Pretty slick using the Picrite to spread the bedding in the Heifer barn. One trip instead of a bunch of skid-steer runs, and nice and fluffy. The fans really seem to make a bid difference on keeping the bedding dry,
There is so much here. Your father is away for a week. No matter, you just carry on, working very hard, doing whatever needs to be done and doing it very well. You care for the animals and you can see that they are contented cows. Good on you, Eric. Appreciate all the extra work you do to make the videos interesting and instructive. God's peace be with you and yours.
Eric, Thank You for explaining your operation to us ! It is good that everyone understands just what goes into a dairy all you keep track of and the amount of work/care that is involved ! I think most of us can see it is a labor of Love !!! It shows !!! GOD BLESS !!!
Great video Eric! Appreciate the explanation of the dry cow process. Nice to see the cow happy to get in the pasture. Fans are doing a nice job of cooling and drying. Enjoyed the video. Well done!
@@phyllishalley8972 Are you a cow that's being forced to dry out and then getting your teats plugged shut so no overflow milk can escape, even in a desperate, painful mode ?
@10th Generation Dairyman My wife and I recently found your channel. We were looking for something new to watch, so we've been "binging" the playlist, starting from the oldest to newest. Just wanted to say we've enjoyed them so far and appreciate your work ethic, your open display of your faith, and for reminding us of all of us the hard work that's behind the day-to-day items we take for granted. Thanks for doing these!
Of all the farm channels I follow across Canada and the US you are about the only ones that haven’t been affected by some violent storms or drought conditions. Looks like you are having a banner year. This video had a variety of content Thank You for sharing it with us.
Great video Eric ! It’s good to see the fan’s our working to keep cow’s cool . Thank’s for the info on how you dry cow’s process . We usually have a vet to come out and do our cow’s . Here in Indiana have been in a drought for quit sometime had so beautiful showers but need more.
Plutus was the ancient Greek god of wealth. He was shown as a baby in the arms of the goddess of good fortune or peace. He was also holding a horn of plenty. You made me think of him with your video. Everyone should watch your video to learn about what it takes to get our milk to our tables. I love milk. I drink about a gallon of milk every three days. Thanks for these great videos. - Theodore A. You’re a great & dependable young man Eric. Your dad can leave for a week & not have to worry knowing all is being looked after & in good hands. Like your educational videos. Good Job
I enjoy the reminder of regular maintenance necessary to keep equipment running smoothly. That being said, have you ever shown what is required for the feed wagon? Keep up the great work!
Like seeing your cows and heifers, you can see they are treated well, good job. I would love to have that skid loader, mine is broken down and old, kinda like me.😄 Thanks for sharing, have a great weekend.
I'm curious to know how the nitrogen shortage and fertilizer shortages affects your operations? I love your channel! The respect you show your animals shows your character and a great family dynamic. Thank you for sharing your life.
Is there a shortage in America too? We had a slight shortage in Europe but we have different trade laws with Russia. What's affecting us is the price of it. It peaked at almost 300% the price of previous years.
@@billabong9215 Yes, it is not really a shortage at least in my state, it's the prices that have shot way up. We can get everything, but prices are still crazy high.
Hi Eric, just wanted to say how much I enjoy your videos. The subject matter would be interesting enough on its own, but you take it a step further with excellent videography and editing. Just really great quality entertainment, and education! Thank you!
Great idea reusing the bedding. We also made a mound on our concrete heifer lot for them to lay on. It’s a good way to dilute the sawdust so it doesn’t take up so much nitrogen fertilizer.
I love your videos. I'm not a farmer but am very interested in your profession and you have some of the best agriculture content on yt. I don't tend to Like most vlog style content but yours stands out from the rest.
Eric -Just curious, is the wheat field you spread the manure in owned by the farmer you borrow equipment from? If it is, I think its great how you have that neighbors helping neighbors mentality to get the work done. 👍
He said in another recent video that when he uses the term neighbor he really means he has many neighbors that he borrows from/helps out, it's not always the same neighbor
Glad you’re getting some rain. We’re dry as a bone in Alabama. Hay’s going to be a bit harder to come by this year if it doesn’t start to seriously rain soon ! Great video ! Thanks for all your efforts !
Best wishes For Eric and his family. Many governments around the world are limiting nitrogen in the soil by farmers. Leading to low yields and possible hunger or worse. Please support our farmers who love their lands and know best how to balance human needs vs the planet. For example Eric teaches us regularly how they research good farming techniques like NO TILL and just today less antibiotics. God Speed your journey young man PEACE
Non-farmer here...How many acres are supporting how many cows? An operation ten times bigger, would it require ten times the amount of land? Love your channel!
Hey Eric, I have 2 questions. When you're ready for them to milk again how do you get the sealant out? Do you give them something to stop them from producing milk as well as the sealant?
That is impressive Would you please explain the feed contents ratio, and is it the same ratio for all meals and also what is different ratios for different ages? Many thanks
Hey Eric, have you ever gotten an injury handling the cows? I imagine with them weighing so much if they got a spook or did something unexpected it could lead to a serious injury. What are some of the precautions you take to make sure it doesnt happen ?
Eric, do you keep separate equipment (skid steerers, tractors) for handling manure and handling feed? Or do you clean them between jobs to prevent contamination?

You know what I like about you Eric you are a thoughtful dairyman. You said I don't like the cows to stand and that's why I watch your channel.
Hey Eric, is it just you and your dad that mixes feed for the farm?
Less stress for cow more milk production. Cows like to lay down.
He doesn't care about the cow, he just cares about the profit
@@realemonful he must care for cows for the effort he makes to make them comfortable and less stress to make more milk.

I hope your dad (parents) are on a well deserved vacation. Looking forward to a new Q&A with you and your dad.

Hello Fellow wisconsinknight
Recycling at its best! The dry pack is so effective, look how it flies like powder, when being spread . Thanks Eric.

Whether you are bedding with straw, sawdust or fodder, running it through the spreader is a great way to make the most of the bedding.

How is the plug removed? Excellent video and job Eric! Thanks
Letting the cows walk down after drying up must be such a nice treat for them to be ushered 1 on 1 like a dog lol
You should spread the new bedding with rhe manure spreader. Just fill it up back in and spread. Does a nice even layer.
Love the farm we just got out of dairy and switched to crops
Where's your farm??

How are the Montbéliarde cross heifers? Thanks for the video. I know you are busy with your dad away.
Hey Eric, was wondering how the dry up sealant gets removed, when the cow is ready to be milked again after the next calf?
If I was as happy as your cows seem, I'd be leading a pretty good life.
Great content 8/8
The Kubota has small front. The bigger back tires. Most skid steers have all four the same size

Eric, do you keep separate equipment (skid steerers, tractors) for handling manure and handling feed? Or do you clean them between jobs to prevent contamination?
Be cool to see you run the rototiller over the pack on the new heifer barn while they’re out most of the day.
Looks like you are going to be needing some new skins on that skid steer shortly😬
Did you get your robot alley scraper working proper again ?
Do you ever use the tiller to turn the ground or the bedding in the heifer barn that you’re doing today
try move the heifers every 3 day and after that let the paddock recover fully, you will get amazing grass and growth as you keep doing this.
I wonder whether you found a new way to spread new bedding using the manure spreader?
Hi Eric, we were just wondering if there is a story behind the old single tree out in the field? Thank you, Shari and Earl Dodge
