Hi Stephen, me and the wife watch your videos regularly and on 9 minutes and 32 seconds in this video you stood in the exact spot that we scattered my dad’s ashes. I haven’t had chance to visit there for 12 months so thank you for this video it was nice to see it so up close ❤
Great views and magical atmosphere, have been to Whitby, best fish and chips, also a couple of years back Coldplay did a gig ,near the abbey, check it out !. thanks
Lots of lovely little quaint shops and streets, would love to visit Whitby but the hills would kill me LOL. Thanks for another informative video Stephen,we call them crab/lobster pots up here.
What an excellent video! Unsurprisingly, as they're all East Coast fishing ports, I felt like I was in Eyemouth during your opening shots, and much of the town centre feels like the streets around the harbour at Berwick-upon-Tweed! I don't often feel the urge to visit places based upon what I've seen in films - but I'm absolutely sold on this place - let me sort out my mobility scooter issues, and I'll be there!!
Whitby Jet is famous. Its fossilised wood! They make jewelry out of it. Was used as a type of mourning jewelry. Also the seafood is yummy. I'm not a pie eater but a Scotch Egg with fresh-made English Mustard is my choice. Never buy a jar, get the powder and make the amount you want fresh! Its also cheaper and lasts longer (the powder) What lovely kids! What a beeoootiful blue sky! I hope they keep a Cardiac Arrest gizmo at the top of those steps! Thank you Stephen!
Awesome video Stephen really love Whitby ..you've done a great job showing all the fine points of the harbour and the town in general. PS I'd back Whitby's seaguls against Blackpools any day....lol
You should have gone in the church near the abbey ,it's absolutely unbelievable inside . Great video and Whitby will always be my fav place ,Blackpool apart.
Hello Steve are you well thank you very much for your fantastic vidio of Whitby you will love it and want to go back its my favourite place best wishes take care stay safe and warm xx❤😅😅😊
Thanks for a great video stephen, I absolutely love whitby and the Abbey is pretty awesome, went many years ago, remember eating fish and chips facing the harbour, remembered walking around all the narrow streets and buying whitby jet earrings and necklace brought back great memories of being there, 😊😊
Had a fab weekend away sea fishing with friends in Whitby back in the 90's. Nice to see the Angel Hotel is still going, they looked after us really well. Lovely staff back then.
Whale bones at 14:28 to the left. Great view from up there! If you time it correctly you can walk all the way on to Sandsend and back too. Charming little village.
I spend a lot of time in Whitby during the summer as it is just down the road from Me. I fell in love with Whitby when My late parents used to take me and My Sister there when we were children plus I am a big Gothic horror fan too with of Whitby being partly the setting in Stokers Gothic Horror novel Dracula, Stoker stayed at a guest house on Royal Crescent Whitby, I do recall it was no 6 Royal Crescent although I could be wrong, he also spent a lot of time in the public Library and this is where he found a book about the principality of Walachia and in that book there was the mention of a certain Vlad Dracul. Yep I love Whitby, friendly people and Fish and Chips to die for from The Magpie Cafe. You should check out some of Frank Meadow Sutcliffes photos online Ste, some fantastic photos of everyday folk of Whitby back in the Victorian days you would love them.
What another fantastic vlog that you have recorded. I absolutely love Whitby, It was so kind of you to stop and speak to the children who were doing a survey, a lot of people nowadays just march straight past and ignore them. I heard the child's tone excitedly change when you told her that you were a You-Tuber. Also thanks for allowing us to read about how jet is formed and about the history of the abbey.
Dear Stephen I think the things you are calling old lamp posts are capstans used for hauling in the old sailing ships. Normally seen today on the decks of ships such as car ferries, they just use to loop a rope around them and the pier hands would put spars into the square holes and turn them hauling in the rope and the ship.
Hi Stephen glad you enjoyed your visit to the east coast Whitby in particular being an historian not just Blackpool but in general you seem to really appreciate it hope you come back maybe with the macmaster lol
Hi Stephen, Whitby looks amazing, will definitely visit it one day , Stephen you should check out Lindisfarne Holy Island you would love that area in the North East Northumberland it's beautiful.
Hi Stephen, I just wanted to say this was a great video showing all the good and interesting aspects of Whitby, it was a pleasure to watch. Thank you so much, we have been to Whitby many times and it never loses its olde worlde charm. Xxxx
31:44 yep, al 199 of them! World famous! Easier coming down than going up! If you get the chance stop for a breather at the church half way up. Its an amazing church.
I adore Whitby. I've been visiting for over 40 years. I'll never tire of this beautiful, historic, fishing harbour & town. Not forgetting the surrounding areas too. 😊
Thanks Stephen for another brilliant video, Whitby is a lovely place, full of history and character. The walk to the Abbey looks a fair distance away. Amazing work 😀
What a lovely walk round, not been for 20 years, think I’ll have to visit again, especially out of season as summer is way to busy Thanks for doing a grand job😎
One of the graves at the top of the steps has the name Swales on which was the name of Draculas first victim. Lovely video, glad you enjoyed your time here ❤
Good to see you exploring more or your own country. Whitby is a gem It’s challenging to climb all those steps and inclines. Being a You Tuber is more difficult than most would imagine and you have with experience excelled.
Hi Stephen thank you for another great video as always what an amazing place that is lots of historic buildings absolutely beautiful some fantastic looking chippy too have a great evening xx
I’ve been to Whitby many times but wouldn’t go again at the height of the summer Season. I think everyone visiting had the same idea. Come 11am the streets were terribly crowded.
Beautiful Whitby there called lobster pots Stephen ..there’s loads of nooks and crannies in Whitby little gennels that leads to the beach or cottages .. I’ve been waiting for this video thank you 🙏🏻
Lovely... Pity about all the zombie bobblehats. It's like watching 'Day of the Triffids, but swap killer plants for his and hers matching Millets Cagoules.
OMG…I would go crazy in Whitby with all those shops! I love to window shop and I would need a week in town just to see everything. Thank you for a lovely visit, Stephen 😊
You captured some fabulous views of the sky, sea, the town and coastline. You were lucky getting a sunny day to visit, as we have had so much rain in the North East recently. Enjoyed watching your walk around Whitby. Hope you enjoyed your pie and cakes from Bothams 😊
Thank you for an interesting video Stephen, it's a lovely place and I'm glad you are going back in the summer. Some of the buildings are beautiful and the old fashioned shops remind you of times gone by. Loved the stunning views and the sound of the sea. 😊😊😊
Hi Stephen. Thank you very much for your great video from Whitby. I’ve been there a few times. It’s a lovely place. Weather looks gorgeous lovely blue sky 😎❤️👍
Really enjoyed these videos on the east coast I’ve had some lovely holidays that way. I’ve visited Whitby and Robins hood bay but never had the chance to look round the shops on the Abby side so thank you for your tour around them. Another lovely place to visit in Northumbria and Holy Island it’s beautiful around there.
Hi Stephen. To me a very interesting video. I come from Middlesbrough and we holidayed all my childhood years at Whitby.n Interesting to see things that did not exist 70 years ago in Whitby, like the jet museum in what was the Methodist chapel. I admire your vigour, you covered in the space of a day the different parts of Whitby. For me it would be one day on the old side, another on the pier, another in the town and a fourth on the West Cliff. I lived and worked the end of my life in New Brunswick Canada and am now in a care home over here. Paul Stockill
I’m glad you finally got to Whitby and have enjoyed looking around. The things on the pier that you questioned are capstans . They were used to haul sailing ships in and out of the harbour so they could catch the wind and raise their sails.
Bravo Stephen for an outstanding video of Whitby! That was so enjoyable and the screenshots were amazing. Thank you taking us along and as always take care and stay safe.
I lived and worked in Eastbourne years ago Stephen check out beachy head lighthouse and the town and South downs very good place nice and clean south coast there anyway
8.53 - not old lamp-posts, they were windlasses, or winches from before engines. the rectangular holes had poles inserted, then a rope was looped round the column, and men walked round and round pushing the poles, to wind the rope in. - - -
.Great video Stephen. Like yourself I had no idea what the place looked liked, so thanks for that. But I tell you one thing boy, given I don't live in the UK anymore, I could have bitten your hand off when you flashed the pork pie.
Hi stephen ,whe you were next captain cooks statue the whitby whale bone was next to you .this is a perfect photo frame for looking at tha abbey .great video
Welcome to our town! Well done for having a wonder and not just making another fish and chips video, as so many have done in the past. Had you picked up on the swing bridge/Blackpool Tower connection before visiting?
Nice long vlog today from Whitby a delightful little seaside town. You enjoyed a nice walk around there Stephen quaint streets, shops and cafes. That bakery place looked to die for, pies, pastries and cakes. I too have a sweet tooth. Weather looked awesome lots of sunshine but like you said at the end of the pier, bitter cold. Keep warm Stephen these cold days and nights of February.
Welcome to my neck of the woods. Glad you liked it 👌 when yoh go back I'll give you some tips you need to visit the villages of Staithes, Robin Hoods Bay & go up into the Yorkshire Dale's to visit the village of Goathland ( the home of the TV show Heartbeat 👍 now the accent is interesting because if you met me you would automatically assume I was a Geordie but I'm not. Being from the south of County Durham. I actually live only 9 miles from the North Yorkshire border, so I do have a bit of a Yorkshire twang ( but you'd only notice that if you were well versed to the differences to the accents in the Northeast 👍👌
I call those baskets Lobster Pots. Whitby Abbey 's foundation goes way back to Anglo/Saxon days. Hilde of Whitby held a Synod in 664 at which the church had to decide on which date to hold Easter. They chose the Roman date rather than the Irish one. Great firm very interesting but not many folk about.
Looks lovely Stephen great video mate, I will be having a visit there this summer it’s takes about 3.30 hours from cleveleys …. Deffo book a b&b and have a good look around, from watching this video looks amazing…
You missed the Whale Bones!!! You were sat in front of them on video at 15:10 by the James Cook statue (that was over one shoulder, whale bones over the other!!), great weather for Jan!
Whitby has been visited by the chatter guys and Grimm life collective , great seaside town , plenty of history , Captain cooks ship was called endeavour which was inspector Morse's middle name
Hi Stephen, I’m going to Whitby for a 12 day holiday end of June, might see you there. I haven’t been since I went there for a week school holiday since I was at Middle School.
15:29 Ive always wanted to stay at that hotel on the corner of that terrace! (The Royal) I went to Whitby once staying at a B&B just to the left of that terrace, East Terrace. And l recall going from up there, down onto the quay, via those steps and slope you came up, which if im not mistaken is actually called Khyber Pass, along the harbour, across the swing bridge, to a restaurant just opposite the building on stilts thats called the town hall. But the only difference from your visit we did this walk at night in the most ferocious arctic blizzard of a snowstorm. After our meal, the snow was almost a foot thick! And l thought it rarely snowed by the sea!
Absolutely fantastic vlog, lovely place lots of history and the quaint streets and shops lovely to walk round, Fab shots from the pier, loved the abbey too and you ought to go inside the church next time, its beautiful, only problem with whitby in the summer it gets packed and we found not many places to sit and chill,it was a scorching hot day too. Look forward to your next vlog when you go back, loved it thanks 👍 x
Loved this Stephen what a great tour guide you are 👍 I’ve been to Whitby twice and it’s gorgeous and I’ve climbed all those steps to the Abby😮💨 😅😂 but you showed different areas I have not seen and the beach 🏖️ we definitely have to go back 😁 great job and love that you’re touring around and taking us with you 👍take care and until next time Pauline from Blackpool living in Canada 🍁
You were sat up near the Cook statue but didn’t appear to see the whale bones behind you. Did you see the place where Bram Stoker stayed when in Whitby (there is a blue plaque some where near where you parked your van). 199 steps up to the Abbey and there are plates every so oft telling you how many you have done. Just think they used to carry coffins up there to the churchyard.
Brilliant visual and educational video old fellow 👌 quality!!! Loved the Abbey bit when your counting, 1 aha 2 aha, was that from sesame Street and the Count adding up. Also witby brewery next to Abbey, wonder if they sell Bloody Mary's 🤔 Loved this, the whole thing was none stop quality. Mint 🫡
Me & my son have been to Whitby twice a few years ago, went looking around the Abbey at top of them 199 steps & on beach plus few other places you've been to in this video. It happened to be a Goth weekend one time visiting, went on a pirate ship tour boat which takes you a bit out into the sea (my parents suggestion as they've done it before).
We drove past you on Friday as you were filming on the opposite side of the road to bothams bakery! I said to the Mrs that it was you and I watch your videos. We drove around the block so I could speak to you but you had disappeared. I've just watched your whitby video to see if you caught us on film driving past but you didn't! Anyway keep doing what your doing buddy👍
Hi Stephen, me and the wife watch your videos regularly and on 9 minutes and 32 seconds in this video you stood in the exact spot that we scattered my dad’s ashes. I haven’t had chance to visit there for 12 months so thank you for this video it was nice to see it so up close ❤
Me and Stephen watch you and your wife all the time. You need to close you blinds when you... Well you know....
I'm a Yorkshire lass and i absolutely love Whitby its so quirky and full of history and character
Great views and magical atmosphere, have been to Whitby, best fish and chips, also a couple of years back Coldplay did a gig ,near the abbey, check it out !. thanks
Love the place from the midlands❤
The only fossil you will find on Blackpool beach will be on a deck chair!
Fantastic photo of the rainbow over the Tower in Feb 24 calendar.
Good video Stephen. Not been to Whitby for years. Thanks for showing 👍🏻😀☀️

Good stuff though👍
Next time!
Great video Stephen 👍 I'd call those things lobster pots 😉
16:47, if your visiting, check out the Sutcliffe Gallery. Some amazing olfactory photographs of very old Whitby
I must have hid down that alley to show what I bought lol
