  • The iPhone 4S wasn't just killed... it was murdered. It might sound cliche but Apple really did screw it over with the iOS 9 update- so let's talk about that.

Please update you phone's software to download. " I was so annoyed when that came up. Since I am only using it as a white noise generator at night, I decided recently to update it to iOS 9 to see what would happen. Yeah, it is so much slower than it used to be. I'm glad I never did it while I was using it as my main phone. It reminded me of when I updated my 2nd Gen iPod Touch to iOS 4.

I had a 4S and always kept it updated. It ran smoothly - and then I got the iPhone 6S. And then the 4S was slow.
A few years went by and I had forgotten about it. But a poorer friend of mine bought a cheap phone, and as cheap phones do, it broke.
So I whipped out the 4S some day and gave it to him.
A year later, he still uses it. It’s in virtually pristine condition still. The battery is starting to fail, but it is an 8 year old phone after all.
I recently found my mother’s old iPhone 4S. It still runs iOS 7.1.2 and works beautifully - though the battery is starting to die in that one, too. I get it out on occasion for the nostalgia.
In my opinion, it has always been a fantastic device and will always be remembered as a fantastic device.

I waited to update to 8 when the Amazon app stopped working. Then I updated to 9 later on to get the new features. It absolutely destroyed the phone. I used it until 2016!!!! Then when the SE was announced, I preordered it immediately. I’m typing from my SE right now! I still have the 4s, just in its little box on a shelf. It’s better this way.

The iPhone 4s came out during my senior year of high school. I got it as a graduation gift from my family, and the latest version I ever used on it was like 7.0.1 when I bought my 5S. So I never used it pass early versions of iOS 7. That poor for us though. It was really the only phone that I physically damaged. I was at a concert in the summer of 2013, and in the middle of it, since it was an outdoor concert, it began to storm. And as I was running to my cousins car I tripped and fell and the phone flew out of my hand. Interesting fact as well. The 4S was the only model that I ever had stolen also. So I actually had two of them. But the iPhones that I have had were the original, the 3GS, the aforementioned two models of the 4S, the 5S, the 6S plus, and currently I am using an 8+.

  • @drawmaster6343

Got my 4s in 9th grade. Used it all the way until the 6s came out my senior year. Upgraded to that and I’ve been using that ever since until last week when I decided to go for the 11 Pro Max in a 256gb capacity.
When I first got my 4s it was amazing. I’d never had a smartphone like it until then (I had a cheap Motorola flip phone until that point). iOS 5 was good, albeit a tad buggy here and there and Siri lacked a lot with doing things. But for the tasks the commercials advertised, it work perfectly, I’d set alarms, reminders, and calendar events with no issues at all.
When iOS 6 came out (IMO the best version on the 4s) most every complaint I had from the previous iOS was taken care of and addressed in kind. I could now have Siri understand me better as dictation improved, the overall experience got a lot smoother for me and everything was just fluid and all was well.
The years that followed were not so kind, the bugs of 7 and constant crashing I had on 8 only got worse the moment 9 came out. The phone got so slow it wasn’t even funny, it started affecting my ability to even use the phone to make phone calls, it’s primary function as a phone. It was a nightmare. I’m amazingly glad that Apple didn’t make the same mistakes with the 6s and iOS since then. Even right now, my 6s with a new batter is performing just as well on iOS 13 as my 11 is for general use. My only wish is that Apple would just please go and allow me to sign iOS 6 for my 4s so I can use it from time to time without it being a headache and a half.

While on older Samsung Galaxy S phones, you are getting a problem thats the exact opposite of that of the iPhone 4s where the phones weren't getting long enough software support and then you ended up with a phone that still had very powerful hardware for its last software version, but unfortunately you couldn't update them any farther even though the hardware could easily handle newer versions of Android.

The thing I liked the most about the 4 and 4S was the steel frame. It wasn't as shiny as the 12 Pro which is a good thing and it felt great to run the finger on it. Unfortunately the 5 was aluminum again. After I had the 6+ for a while I felt like Apple lost it because iOS 8 was respringing (show Apple logo for a minute and come back) all the time and the hardware felt way less premium than before, I switched to the Blackberry Passport which was so great as a communications device (not media consumption of course, I went to my tablet for that)

I used the iPhone 4s up until 2018 and while it wasn’t too bad it definitely was a bit slow and barely ran any games adequately. I upgraded to a used iPhone 5s for about a year and a half but then decided to go up to an XR. I only had the fingerprint home button for about a year and a half and I honestly miss is so much :( I wish apple would make a device with the finger print on the back similar to many androids so that screen space isn’t affected. Would be awesome! But back to my main point, the 4s is just so nostalgic for me since I used it from ages 12-16 😢❤️
