The iPhone 3GS is perhaps one of the least memorable iPhones of all time, but not really through any fault of its own. It made everything better and marked the turning point as iPhones became more mainstream- how does it hold up?

Alright guys, it's time to answer the highly debated question:
What is the best classic iOS game? Like for example Temple Run, Angry Birds, Doodle Jump, etc?
Edit- some more good ones: Fruit Ninja, Jetpack Joyride, Talking Tom
Turbo dismount
Edit: crossy road
temple run for sure
91Tech Monopoly
91Tech Doodle Jump and Angry Birds!

The 3GS was my first iphone, great phone but it finally went into permanent boot loop so I got a 4.
Is the iPhone 4 the one u have now?
Jesus Cabral Din’t be ridiculous. I use the 11 Pro.
I remember i used to fix a lot of 3g/3gs that bootlooped
Gary Chapman I figured. I was just making sure lol
@@mozzjones6943 yes I know
I will always remember my 3GS always Temple Run and everyone in Estonia looked at me very weirdly (because everybody used flip phones still), and one time at the bus a man yelled HOW IS HE USING THAT PHONE?!
Umbes 2013. aastani olid sa tatikana tegija, kui sul puutekas taskus oli😂😂
Translation: Up to 2013ish you were a badass when you had a touchscreen while being a kid
Aha basically me but im one of those with the flip phones playing snake.... now in *3d*
Back then a 3.5 inch screen was massive. It was amazing using this thing in the day. Truly nostalgia.
I always mistaken the words “3GS” and “3DS” with each other

I had an iPhone 3gs back in 2012, I lost it while moving to a new house an year ago :( :(
I feel that I lost mine 2 years ago too 😅
You guys have iPhone 3GS

There’s something called find iPhone
I remember when the 3GS released a weeks after I graduated high school. My random favorite game was paper toss haha
This was my first iPhone and it always has a special place in my heart ❤️
The 3GS holds a special place in my heart. This one was my first iPhone. I miss being able to buy an iPhone for $99. 😭
Even though the 3GS was years behind other phones in terms of tech and features, it was still more expensive than almost all.
I miss when budget apple phones weren't $500 even considering inflation
Wasn't 99 dollars, you pay for the phone through expensive phone plan
@@aeris2001 that is what people who cannot afford the phone go about it . Little do they know buying it cash is cheaper long term
@@aeris2001 yes, but the 5c went for 200€ with a prepaid contract (non-simlocked) in 2014. You still were able to put in a T-Mobile sim. The SE2020 costs 330€ now new (still extremely cheap, but there are better options on the market).
My first smartphone ever. I still have it with it's box! I'm currently on a OnePlus 7T Pro
I found one in almost brand new condition, it looks so gorgeous 😍
Cool asf but old asf
I found a brand new iphone 4s that was still in the box with the wrap on the box
one of my best friends gave me a white iPhone 4 in almost perfect condition, but it doesn’t turn on due to water damage🥺
MafiaPlaysYT So did I. It was about 35!dollars plus 2 dollars for shipping on eBay which was very shocking to say the least!
Star RBLX exactly
The iPhone 3GS was my favorite phone and design by far. It was super comfortable to use because it was reminiscent of Apples magic mouse. If they brought this back in a much durable structure and bigger, I would buy it all day long. It looked so good
It’s honestly a very pretty phone. Where most Phones loose their charm as time goes on, Apple makes phones that (design wise) stand the test of times.
I’ve always want to go back to a 3GS, has everything you need. iMessage, Video, 3G cell service is still a thing, and of course, skeuomorphism!
+1 still not a fan of the "flat look". So lifeless.
@@BixbyConsequence I know, I don't like the flat look.
Good because 3GS only has iOS 3 to iOS 6 and iOS 6 is the last 3D iOS 😁
The 3GS and the 4 were at a time in the smartphone world when few had them. Phones were fun back then. Now, they’re commodities at best.
@Seven V Google, OnePlus and now even Samsung offer 3+ years of software support which is how long people keep their phones at most, except for a small portion
You’re not downloading the right apps
I really do miss the novelty of multi touch phones, it was new and so futuristic. I’m glad newer companies like Nothing are making phones that are fun to use, yes it’s a gimmick, but it’s something new and refreshing.
My first iPhone! Such nostalgia Josh, thanks for sharing! I’ve still got mine and yes the plastic near the charging port / dock connector has cracked on mine but it’s a keepsake these days :-)
This phone holds a special place in my heart, as it was the first one to include the Voiceover screen reader, which really opened up a whole new world to me. Before, if you were blind, in order to use a phone, you were limitted to a flip phone, and having people program numbers in to speed dial for you, or getting a smart phone, plus an additional $300 software to load on the phone in order to have it read out the screen. Amazing just how far tech has come, but yeah, the 3gs was special, because Voiceover was available with no additional cost. Back in the day, it still had to be turned on by a sighted person, whereas now we can turn it on right out ofthe box and run through setup ourselves.
the glass on the 3GS was probably the best of any iphone I have ever had. never scratched!
I rocked an iPhone 3Gs for a long time back in the day, my very first smart phone. Jumped off the iOS ship after that and went android up until a few days ago when I bought a mint iPhone XS off a friend and switched to that from a Galaxy Note 9. Very fond memories of playing Resident Evil 4 on my 3Gs!!
Very similar story to me. I went to Android mainly for notifications, push Gmail, access to games emulators, being able to drag music on rather than “syncing”; and a few other things like that. Then Android stayed ahead of the feature curve enough that I stuck with it for 3 more phones after that, over a period of 10 years. Now feature parity is basically there (at least for everything that matters to me) I’ve given iOS a go again, although I still have and still use my most recent Android phone currently as well.
It’s interesting to me how many things are still basically the same as they were in the 3GS. But features like widgets or the app library or picture in picture arguably improve upon Android’s experience, even though they took so long to arrive. Even things like the notification centre, given they’ve copied each other back and forth for so long, have pleasantly surprised me; such as giving you a button to collapse a stack of notifications on both the bottom and top of the list. Whereas on Android, once a stack of notifications is expanded, you either have to do a slightly awkward gesture to close it, or close and reopen the entire notification shade. Plus there’s a much lower maximum limit on how many messages can stack, presumably partially to mitigate the issue I just said, but if you’ve got a lot of messages from somebody you can’t even see the context of their first ones. Whereas with iOS you can see basically every notification they sent.
i wouldnt mind getting an iphone 3gs to put on my shelf, it was mt first smartphone so i have a special place in my heart for it
a re release of 3GS with modern tech and bezelless retina display would be awesome. keep the exterior exactly the same, but with modern internal components and bigger display
I miss cover flow on music that I had on both my 3GS and 4s.
That would be so awesome on the 11 Pro Max. 😎
3GS was my first ever iPhone! I loved it and whenever I see it, it brings me back to the very end of 2009 and all of 2010 which were some good times in my life. I had so much new things going on, and I guess being an iPhone user was one as I've always been on the iPhone side ever since.
Your videos keep getting better! I like the subtle evolution of iPhone education you slipped in there in this one.
I have a relative that used to use the 3GS a few months ago. They wanted to use it because it had some pictures (they didn’t know they could transfer photos) luckily I was able to give them my old se and save their photos. I can only imagine how slow the thing would be.
ive used a 3GS , they arent the best , tbh they are good as like a Note Pad or Reminders , but really they are to slow to do much nowadays
What he said really got me thinking. “ it wouldn’t have lightning for another three years.” That was so long ago, and we still have lighting and not USB-C...
Keep lightning.
Lightning makes apple too much money to let go of xD Why would they switch when they can have other companies pay them a royalty for the chargers they make?
@@9852323 USB C would definitely be better and more durable.
I was 10 years old when my mother got this phone in 2009, and I remember being so amazed by the touchscreen and the games you could play, as that was something I had never seen before. I do not know the name of the games and cannot find them, but games like Fruit Ninja and Temple Run were not out yet. That iPhone felt so special and loved playing with it and owning it in 2011-2012.
Great vid as always 👍
I re-found my old 3GS in a drawer the other day and got flooded with nostalgia. This was a superb device back in the day.
I'm running a Galaxy Note these days and it's incredible how much bigger phones are now, it's strange to be able to reach my thumb up to the top of the entire device. Good times.
while most brands are getting BIGGER , apple are keeping smaller phones alive ( 4 inch SE and 5.4 inch IPhone 12 mini )

Spotify still works for me on the 3GS. Used it not too long ago
I had this and loved it. 2009 was a fun year
This was my first ever phone, nostalgia!!
one of my favorite iPhones. super revolutionary with that advertisement about the iPhone being in a briefcase really shows how proud they were of the iPhone 3GS. currently waiting on a screen replacement to arrive so i can fix an iPhone 6 for a friend
I had an Iphone 3GS and 4, on Android since. The 3GS holds a special place as my first smartphone and I have great memories of playing Angry Birds and letting my friends without smartphones play it.
I had an iPhone 3G, didn’t even use a plan with it lol. It was the first phone to really change my friends and family’s minds about what it meant to use a smartphone - it had excellent build quality and true utility
I have my 3GS too, honestly I think it’s a great phone and I love how much nostalgia it brings. But I would like to find a 2G and 3G. Nice video I just subscribed
Just got a 3GS this week for less then 10$ to my collection.
It has the same crack at the back near the charging port lol.
Tried some temple run on it and its running very good!
@Vicious Ebay, sold as not working / not turning on , but after couple of minutes on the charger its turned on and everything working fine (:
It's crazy that I did also have the same HTC Wildfire S back in 3GS era too...
Literally just bought one of these for purely nostalgic reasons. A hand-me-down 3GS was my first smartphone, but mine went missing years ago. Saw one on eBay in decent shape for $30 and jumped on it.
I'm gonna buy one for about $25. Good shape, 32 GB- I plan to use it because its camera has an incredible nostalgic type film looking quality. It isn't very good at only 480p but it gives off this feeling I really love so I thought why not snatch one?
I owned an iPhone 3GS it was a good phone. Bought a used one for nostalgia and it’s still working today. 32gbs and I have temple run 2 in it.
Great video Josh! (91Tech) and I enjoyed your videos! Also, I have a question? Does the CZcams app on iOS 6.1.3 or the latest version of the iOS 6 still works? And I want to see the nostalgia old version of the CZcams app :)
i think there's a way to get it to work with jailbreaking but i'm not sure
If you downgrade to iOS 4.1, you can get the old CZcams and Maps that came with the iPhone
The 3GS was my first one as well. Scored it for 100 bucks when iOS 5.1 is what was out at the time. I enjoyed using the phone even through iOS 6 and for about 2 additional years after iOS 6 come out. That phone rocked it out man
There is a reason to get a 3GS...
they (and the 3g) are ridiculously simply to do repairs on. I got a few to use as an introduction to phone repairs for myself and they helped me improve a lot, as they at every simple to do things on but help you learn proper techniques
Dude I loved how you shot this video in Whistler. Beautiful scenery. You should do another video at the Garibaldi lake lol
This was my first iphone and sold or ganded down almost every single iphone I had after this and but kept the 3gs for sentimental reasons. I fired it up after getting a bootleg charging cable and lo and behold..ot still works! Now I’m kinda excited to use this thing in public along with my 1st gen ipod touch. Great video btw
I love your channel bro
Are the activation servers for this iphone still up to use the 3gs as an ipod touch? Or are they gone now like the iphone 2g's?
i still play doodle jump on my modern phone, the classics never get old!
3gs was my first smartphone. In my opinion the "3" shape felt better in the hand than any other iPhone since -- smooth and comfortable. I was so excited to finally get a smartphone, I had it custom painted (colorware), which held up very well. Grey pearl with a burgundy bezel and home button. Sweet!
3GS was my first iPhone. I got it after the 4 came out, because my family couldn’t afford the latest one. I still have it, but it long since stopped working, and the screen popped out of its frame. I remember having to transfer all my documents over manually because 3GS stopped just before the first iOS with iCloud on it. Yes, I retyped out many stories onto my 5s just so I could continue working on them.
The 3GS was my first iPhone. I'd been dying to get one for ages, but couldn't get the previous versions for my network in the UK. I lost my 6 Plus in 2018 so went back to the 3GS for a while. I could phone and text and that was about it. :)
8:27 "Speaking of what used to be top of the line" I thought you were about to go into a sponsor message, LOL
I still have fond memories Tiny Wings and Jetpack Joyride riding the bus to school in sixth grade since I was always one of the first ones on and one of the last ones off. Rest In Peace, my iPod touch 4g that I dropped in a bowl of strawberries and it cracked the display. Thankfully at the time I had the Radio Shack warranty and they fully refunded it and by then the price had dropped enough for me to jump from an 8 gig model to the 32. What a time to be alive.
This was my first iPhone. Holds a special place in my heart. Got my use out of it.
I actually had a few iPhone 3Gs's ranging from 32GB all the way down to the 8GB. I think 2 of my favorite games were office jerk and solar walk. Both apps were and still are great ways to pass the time
My aunt had an original iPhone, then got a 3GS when that came out. She's literally only had iPhones, and I'd be willing to bet she's damn close to having had them all as a daily at one point or another. I do remember a kid having one in high school long after its prime (2012 maybe?) and he used the hell out of that thing. I didn't get one until the 4S, and that to this day is my favorite phone hands down.
My dad still has his I’m his iPhone 3GS and it still (somewhat) worlds despite being cracked and chipped all over.
0:00 right off the bat of this video I just wanna say I have the 5s and the 1 so I’d definitely think of either of those two.
i really liked the shape and feel of the 3g/3gs
The 3Gs was my first iPhone in 2011 and i loved it! I have so much mémories and i still have it
I just got a 3GS. Friend gave it to me. I revived it, jail broke it, official unlocked it. Fully working now. Also was given an iPhone 4 a while ago, which I used to have, actually twice before.
I use an iphone 6s but recently i bought the 3gs. App store has mostly unavailable apps and most the ones that do download but servers are down lol
Other then that- im quite satisfied
iPhone 3GS was my first phone. Great phone and at the time seemed to somehow outperform my iPod Touch 4 despite the older processor.
I bought my first iPhone in 2010 it was a 3GS and never looked back. Since then I've been on iOS only trying out the LG G2 for a short while. I had iPhone 3GS, 4, 4s, 5, 6s, 7 plus and now a 12.
I bought a 3Gs a few weeks ago. I wanted it tho, and it’s never gonna do more with it than use it as a conversation starter.
I own my 3gs on 2010, I loved playing on it = Dungeon Raid =
Thanks for the review 👍
My 1st smartphone I bought was a used iPhone 3GS in February 2012 for $150 it still works but I have switched over to Motorola in 2014 and have been using Android ever since. My 3GS is jailbroken I like the apps and the 1st videos I ever shot were from that phone. I am interested in telecommunications history I have worked in that industry since I was a teenager. I have a shelf of old landline phones as well as a few cellphones the 3GS is on the shelf. I dig your channel. I also have a number of iPhone 5Cs I got for $40 a piece still useful and interesting for that price.
Man the cameras on the newer IPhone has come so far it is incredible.
I still have a iPhone 3G/3GS that just parents used to use.
I just upgraded from the 3GS to the 7 this month. I used it for 10 and a half years. The 7 now seems like a magic machine.
