back in January 1978 and never rebuilt to full length. I see the 'Uncle Tom's Cabin' restaurant has gone, though probably a while ago now.
I remember as a little kid from the East End going to Skegness and staying at a b and b eating breakfast and seeing elephants having their early morning swim. So beautiful. I shook trunks with them. Xxx
Hi Stephen thank you for another great video as always I live 60 miles from skegness but I never go there I think I've been once in my life I would rather travel 4 hours to Blackpool more of an atmosphere for me but we are all different have a great evening xx
I went in Atlantic fish n chips, took me 45 mins to get fish n chips and peas to eat in,people that came in after me got served first,I asked the girl if the boat had sank that had caught my haddock !!!!
Skegness used to be a nice resort years ago, like most of our seaside towns were, its such a shame that they all look like dumps now. I find them very depressing these days so i avoid them because it makes me so sad to see just how much they have declined.😢
Must have been the same time as me. I was in the audience aged 10 when he did a drum skit and threw the drum sticks into the audience. I caught them and after the show I went to get them signed by him. He was so kind he invited me into his dressing room and gave me a cup of tea and we had a little chat. (Don't worry, my grand parents were with me, so it was all above board.) I have never forgot that encounter with a very funny and talented man.
Thanks Stephen, great video. Yes Skegness does have plenty of gardens and trees, the gardens are actually really pretty in the summer with lots of very colourful flowers and greenery, especially the ones where the fountain is up near the clock tower. Up a little way from where you were at the pier heading North is the Skegness Butlins holiday camp, and a little further up from Butlins is Ingoldmells where they have a big market open seven days a week from spring to autumn and there is a big theme park there called Fantasy Island. There is also a raceway stadium there between Skegness and Ingoldmells called Skegness stadium where they hold banger and stock car racing and they also have the monster trucks crushing cars. There are some really nice buildings and houses in the Skegness area. The outdoor bowls on those greens is still used in the summer there in Skegness, there is also an indoor bowls centre as well. The outdoor bowls restart in April 2024.
I must be honest and say the most uplifting part of this video is you! My son has just looked over my shoulder and said oo mum that is Skeggy, do you remember it? It looks a right blooming dump now doesn't it? I am also in the dumps seeing it now but you are a ray of sunshine at least! It looks ore than a little bit downtrodden compared with its charming, well kept, well preserved former seaside. They developers have wiped their muddy workbooks all over it!
Been going to Skegness for the last 60 years and got a van up the coast and I'll tell you skeggy is loads better than years ago , it's a thriving clean holiday resort now , loads of new activities and the beach is cleaned and smoothed everyday , don't judge on a winter video .
Hi Stephen This is my local seaside. I have had many a happy holiday there. They still have bowling matches at Skegness. I went last year and stayed in a bed and breakfast place and it was full of people who play bowls they have big matches going on.They take it really serious its all they talk about over breakfast. The pier got damaged in a storm in the 70s it used to have a theatre at the end of the pier. They never bothered repairing it or it was too expensive to repair. They do have lovely gardens they are full of flowers in the summer. The car parks are expensive in the summer especially the car park near the clock tower and toilets are really expensive to use. Luckily I know where the free ones are.
Great video Stephen, thank you. Brought back a few memories of a nearly misspent youth! A lot has changed since my visit for the better I'd say. The parks and greenery really show Blackpool up a lot more could be done in Blackpool. Shocked the Witherspoon was shut for so long obviously a big refurbish job. Hope you enjoyed your stay.😊😊😊
Fantastic video as ever stephen, I live in Ripley Derbyshire and along with many people from Nottinghamshire Skegness is the "seaside place we have always been used to visiting since childhood along with Mablethorpe just up the coast. werther it be for a long holiday or just a day trip being on the A52 or a more northerly route.
Great little vlog Stephen, been to Skegness many times, last year wasn't great weather but nice change from being at home. The day we came home was a scorcher, so managed to get young granddaughter on the beach for a couple of hours, she loved it , thanks for the memories 😊
Hi and good evening Stephen, thanks for a brilliant video ,i love skeggy ,chapel and Mablethorpe ,all south of the Humber bridge and Bridlington ,Scarborough and Whitby to the north, the lights of Hunstanton can be seen on a clear evening if you are on the shore at night {even better off the pier } just thought id mention it ,you have actually shown me parts of Skeg i didnt know was there like the church on the roundabout [ definatley giving that a look this year ], anyway as you guessed its quite bracing in SKEGVEGAS and very busy during the summer ,look forward to you getting out and about a bit more this year thanks x
Thank you Stephen for a lovely walk in Skegness, lived in Lowestoft for a few years but never made it here. Thoroughly enjoyed the video and you never fail to entertain and inform, you’re the best mate. Be safe always. Took a lovely screenshot of the Clock Tower and St Mathew’s Church in the roundabout, thanks! ❤😊
Hi Stephen loved your walk around Skegness have visited it a few times but I much prefer Scarborough and Whitby, is a beautiful little place it's a big hit with thousands of holiday makers though in the summer especially staying in the caravan parks I think you've done wonders walking round letting everyone know it's not as bad as people make out ❤
Great video Stephen I love Skegness, it never looks it’s best in the winter like anywhere I suppose. You should visit again in summer it looks so much better they plant lots of the gardens out with lovely flowers . Gets very busy when the sun shines.
Thanks for another great video Stephen, although it's out of season it seems very quiet as far as people that stay in Skegness goes. If Blackpool council can afford to pay £10,000 for five or six tree's they should be able to get there fingers out and do a bit of scenery changes,as far as gardens go . Skegness definitely puts Blackpool to shame as far as gardens go. Looks good some of the places even if it is a small town.
Yes the gardens in Skegness are really pretty in the spring and summer with masses of pretty flowers, and when the trees are in bloom it's actually really lovely. many of the trees in the tree lined streets are a mass of pink in the spring. And the whole of the front is lined with flowers in those holders on the railings, masses of colourful flowers that look really pretty in the spring and summer. Some greenery and flowers along the front is definitely something Blackpool could do with.
My parents loved Skegness they went there on holiday many times. Its not the same now its nowhere as busy as it was back in the 70s & 80s but then thats probably the same for most British seaside towns.
Love the video, really like skegness and now looking forward even more to my holiday up there later in the year. Always really busy in the summer its just they shut things up in the winter.
Skegness pier use to be much longer than it is now. During the 70s I remember seeing Norman Wisdom in the theatre that once stood at the end of the pier. Sadly, it fell victim to a very bad storm they had in the 70s. My auntie use to have a caravan thier, We would always go off to Skeg for holidays when I was a nipper. Happy days 😊😊
Had a couple of holidays in Skegness as a kid in the early 1970’s. Fantastic place as a kid, so much to see and do then. Even had a cinema where we went to see the On The Buses movie. Plus the whole family in the days before sun cream all got badly sunburnt playing on the beach! Sad to see Skegness looking so run down now. 😢
Thanks for sharing this, Stephen - I can't say I've ever been there. The amount of green space and space generally, when compared to Blackpool is indeed very striking - and thinking it through, wouldn't the Middle Walk make a lovely garden - perhaps with a six-foot wall replacing the fence on the seaward side...? That could be just what it needs to revitalise the crumbling architecture and restore something of what it was originally intended for... Skeggy is obviously a much younger town, evidenced by the wide streets, but with good p[lanning, it's amazing to see what can be done.
Brilliant video Stephen. We enjoyed our time in Skegness and ingoldmels this last week. When we went into town most places on the front were closed. I was disappointed as the pirate fish and chips place was closed. We did go into town and round the many bargain shops haha. Also went the aquarium which was very.impressive.
I’ve never been to Skegness before tbh Steve it doesn’t look to bad… that pub at the end the ship & Atlantic looked epic ((bet your glad they were refurbing the Wetherspoons now)) 👍
Two very interesting videos about Skegness, Steve, thank you. There is always something I learn from your videos. I didn't know Skegness was on the Wash coastline. The Church in the roundabout is lovely, so is the clock tower. The pier reminds me of a bigger version of St Anne's Pier. You're probably right, it might have been bigger years ago. St Anne's Pier had a lovely theatre but unfortunately it burnt down. Blackpool have lovely parks and green areas but unfortunately 99.9% of visitors to Blackpool, myself included for years, don't get to see them because we, only stay around the Golden Mile, I have since discovered Bispham Station the highest point on the Fylde Coast, my favourite place in Blackpool, especially when the Lake District mountains are in view. Only been to Skegness once, yes, the wind farm is much closer, but it have some beautiful beaches. Even though I have been to Skegness, I have seen more of it in your videos Steve. Xxx
Great vlog of a Skegness at a grey time of the year we normally get vlogs when it's had TLC and has a bit of colour and in full flow, It's a shame about the derelict buildings but it's like everywhere they've gone past there used date and unfortunately like a lot of councils they won't remove them because of "costs" but I bet they can find money to waste on stupid projects, The derelict buildings could be in an area where people don't go because there's nothing to do and unfortunately people have lost the art of doing nothing and people watch. PS. day out from Blackpool by train is 2 stops and 5.5 hrs so when you get there it's time to go home.
The pier was built much longer than it is today and used to have a theatre on the end of the pier which was popular with venues and live performances of the tidal surge and high winds that washed away the pier and only half of the length of the pier remains. It was in the mid nineties when it was destroyed by extreme weather conditions
Brilliant video of my local seaside town, you should pop back in the summer months when all of the gardens are full of flowers, come when the Carnival is on & the place is mega busy, they have been awarded lots of funding and various things in the pipeline, again hopefully see you soon Stephen.
Hi Stephen ,thank you for a fantastic video.being from Wakefield, the east coast was our preferred choice for holidays.i had many happy holidays in skeggy when I was a child & has always been my favourite seaside resort to visit throughout the years..even though things may have changed abit over the years it still essentially the same as from my childhood..we mainly stayed on Scarborough avenue so was so happy for you to feature it..thank you again for a lovely video.colin..
Very nice skeggy walkabout . A lot of trees and bushes and art decco love all the arcades and bingo and yes the train station is so close to the town thanks 4 sharing
Hi Stephen. This video is fantastic. Very interesting some lovely houses and the church looks great. also all the parks. So much green. Thank you very much for sharing this. I really enjoyed watching it 👍🥰❤️
I used to go to Skeggy with my mum and Nan as a child at Butlins, we stayed there for the Royal Wedding in 1981. When I was older we used to take the kids over and stay at South view which is massive. Good cheap fun fair at Ingoldmells and monster truck racing. Skegness high street had my sons favourite shop which sold BB and spud guns , knives etc …. Last time we went there was 1 horse and cart going up and down the prom the poor thing looked knackered. Mablethorpe is nice too and has the other seal sanctuary I used to visit there as a kid then took my own kids when they were younger. Blackpool used to have the lovely Italian sunken gardens but the concreted over them, there’s the grass areas left at star gate end but they’ve basically let the town to go to rack and ruin , destroyed most of the Victorian structured gardens and don’t really care about uslocals as long as we pay our Clowncil tax. The East coast is pleasant for both locals and tourists with its greenery and garden areas, but without a change in Clowncil we won’t get any change here in Blackpool.
great video stephen only 1 hour from me too mate brill video should of gone up to ingoldmells very popular place and some great pubs around skeg and a few good cafes in the high street which you missed too mate :)
Great video Stephen. Been in Skegness a few times when we took the kids to Mablethorpe. Magic memories. However never liked it as much as Blackpool. Glad you’re back now😂👍
If Billy thought Aberdeen was cold, he should have gone to Peterhead. It is so cold they gave it the name of "Blue Toon". Mind you, get a nice day, and it can be a good place to get some chips and park looking over the bay. With the sun shining and no wind, looking out to the bay and over both harbours, it is very nice eating your chips. However, if it is rain or wind, worse, both, it is horrible!
Skeggy was being cleaned-up in the late 1990's/early 2000's and I noticed how it looked so much better than Blackpool. The old stinking toilet blocks had been replaced with new ones, the Tower Esplanade area revamped and everything repainted, looking new and fresh. Only thing is now - as with Ingoldmells 4 miles further along the coast - we seem to have OVERKILL with the amusements/chip bars, with every available space taken. Having music and voices blasting in my ears on the street is a surefire way to make me AVOID going. What the hell is wrong with everyone today?
Perhaps nip along to Ingoldmells while you are over there? That was just right back in 1976, but is OVERKILL today. Amusement arcades, Copper Kettle cafe and petrol cars and carts, plus miniature railway on the sea front.
I'm from east midland now live blackpool always gone skeggy closer to where im from from lovely memories yes its smaller but so much to see they had sones near boating lake like little caves u can sit there beautiful not sure if it still there I lastxwent some years ago the shalleys in full swing my aunty uncle used to stay in them x
Hi 👋 Steven i remember going to Skegness when I was a kid it was really good the shop look good put Steven you can't beat Blackpool all the shops are all around you you don't go far Blackpool is amazing I can't wait for the next video ❤️👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Used to go on holiday with the kids back in the day Skegness was ideal back then. But although it’s winter with not much open It did look like it’s a bit run down now. Looks like the local council have letting things slide. Brilliant vlog as ever Steve 😊
Good Evening Steve. Many a Happy Seaside visit i used to go and do with my Parents and then when i was older on my own. Skeggy, is very Famous for it's Jolly Happy Life Boatman skipping along the Beach. Some really Good Fish & Chip Take aways and Restuarants. What a Lovely movie you Produced Steve. The very Famous Butlins Holiday Park is here. One of my Favourite Childhood Seaside resorts. Hope you have a Good time in Skeggy Steve.
Way back I. The 60s the ship pub was where the motorbike enthusiasts used to hang out, and further in Skeg was the beachcomer that’s where the mods would hang out, that’s about the last time I was in Skeg as a teenagers
I've been to Skegness quite a few times, but Cleethorpes is nearer to where I live. Also Bridlington for day trips. However, we like to get over to Blackpool quite often as the nightlife is better, if we are staying for a few nights.
I remember going to Skeggy when i was very young and we stayed in a hotel and I remember seeing elephants. Must have been a circus. Were on the beach.playing in the sea. I shook a trunk. So beautiful
Hello Stephen, yes Skegness pier was once bigger, and I believe it was a bit longer if my memory serves correct.I remember going to the pier many years ago to see Ken Dodd there,I seem to remember we walked a fair distance to get to the pavillion on the end,it was damaged in a winter storm and had to be shortened, they should have reinstated it back to it's proper length.I always enjoy a visit to Scarborough, you should do a video of there sometime, lots of lovely gardens and cliffs and the little railway, plus of course the castle and the harbour. Thanks Stephen, always enjoy your vids of Blackpool and the surrounding area .👌👌😊😊

Did you go to the stock car stadium, I generally go about twice a year for the Brisca f1 stock cars
That was great...with one omission....the iconic Jolly Fisherman statue.
Yes spot on forgot about him 👍👍 wasn’t there a Butlins in Skeggie?

I was there over Christmas lovely 👍
Great 👍
Brilliant video of my local seaside town, you should pop back in the summer months when all of the gardens are full of flowers, come when the Carnival is on & the place is mega busy, they have been awarded lots of funding and various things in the pipeline, again hopefully see you soon Stephen.
I visited a few times but I've not been for the best part of 50 years i hope you enjoyed yourself stay Safe

thanks Stephen for another great video
Stephen It's been 5 years since my wife and I were there It was nice to see the Garden's and the North sea Go back in summer it's Lovely
That little street with costas on the corner is called “Chip Alley”.
great video stephen only 1 hour from me too mate brill video should of gone up to ingoldmells very popular place and some great pubs around skeg and a few good cafes in the high street which you missed too mate :)
Great video Stephen
Great video Stephen. Been in Skegness a few times when we took the kids to Mablethorpe. Magic memories. However never liked it as much as Blackpool. Glad you’re back now😂👍
Great video. Blackpool and Skegness my two favourite seaside resorts. Back in Skeggy in February and Blackpool in April!
Great video, i really enjoyed it, thank you
Glad you enjoyed it
Your camera is fantastic for what your doing, brilliant detail.
Love your videos
Great video Steven
If Billy thought Aberdeen was cold, he should have gone to Peterhead. It is so cold they gave it the name of "Blue Toon". Mind you, get a nice day, and it can be a good place to get some chips and park looking over the bay. With the sun shining and no wind, looking out to the bay and over both harbours, it is very nice eating your chips. However, if it is rain or wind, worse, both, it is horrible!
There are boats that go down that little river in summer
Used to live in chapel-st-leonards for about 7yrs, lovely countryside ,but not a lot going on, only the pubs, & clubs.
Very interesting tour round Skegness, never been, doesn't look like a bad sort of place really! Thanks Stephen!
Ahahaha Stephen you still mentioned Blackpool even in Skegness😂 you are such a Legend❤
I enjoyed that tour of Skegness Stephen 👍
Many thanks for sharing 🙏
Glad you enjoyed it
Stephen, if you want to see a lot of trees, come visit us in Oregon.
I’ve been to Washington State.

Used to go on holiday with the kids back in the day Skegness was ideal back then. But although it’s winter with not much open It did look like it’s a bit run down now. Looks like the local council have letting things slide. Brilliant vlog as ever Steve 😊
Glad you enjoyed it Stephen
I been to Skegness when I was little with my parents I love it very year ❤❤
Good video looks a good place to visit
The Skeggy pier was demolished in a winter storm years ago and the council wouldn’t repair it
Very comprehensive and fair video on Skeggie well done
Thanks.
Great Video Steve I Enjoyed It Thanks For Posting Great Place How About Going To Weston Super Mare Next😊😊😊
It didn't kick off either😂. Great vlog as always. 👍👏
