Anyone here ever use the iPod touch 5 back in the day? Friend of mine used it as his main driver until 2018- poor soul, not sure how he did it honestly.

I have an iPod classic 6th gen. It's very good!
I had one just like every other kid at school. I wish a redesigned one comes out
Back in September 2013 during my First year in College.. It served as my daily driver until early 2017. It got broke and repaired multiple times..
@@EdTheShed1 up until a few years it was usable as a secondary device, I used it along side my iPhone 8 until 2018
I used mine as my daily driver from 2013 until 2019 when I finally got a XR lol
I’ve always enjoyed the slim look of this gen of iPod touch.
it looks like the iphone seven even though there years apart
@Please enter a name Mine has seen better days too. The screen is lifting from the body due to what I’m assuming is the battery swelling.
Just glad I moved onto the 7th gen one.
Nice PFP
It’s an interesting hybrid between the iPhone 4S, with the A5 chipset, and the iPhone 5, with the larger display. It would be a fun A5 device to try and use as a daily driver and just see how far it can go alongside jailbreaking.
I still wish they had put in a more powerful chip
If it was released just a year later in 2013, the 5S had the A7 chipset and they could have put the A6 chipset like in the iPhone 5, or at least 1GB of RAM. Either one of those would have significantly helped long term.
also has the camera of the iPhone 4
@@TheOriginalCollectorA1303 but Apple doesn’t do that for some reason. They don’t make them built to last 😒
It’s still interesting to see what they did with it, even though it would have benefited from better hardware.
This was my very first Apple product and I used it from 2012 up until the end of 2016 when I got an iPhone 6S for Christmas and that BLEW ME AWAY with how much faster it was in comparison. I'm still very nostalgic for this iPod though and whip it out from time to time for the memories
Same, except I had a iPod Touch 6.
Yooo same story, my first apple product I used from 2012 to 2017, then I got an iPhone 6. I was really amazed on how fast & big the screen was back then!
And are you still using that iPhone 6s? It will be updated to the latest iOS version
same here. I first got my iPod touch 5th generation as my first Apple pruchase around 2015 and switched to the iPhone 6s in 2017. same experience about how fast the 6s was when comapring to the iPod. I still love my iPod tho, full of music and memories back in my high school year. my blue iPod has also become my signature item when my friends thinh of me, too :)))))))
Same bro
I remember getting this for Christmas when i was 9. Damn those days were so chill. Wish I could relive my childhood once again
I miss the days when the iPod touch was an alternative option to have just about everything the iPhone can do without contract
You wanted a phone but didn't need to make calls.
I used mine for emails and music. Very nice. Until they never update
Now that title unfortunately goes to the iPad, which isn’t a bad thing in and of itself. I never largely noticed how forgotten by Apple, it’s maker, it was. Could be partly my bad, as I only ever knew its existence through the App Store. I thought it was just an alternative to an iPhone, cell and everything. Now, it’s basically a better iTunes phone that runs iOS. It’s a good music player if you keep it plugged up into your car, or play music and shut the display.
@@couldntmixapotnoodle
With an app like TextNow, calls can be made over Wi-Fi using a number the app creates.
I miss the iPod touch
I love how this channel is basically just a feel good nostalgia channel for people who were there during the smartphone launches.
I have one of the 16gb models with no back camera, and I must say it’s one of the strangest but coolest apple product variants that’s ever existed
I do remember playing Gangster Rio /Vegas, Minecraft PE, Rc Plane, Nova, Angry Birds, Mega Jump, Ski Safari, Eden, Doodle jump, Fruit Ninja, Hill Climb Racing, Asphalt 6, Clash of Clans, Jetpack Joyride, Cut the Rope and of course Infinity Blade 1-3! etc. with my best friend back in 2010-2013...
Sitting in front of our or his house during hot summer evenings while everything turned orange... Simple times
Me with my iPhone 4 and him with his iPod Touch 4.Gen and later with his green/yellow iPod Touch 5.Gen, all with iOS 4-6...
Good old times
It was basically my childhood. Playing on our iPhone/iPod together, watching Nickelodeon, being Outside and having a blast of a time!
Those are Memories that I will never let go.
If I had a Time Machine, this would be my go for
Bro i used to have an iPhone 4 in 2014 when i was only 4, but i used my iPhone 4 more like an iPod Touch back in my little timmy days, heck, i mostly only played games like angry birds and Minecraft PE (the GOATed version of minecraft) in there more than just calling and texting.
Simpler times man, 2014... cartoon network is at its peak, and my older brother introduced me to it, with shows like adventure time, gumball, and regular show, iOS 8, Angry Birds Season's "Ham Dunk" episode, and so many other good and simple things, let me go back to it bro.
This was my first ever apple device. I had it alongside my trusty 3ds when I was 10. I have fond memories of that era. Time flies
Edit: I remember getting the 16gb version and was so surprised when I saw that it doesn't have a rear facing camera
Yeah that was a “special edition” I forgot abou
I remember drooling for this in 2015, I got my dad to get me an iPod Touch 5th gen for my birthday. Using Instagram and iFunny back then was so much fun. Every time I open up a new phone out of its box, I'm reminded of first opening that iPod.
I got a lot of nostalgia for the 5th gen as that was my first ios device and the closest thing I would have to a phone for years. Can't lie it did feel good to have the best newest tech of all the kids in school at the time.
Ah yes iPod touch, a great little sidekick in your pocket for taking pictures and writing notes.
Don't forget your wrist loop :)
@clog Gaming Cheaper to produce
I love watching these videos for the nostalgia factor, as most of these were devices I had when I was in high school! But holy jesus that filter sweep fx on the outro music is actual knives in my ear holes
This was my second apple device (the first being the 4th generation) my parents didn't want to buy me a iphone so this a cheap alternative but I still enjoyed it. I've had very fond memories from 2014 - 2017 until I got a Samsung Galaxy on 5 (2017 - 2018) to Motorola one (2018 - 2020) and now I have Motorola Edge (2020 - Present).
I had the on5 and it had NO STORAGE
I used this as a secondary device with an iPhone 4S in early high school, specifically the one without the camera. It served me well o7
I really loved the design of this ipod, I wish they made phones or other devices with that aesthetic
I still download music,it's more convenient than streaming to me since I don't always have service out here in BFE Missouri 😂😭
Yes I was just thinking about it yesterday. But I'm glad you made a video on it.
I actually still have an iPod touch 5 today. I got it back in 2014 despite me wanting to get an iPhone 5s at the time.
My cousin has still got an iPod Touch 5th gen on iOS 7. That thing is _smooth_ .
That thunbmail is amazing! Keep up good work Josh!
The quality of your videos is amazing!
This young man has always turned out quality presentations. And I mean young. He has a very bright future ahead of him.
I love your videos. You're growing so steadily. It is awesome.
Even today when I was out mowing the yard, I still used my iPod touch 2nd generation from 2008. How do you think it would hold up 13 years later? Well, it still plays offline music just fine and I can actually use it with any new bluetooth headphones since the 2nd gen iPod touch does have bluetooth, something that I didn't notice when I first bought it in early 2009.
How’s the performance?
@@RyanElliott2005 I have about 740 songs and about 12 videos and it does good with playback, can't do much on the internet though
Does it connect to iTunes cuz thats kinda important to me
@@sumone2997 all apple products like the iPod and iPhone do. Obviously.
@@sumone2997 yes, iTunes does still seem to work like if I opened iTunes on the iPod, it will still bring up a list of movies and music available for sale.
Im still one of the people who keep their music library downloaded to the phone but that's just a preference for me since i grew up on the original iPod
I still use the iPod touch
@@ryanrodrigues820 I would still use a ipod but now days I don't see any point in having 2 devices on me for something my phone already does
really enjoy watching your videos and the explanations are really at the point.... ❤️❤️❤️
I got myself an iPod touch 5 and I really enjoyed jailbreaking it.
we use this design of ipod at work as an barcode reader and for looking up inventory, still works great for this use case and the battery isnt to bad in my experience
It charges really fast, but then the battery also goes down in a day. But it still works very well
I always wanted one of these back in the day! I had an iPod Touch 4th Gen and the leap to the 5th Gen was just crazy. I never ended up getting one…but my grandfather does still have a 6th Gen. I now have a 7th Gen iPod Touch to use as my dedicated music player alongside my new iPhone SE 2nd Gen which is my primary driver 📱
The iPod 5 was my daily driver for 4 years, I have many great memories with this device 🤩
I still keep mine for the simple reason that there are games still installed on it which are no longer listed in the App Store. Those games are valuable to me because most of them are from the era where mobile games are still not infested in microtransactions.
Surprisingly, the iPod touch 5 is still useable in 2021, Sure it may be laggy and slow, but it is still usable
Not in 2022 though
But can u get snapchat n dat on this iOS
@@kimanistephen977 nope
The old iOS versions like 9 or 10 were so nostalgic. Old app icons amazing wallpapers and different control center
You know that ios 9 and 10 are from 2015 and 2016 respectively right? RIGHT?
@@LaelGames7913 that’s still ok
@@msporridge i mean, it technically is old, but it really doesnt feel so
mostly iOS 7-9, iOS 10 is basically the Pre-iOS 11.
i like how the pop up button on the back of the ipod looks like the knobs on ios 6
I have one in Space Gray on iOS 7.0.4 that I use for.. yeah sure some older mobile games that since been discontinued, but also with an app that can transmit to radio waves and allow you to listen to a station either locally or by a live online station URL. iOS 7 is a dream to use especially with its older music app, and it’s still somewhat modern to be used for its intended purpose of music on the go
I remember using this iPod in 2016 When it was on iOS 9.0 it was fast for its time
i recently brought and used ipod touch 4 and i love it with ios 6, i have more then 1500 songs and it serves me well
I owned the iPod from December 2012 until around 2015 when it was crippled by iOS 9 (not that it ran much better on the previous two releases), always wished I would've kept it on its original iOS 6, ran like a dream.
I got an iPod touch 4 on Christmas 2012, The same year the iPod touch fifth-generation came out. I got the older model as my parents couldn’t afford the new model. I used it up until 2015 when I got my iPad mini one. The iPod touch was the first device that got me into technology.
This was my first iOS device, my mom gifted it to me in may 2013 because I wanted an iPhone 4S, but in those times they were very expensive in my country and the only accesible iOS device was the 5th gen iPod Touch. I sold it to buy an DSLR one year later for about $100 of that time.
Yesterday I bought a white iPhone 11 base model, in that color because it reminds me my old iPod, of which I have pretty good memories. It had something “magical” inside of it, since I could play a lot of games and battery life was reasonable to such an slim device (I don’t remember much well but it had a 6mm thickness).
Thanks for the video dude!, it brought me back many memories of my highschool times!
The fact that it is "so slow" wouldn't bother me unless I am in a hurry.
Which usually I am not.
I use a 3GS which can play YT vids and some basic games like flappy bird but it can't use social media apps without Safari crashing.
It runs music just fine.
So it is usable but barely.
Yet I still use it and show it to people and I still love the phone, and it's size.
The product red one was my first ipod...it had cost $400..i still have it. It brings a lot of nostalgic moments so i consider it my favorite device even though the battery is still always horrible
I use to use an iPod touch 5g when I was in high school time flies and this video felt nostalgic I still have it hiding somewhere
I've used Spotify for the first time this past year (June 2020- present) I still have my over 7000 song iTunes library, which was mostly CD's I've ripped to my computer since 2006 (yes, I"m 30 and old). While I do enjoy the features of spotify, I've noticed some slight differences in audio volume/quality in downloaded spotify music, and ripped CD files. Spotify just isn't quite as good, and as someone who enjoys actually owning my music, having the "iPod" feature of my iPhone (the original reason I got one in the first place in 2009) it just makes more sense to use my existing iTunes library. I listen to such a small amount of "brand new" music, and when I do it's a specific band I've followed for years and I want to own a physical copy of their music. I'll likely switch back soon.
I'll always have my CDs. Even if Spotify goes out of business, or I don't like the quality of most downloads. Even if they get destroyed in a disaster, since they're ripped and put on my phone. They'll always be around, and they'll be better quality than streamed music, since they're in FLAC or on a CD. I don't like having to deal with all those problems.
I have one, bought new, and still use it every day for an old game & charge it every other day. No, I have never replaced the battery. It also gets used as a music remote (Spotify & Sonos) for guests - works really well & not slow. Have also used it for young kids (pre phone age) who have a lot of fun playing simple games & taking photos etc. Here in NZ my iPhone 12 mini (daily phone) is $1500 so while lots of kids do have one, $1.5k is about 50% more than the average weekly income, so lots can no way afford one. The iPod also works really well for car trips where there is no service (quite common in NZ) to play downloaded Spotify music. Since it's plugged in battery life is no worry. I have never used Apple music but yes, that is slow on the old iPod!
the first device i ever bought. i still miss that thing
I ordered one of these out of curiosity and because I’ve been wanting to get one for a long time
That Pop-up thinge is cool :)
Still got my iPod classic 80gb and it's doing great.
i still have my ipod touch 5, its blue on the back and has a white front on it with cameras both front and back with the ipod touch loop. it's old yet it still turns on, but very slow and apps dont work anymore/load properly so my ipod is kept as a memory from my childhood.
I have one of these I got off of ebay...baby works like a goddamn dream still. Shes still kicking.
I remember when my parents gave me an iPod Touch 4th gen. I was so stoked and loved the camera and bragged about the A4 chip with retina display. Good times.
I appreciate this so much! I need a media device to use with Spotify for downloads and I almost bought one of these but I was skeptical, think I might still get one and go back to downloaded music (all totally legally acquired, I assure you)
I'm a Samsung guy. Z flip3 as my phone, tab s7 for notes. But, for my project car, no bluetooth. So I use a modded ipod classic 6th gen with a 256gb micro SD adapter instead of HDD, brand new battery, shell and click wheel. Love that thing. I keep a backlog of all my favorite albums saved locally on my computer at home, and sync it with my ipod for drives. Should look into modding ipod classics man, it is so much fun and you get so much more use and life out of them. It's nice to keep around for when I don't have a Bluetooth connection available and only aux.
Had one, sold mine and got a iPod touch 6th gen. Which does pretty well
I LOVED THIS IPOD!
I picked up a 5th gen iPod touch at a recycling facility where I work part time. Nothing is wrong with it so I took it home , reformatted it to my iTunes and loaded it up with some of my music! It works perfectly and paired it up with my Jbl Go 2 speaker and makes a pretty good home sound system! Hopefully it lasts for some time in the near future 😎
I got mine for Christmas 2013 as an upgrade for the iPod Touch 4 because being the tech lover I am, I needed iOS 7. Mine is a 32 GB version in space gray. It ran fairly well when I got it obviously. However, I ended up getting an iPhone 5C just a few months later making the iPod sorta obsolete. However, I ended up finding an interesting use for my iPod. Given it had 32 GB as opposed to my 5C's 16 GB, it could hold a lot more video. As a result, the iPod became kinda my primary video recording device, especially for the TV recording I had gotten into. It worked quite well for that. I used it as my big video recording machine until mid 2015 when I got my TV tuner stick. Then it was more reserved for recording things like weather events from there on as the device was getting quite slow at that point after all. Once I got my 6S the following year in 64 GB, I rarely found myself needing the iPod for anything practical afterwards. I still like to get it out sometimes though just to remember that.
I had 2 iPod touch 6th gen between 2016 and 2017 and this year I got the iPod touch 7th gen I’m really enjoying it I’ve cds on my iPod touch and I’ve ever got Spotify on there
I got one today and im loving it after only 2 hours🙂
You love to see it
I had one of these but lost it some time back. Idk how I lost it though. I missed it so much I decided to buy the 6 (granted, used) and I love it lmao
Honestly there are times when I look back at ios9 on my ipod touch 5 and think to myself just how modern the operating system was. I understand it was released in 2012 but it just still seems very modern.
Watching this video on an ipod touch 5th gen. Been using this since 2013 ❤️
i had a blue ipod 5th gen was a awesome colour
I wish that wwdc announced iPod touch is coming back and is still available for purchase right away
I still have this iPod ♥️
I still have my iPod touch 5 it doesn’t work anymore but I’m hoping to get it fixed I remember buying in 2016 and used it during high school since then It was great memories for me.
I still have mine too but mine doesn't work anymore either (I unfortunately dropped it into the toilet and that fried it). Great memories for me too. I loved that device. It'd be nice to get it fixed just for the memories but I wouldn't use it on a daily basis even if I did get it fixed. Maybe one of these days, I'll get it fixed just for the memories (if it's fixable that is. It's been water damaged since 2016).
I remember taking about 2 months just to choose which ipod I wanted, there was so many options to choose from
Still use mine with ios6, and yes with downloaded music 😁
can't believe it's already 10years, still looks like modern device
This was my first apple product and it was beautiful.
What if they made a new iPod that was just like the new iPhones, with the notch and everything, but without any sim support. I wonder how that would sell
It is 2024. Typing this remark on my iPhone SE 2016. Funny thing over the years I had lost it until I started thinking about what happened to that iPhone I used to have. It had slid of the bed under the headboard to the floor. I hadn’t vaccumed much then one day there it lay. It’s fun to use as a knock around. And it still uses my SIM card I use in my Razr.
I only bought a 6th gen iPod a few days ago because it was still on iOS 9.3
I still use one of these sometimes when I need to record audio in front of a camera I can just put this in my pocket and have the earpods wired in and have it record my voice, that's really all I use it for though.
I am so sad now my iPod 5 broke a couple weeks ago and had it since release. I used it everyday for music and games. I might buy a new one. The iPod touch 5th gen is compatible with Apple Music
My first iPod touch was the 4th I Remember going to Best Buy Getting the 8 GB one
My Ipod touch 5's battery was getting so bad, it couldn't even last 1 hour! btw nice video:)
I loved this iPod when it came out with iOS 6
The 7th gen Touch could’ve been the 5S/SE (1st gen) body for a higher battery capacity and potentially a non-underclocked processor.
I have a 7 and a touch 7 and you really don’t notice the under locked processor. I do wish that the battery was bigger in possibly a bigger body. Maybe a hybrid between current and the se would’ve been lovely!
@@NielsDutch1906 That’s good to hear about the processor since I also own a 7th gen Touch.
thats a budget iphone
I really like the attachment thingy where u can attach the loop/lanyard.
The loop itself sucked arse though, it would fray so easily.
I use this device along my iPhone XS as my music player ( no ads for downloaded music :) ) and my iPad 4th gen from 2012. Love the nostalgic slide to unlock and the click button. I got it as a replacement for my iPod 2G with 8GB because I lost the 30 pin connector cable. It is still good for music and even runs games like Happy wheels or even Minecraft 1.16 without a hitch.
hello, does ipod touch 5th gen have coverflow like the ipod touch 3/4gen?
@@AethenNicoleMadera I’ve seen workarounds to get it to work, but I haven’t been able to do it myself. Doesn’t mean it’s impossible though!
I really wanted to have one when I was in high school
i still have it today 10 yrs later. it still has my curated library and flappy bird lol. i use it as music alternative to save battery on my iphone.
i still have my blue one!! it doesnt last longer than 10 minutes, and i regret updating from ios 6 but it is a staple of my childhood and it will always hold a special place in my heart
for music, ive moved onto a zune lol
I still use my ipod touch 5 as a remote control and live view screen for my doorbell cam/ baby monitor (Chinese Go Pro)/ canon vixia camcorder, I also recently used it to recieve Apple ID verification codes/ OBD reader (Automotive Diagnostic tool) and a few other purposes too, at 59 I am as slower than it is.
Oh man these where killer back in the day. I remember playing GTA on this on the bus to school
I do have the blue iPod, it’s currently in my drawer because the battery went bad and can’t barely hold a charge. Also the home button is broke as it does not click anymore when I press which is my fault because like to fidget with it.
The blue iPod is such a good color and I would buy it again with updated specs and a bigger battery!
The design was so ahead of its time, you know that because they still make iPods with the same exact design
My younger brother had to use an iPod till just this June when I have him my old iPhone 7
You can always use iPod classis, with SSD instead of HD and new battery that pretty simple to replace
For me I still use some unbranded from China, when I do not want to waste by phone battery on music
Absolutely, did a video on the "5.5 Enhanced" iPod Classic a few months back- those are fantastic devices.

Using the Apple 1 computer in 2021
I recently got one for 15 US dollars, i love it it was my 1st iOS device, but is kind of slow but for music is awesome.
I had my iPod 5 jail broken with the best tweaks when in HS. Unfortunately an arsehole student and a toilet made quick death of that.
Still use one regularly for for music!!
The iPod was cool and one of my first portable gadgets, but as I grew up I never understood the logic of giving them to kids who are "too young" for a smartphone and I figure that probably partly plays into its discontinuation. I see really young kids nowadays with clearly their own phones, as the parents are also holding them. There's always parental controls if necessary and if you just want a media device for your kids to have to play with, a deactivated phone would work mostly the same, though buying an iPhone unlocked is quite expensive.
I remember having an iPod Touch 5 but without the camera 😂
The only use I can think of for these from now on is if you want a dedicated music player for your car. This is great for those of us that don't want all of the notifications, calls, texts from their phone to interrupt them while driving. Other than that, just use your phone!
I watched this video on an A5 device (iPad mini) and I can confirm that even something as simple as unpausing this video is painfully slow on iOS 9.
