Coming from Burton-on-Trent I know the story that a Bass employee waited overnight outside the Trade Mark office to make sure they got Number 1 and 2 on the register. When I moved to Blackpool I went many times to the Saddle.
My grandpa had a 'gentlemans outfitters' shop on the parade of shops between Gainsborough Road and Palatine Road 21 minutes into your video from 1947 until the mid 1970s and my dad lived above the shop for a few years. You walked right past it, nice one. I remember going there a few times myself as a youngster. Sadly we don't have a photo of the shop front from that time, but nice to see its all still there and not looking too bad.
That was a very informative video Stephen and the property and shops in that area looked really nice. You must be super fit doing al that walking. Well done.
Guards Club is/was an ex-servicemen's club, primarily for ex-members of the 7 Guards Regiments. Used to spend time in there with my Grandfather (who was an ex-Coldstreamer). I think it's open to all ex-servicemen now.
Some lovely buildings and houses on White gate drive, would cost a pretty penny, you can't get Central drive out of your mind,no matter where you go Stephen lol

You can see our Staff Canteen at timestamp 5:36. After 14 years, you'd think that Tesco would change the odd ready meal or sandwich. 😵💫😪 I was also in the Belle Vue the night the Berlin Wall came down. I'll never forget that moment in history.
Great Walk down memory lane Thank you. I lived in gorse Rd just off whitegate drive before moving to Australia 35 years ago and it hasn't changed much. My dad loved going to the guard's club 😅 very smoky in the Day 🚬🍻👍

I lived at the Whitegate end of Leeds Road. A beautiful house. I remember the private shop, had to walk past it every day 😂 I'm pretty sure it was the last shop with the yellow car in front of it. I remember the Whitegate cottages being open, they were only toilets until early 2000s. They were also mostly locked, probably something to do with their name haha!
That was a great walkthrough! I only lived in Blackpool for about 3 - 4 years growing up, but this was such a memory blast! We lived just off Whitegate Drive where the church was - I believe. It was called Raikes Parade. And yes, I remember the public loo’s 😂. I went to St Kentigerns primary, then St Anne’s. Have you done a walk around some of the school areas?

Rowan Vets used to be the NatWest bank, excellent independent vets by the way, I take my pets there. St Paul’s church always has a waiting list for weddings it’s so popular. The house just before the detached one for sale is a relatives and it’s really nice inside if anyone interested. 😂 I remember the girls school my Grandad wanted to pay for me to either go there or Greenlands back in 1981 but I didn’t want to go, I went to Highfield instead, there’s also houses at the back of the flats in the old recreation grounds. The Whitegate Manor is where they held the adult Adhd clinics as well as other services, the Daily Living centre which has a fab cafe inside, they make bird houses, paintings to sell etc. I was born in Glenroyd maternity hospital , one of the last born before it moved to Victoria Hospital which is now the Surgery. I remember Kwik save there but I used to use the one down South Shore or the back St David’s rd one in St Anne’s ( they had 2). I saw my Dad go past you when you were near the old blockbusters in his car, he remembers the trams down Whitegate Drive as well as the steam train along Yeadon Way , South and Central Stations…he went to Waterloo as well. The big old house on the corner was like a mansion with big double wooden doors , very high brick walls all the way round except the lynch gate, an old friends family were friendly with the original owners and apparently they used to hold big swanky parties there. When it became empty there was a reason it went to ruin but I cannot remember what it was now 🤔 The convenience store opposite the old post office is the new post office and it’s the late post office that stays open until 10pm ( or did) I bought something off a lady on Leamington Rd and those houses are massive inside , I’ve used the toilets as you go round the corner when I was younger. You got a mention in the comments on Talk TV’s piece about Blackpool and a shout out for the channel 👍🏻
8:40 - Whitegate Manor - This placed used to be called "The Speedwell Center" and was a school for children with learning difficulties and teenage pregnancies. It was also for those that were very often absent from school. I know this because I attended there and it was home to some of the best education I received during that age. This was in 2012-2015. Absolutely fantastic place and I often wonder what happened to the teachers there as they were all fantastic.
If I ever had to come home, I think the south end of Whitegate Drive would be a good spot (I'm South Shore originally). The Saddle - a few side streets with nice little terrace houses that I quite like the look of, easy to get to town, the park, trees, shops - a decent part of Blackpool. The north end of the Drive has maybe suffered a bit more - but as you say there hasn't been a Lytham Road / Central Drive style sink into the abyss in the past 20 years. It still looks like it did back in the early 90s more or less.
The naughty shop was just called PRIVATE SHOP I think and I think it was one or two doors down from where you indicated but not sure. As well as Elmslie, I remember Park School for children with learning difficulties was nearby.

I think 157 with the Lychgate was just a big house in its day before it was knocked down looking at old maps so no history apart from now with the planning permissions for affordable housing, what do you call affordable housing, bet there be a few flash cars parked there. 🤭😂🤣
