Also the public blame on Netanyahu for not getting hostages release plays into the Hamas strategy…I’ve been trying to tell the poor hostage families that their messaging needs to be directed at Hamas “let them go” or “Hamas- let my people go” etc, which would catch on more internationally, because some people don’t feel comfortable protesting the Israeli government in this awful war time of distress, when they are fighting so much. Everyone would feel good screaming about the villain Hamas to let them go. It would help drive international pressure towards the real bad guys, Hamas, and would give Israel better leverage in negotiations. At the end of the day, only Hamas can decide to release the hostages…israel can negotiate with them but they can’t force them diplomatically at the end of the day. If any of you know hostage families - don’t follow the US lead! Ex CIA in the US have said the US will spend 25 years negotiating to get Americans home, and will never go in militarily or do what it takes to save their people. Also leaders should publicly call on “innocent” gazans to give information to Israel about hostage whereabouts. If they want peace and are innocent, and don’t want war, they will help. If they want to be seen as innocent they need to do right thing, as would be expected if the Israelis.

Imagine a world where individuals are condemned simply because they love differently, all because people prefer to follow centuries-old texts rather than respect human rights.
If ignorance and the refusal to criticize perpetuate injustices and oppress free thought, can we really defend human rights and freedom by accepting Islam or any other ideology based on ancient and immutable texts without question?
We have said yes, let us accept without any judgment what we have fought so hard against. We ignore or forget without any doubt that if there are atheists in democratic countries, it is due to a long series of battles (the history we trample). Battles that have never been fought on other continents, which still today condemn having an opinion on a religion.
If a society accepts ideologies that promote discriminatory or oppressive practices without criticism, it goes against the fundamental values of secularism. For example, accepting doctrines that condemn individuals for their sexual orientation or justify gender inequalities, under the pretext of religious neutrality, compromises the protection of human rights. Ignorance and the refusal to criticize ancient texts and practices can perpetuate injustices and oppress free thought.
Secularism has been built through historical struggles to separate religious influence from the state and protect freedom of thought.
