- The first iPad may just be the greatest innovation of the 2010's, being the first good tablet. How does it hold up nearly 10 years later?

my grandpa uses his gen 1 ipad still
its not lawrence lol how, its so unbelievably bad these days.
I still use my iPad 2. It has went through 3 of my family members and now I have it. It works great for movies and is not too slow
For what? How?
@@Benjamin-ko1fg up until Christmas i was using a samsung galaxy s4
My grandma uses the iPad 2
The iPad is still my favorite Apple product to this day and was the device that got me into technology. My first iPad was the iPad 2 and it still works great 8 years later. My current iPad right now is the iPad Pro 2018 and I cannot believe how far this device has come in terms of the design and functionality.
My first iPad was the 4th gen and I have the 6th gen now.
Woo oosh Nice.
TheDaffiestDandelion I have not had any bending issues on my iPad Pro. I know it’s a design flaw that many people reported, but I was fortunate enough to not encounter it. I hope that the next iPad Pro is thicker so the bending issue can be resolved.
TheDaffiestDandelion yes I like threw it on the ground with a case and it came out oh it and has a bet of water damage
My iPad Pro is a piece of crap. The headphone jack on mine stopped working. Useless for watching movies. So I went to Apple and got a replacement. A few months later, the replacement started having touch screen issues. Can’t be bothered to get a 3rd replacement.
That old iOS design still gives me chills. It was so good. It felt so human and alive.

Um I’m actually watching it in the same exact iPad😅
Im watching in 7th gen?
Seeing that old CZcams logo really brought back memories of the old CZcams.
Reactedgaming 341 my paper iPad dummy test thing has CZcams with the old screen 📺 that is what it looks like
Yeah, the only problem is that the old CZcams app no longer works. I do also still have that on my 2nd generation iPod touch. I do remember that CZcams app working perfectly when I first bought that iPod touch in early 2009, but now in 2020, iOS 4.2.1 doesn't go far.
@@Dr-Random you don’t have that anymore. I’m you, just a different account.

I remember when the first iPad came out. I saw other college students in the library try to type an entire essay with just their iPad's touchscreen keyboard. Must have been a pain in the ass.
This was me taking notes on an iPad in third grade. It was so heavy for a little kid’s hands.
Yall remember playing angry birds on the old ipads
I know it’s been 7 months but yes
Yes and I still have it, despite it no longer in App Store 😞
UltraMegaLink07 WAIT ITS NOT IN THE APP STORE?!
Tilly, sadly no, the people who made the classic angry birds got rid of it saying that they didn’t want to keep updating a game if few people played it, at least that’s what I saw, if you downloaded it once, you can redownload it
I played it on my dads iphone 4
I still remember getting this when I was 7. It was my favourite device that I've owned and it was just so fun to use and play around with. Seeing that iconic home screen and wallpaper makes me tear up 🥲
I brought this thing to primary school back when nobody in the Netherlands even knew what an iPad was and they thought I was from the future or smthing
I remember when this came out and my brother bought it and everyone was always surrounding him and were in awe. He still has it
Lol
The nostalgia of the first iPad
I still got mine, just plugged it in for charging after seeing this! Bought it from Apple 5th avenue, my first ever visit to official Apple store. Replaced the original with Ipad Air when it launched in 2013, and now my wife is using the Air while I got the Pro for myself. Both the original Ipad and Air are still working flawlessly, amazing devices!
This is not the latest Apple iPad, but it is faster than I thought. It has a great screen and it holds a charge pretty well czcams.com/users/postUgkxhcEDB3r-OJ3_X5hQzr7k1ZofTQy1ao_U . I was concerned that it would not be powerful enough because I have several older iPads that are slow and cannot update to the latest software. But this 10th Gen has the speed and power. I do not use it for video editing, so having an M2 processor is not necessary for me. This iPad model has an A14 processor. So far so good. Glad I bought it. It helps having a larger screen compared to my Apple phone.
Still got this iPad 1 and it still works, resting in its original box with its original accessories. Great stuff, I might use it for a week.
I love how you have a Wii Mini in the background!! The most UNDERWHELMING version of it!! 😂
guitarboyjeff WiiMini
Holy hell, the iPad 1 can’t do crap in 2019
:v maybe surf some webs and watch some videos. 🤔
Grass The Bodybuilder no, webbrowser crashes often and so does youtube.com
You can’t do the most simple things because it just runs out of ram
its 2020 now though it can do more
I am surprise that bad boi battery still runs. The energizer bunny inside is still ticking.
It’s an antique. Crappy stuff but good collectible!
I still have my first gen iPad! I keep it because it really did change my life through podcasts and CZcams both of which I had only glanced at previously. Truly an amazing innovation for consuming media.
Thanks for this well done look at it - CheerZ!
I love my iPad Pro. I use it for business and creative use. I remember when everyone wanted a "tablet-style" iPod Touch. Thanks, Steve!
I love its boxy design, glad they brought it back with the 2018 iPad pro feel so nice in the hand.
As an app dev, I always thought there was a strong market to develop apps for older iOS devices. I still have my iPT that stops at iOS 6.1 and I can do so many things with it if I cared to write the apps.
IMO, Apple really screwed up with the App Store not sorting by iOS version. People paid quite a bit for these devices and now Apple just dumps them. The devices themselves are sill great, you just have to find apps for them. Shame on Apple for not at least having those old apps somewhere.
You realize they do that on purpose, right? It functions contrary to their benefit to make continued use of older devices convenient. Their entire business model is about forcing you to adopt their newer devices by getting you hooked on their ecosystem of products then making them obsolete so you have to go buy the new model for WAY too much money.
@@companyoflosers You are 100% correct, and yes I fully understand this. In fact, right now I'm looking at an iPad and I see a MASSIVE jump in the front side camera. In one version, it went from 1.2mp to 12MP. They have to play a game with what options are offered each year. It's confusing and makes things harder, and they have to be concerned that people just won't buy the new thing. I'm STILL using an iPhone6s and 2012 15" Macbook Pro Retina. Some of us control ourselves and don't upgrade unless we really need it.
I have one, and it’s an absolute tank. I also have the newest pros but occasionally pull out the gen 1 to wax nostalgic. It still works and iOS 5 was beautiful
Nice video. The 1st gen is now a collector's item. You are right. The ipad has won the tablets war. I remember when the tablets flooded the market.

You can use it as a rotation lock or a mute switch depends on what u choose in the settings
René von Bielefeld It used to be only a rotation lock until iOS 4.2 which it can also be used for a mute switch
@Flyingcat 655 until ios 4.2 and yours is ios 12 thats why. Also did you read the comment

iPad is my favorite product Apple has ever made! Right now I am using the 2019 budget 10.2 iPad with my Smart Keyboard it’s perfect for me!
Me too
me too! i love it
My ipad Air 2 2013 still going strong! I have used it everyday and its still going. Best purchase ever!🙌
My dad uses an iPad 3 still to this day, he got it as a present from his work when he left it, and sadly that was when the 3 was the newest iPad. It’s kind of slow but it serves his needs just fine
I remember when i was around 8 years old and we had our first Ipad, we were all obsessed with angry birds (even my parents) and we would just sit on the couch and pass it trough while everyone had their turn. It is crazy because now everyone has a smartphone and we wouldn’t be able to imagine this
I actually still have this one. My brother-in-law gave it to me when I was little and I used it for many years. Best of all, it still works quite well to this day.

My first apple product introduced by my father. this changes me a lot, i was in collage in 2011 my father bought me ipad 2, I used a lot doing something like reading lecture notes. its still works until now, the only thing is the battery and software update. but it was a great product.
I use mine for reading digital scans of comic books exclusively. And it works PERFECT for that.
You sound like a narrator from one of those “top tens you didn’t know” videos lol
"Cheap iPad 7th generation"
Man, if that's cheap I'm screwed
My dad was given one of the first iPads out there for his trucking job while he was still working there. He had a real hard time using it because he’s never really been into technology, but still had to use it for his work. It’s been about 10 years since then. Feels like yesterday honestly lol 😂
I still have mine from back in the day with its charger. Still works too!
Good video,
I use old iPads as alarm clock. Look for the app Clocks, it runs on all iOS devices from iPod, iPhone and iPad.
The iPad 1 was my first experience with jailbreaking. I had lots of fun and turn the iPad 1 to a cell phone.
If you have a wifi-cell version, it just need a compatible SIM card.
My first iPad was the second generation and I still use it to this day!
I am still using mine on a Bluetooth speaker as a giant iPod (64GB) and it makes a great internet radio running an old version of Tunein.
The iPad one is my childhood. Thanks to it, I discovered my true passion which is computer technology.
"the impact it has made cannot be overstated!" not understated, after all the iPad really was a game changer!
I remember the day going all around town, catching cabs etc to stores for the first iPad and they were selling out.
Managed to get an iPad but they only had the Wi-Fi version left, but I still ended up getting it anyway.
It seems so long ago, yet the experience in many ways still feels largely the same - It's mostly a good thing and am hoping Apple will really upgrade iPadOS heavily borrowing from MacOS for that next step incredible step.
I have the second generation iPad and I've been using it for 7 years. Still works good to this day.
I still have the 1st gen iPad with 3G and 64GB storage. It's still on it's first battery and original screen etc and still working like a charm. Very happy with it still altough you can't use it for much nowadays but it's still a great music player and for productivity it's still good too.
you can jailbreak it and make it usable again
I have use the first iPad when I was younger. I loved it ever cents. I think that you should do best and worst iPads in 2020. Or, what about an iPad buying guide? I think that would be helpful. Keep up the great videos that you’re doing!
I too loved it ever cents.
I remember the good ole days playing dumb ways to die and bike racing
I had an iPad 2 until 2018! Been loving the iPad 6 ever since!
I still have this iPad, got it as a 18Years Birthday 2 months before iPad2 was released. I still have it with the original box and charger etc, and it only have one scratch on it. It's locked in my safe now. I will have it until the day i die, and it's worth a fortune then. I still remember people looking at me, and people saying "Hey, its an iPad" when i used it in public when it was new here in Norway.
Getting a first-gen 64GB WiFi+3G iPad for my Grade 8 grad was the best!
There was an iPad prototype with a charging dock on the side as well. This could have been a precursor to the smart connector.
My iPad 2 from 2011 is still going on: it’s almost unbelievable that the battery life in this device is still good
The iPad was ahead of its time. I remember seeing a video which apple showed a device that had your email and read the local news, it was all done on a similar iPad device. I have al the iPads today and use the iOS system which is great and still learning news stuff. Downey California

I found an iPad 2 sitting around a work a few months ago and played around with it for a bit. It actually worked pretty well. It was a little bit slow but terrible. I guess if someone had to buy the cheapest iPad available these days, for some reason, the iPad 2 is half way decent for the $40 or so that you can get for on eBay.
I got an iPad 7 for Christmas in 2019 I love it so much I’m actually watching this video on my iPad.
man, this brings me back to the angry birds days
that an ipad can be considered an obsolete antique, wow. we live in the future :)
I was there when I bought the first ipad I just remember being so blown away by it.
I still got one of these. I used it for a really long time, but at some point the youtube app (not the built in one, the one from App Store) stopped working, I think it was around 2-3 years ago. After that I picked up an iPad Air 2 which I am watching this video on right now. I havent even seen the video yet, but from my experience with the first gen iPad, I will assume that you will say that its horrible in 2020 and that no one should still be using it.
3:00 Yep, I did play A LOT of games on my original iPad back in 2011 as a 14 year old teen! Silly Owls, Cordy, Angry Birds, Cut the Rope, Where's My Water, Jetpack Joyride, and many more… That's in contrast to the present day where I don't even have time to play videogames of any kind, but would think about doing so.
6:36 Oh right! The first iPad also marked the debut of "iBooks", which would go on to be rebranded to "Apple Books". This was my first foray into e-books, before I went on to Kindle, having tried Kobo at the time but had trouble navigating their iOS app of the time (they have improved greatly since then, or it could've been that I switched to Android and didn't realise Apple doesn't allow third-party content stores on their platforms), and eventually had an original Kindle Paperwhite for a few months before finding that to not work for my needs, selling that, living without an e-reader for a few years, before getting a Likebook Mimas white edition last year.
9:21 Yep, the App Store didn't look like that back in the day, but I presume it was a result of changes in iOS 11 and Mac OS 10.14.
11:32 Oh wow, the old Netflix logo and interface. I'm surprised you were able to log in and play a modern Netflix original show that wouldn't have been around back when that old Netflix interface was still current.
It'd be interesting for me to be able to try and see if the old version of the Kobo app for iOS still works and would let me log in. If I did, I'd probably show a photo of the main menu with a copy of "Flember: The Secret Book" (published in 2019, and is currently the only paid book I have on my Kobo account as of posting this)
Happy new year/decade
i remember using this when my parents got it for my 3rd birthday right when it came out in 2010. I still have it right now and its doing fine, pretty old but i would never give it out. My first ipad is one of my greatest memories 😥😥
I got it when I was 11. I wouldn’t give it away either but it’s not working good anymore unfortunately.
I didn't had the first iPad but as a very big Apple fan and tech guy, I wanted one like crazy back then! I was 13 years old. The next year, I managed to collect some money and finally purchased the iPad 2!
The IPad 2 lasted 7 years, I was satisfied.
My ipad 3 lasted 7 years too!
My mini lasted 4 years. :( I’m lowest.
Sorry to flex but mine is still alive
Nice video!
I did the same process yesterday. I found a 64GB Version in perfect condition for only 15€. That was worth it i guess xD
This 1st gen iPad is still great to run standalone music apps like synths, beatmakers, Garage Band, Drum Machines, samplers, etc. The Samplr app alone is worth an old IPad purchase, like these 1st gen, that are pretty cheap nowadays, even outside the US, as they are pretty useless as media consumption devices ( the main ipad use for most people) and people are replacing them to newer models.
Broo this was amazing, my friends in math class would play gravity guy on our iPad's! People don't know what this was like for us. A GAINT TOUCHSCREED DEVICE!! It was unheard of!!
They still give these out to teachers in my school and I have one but it is too slow to be practical.
I can't jailbreak it without permission from our technician, but I will ask him.

Yeah, happy..
Wow, I'm actually charging one of these right now.
I bought one in 2014 (you know: nostalgia!) and then it was still pretty decent. But it lost youtube-support, DRIVE-support and there are almost no older apps in the app store now. Not speaking of 2-factor-authentification. It's still ok for watching photos, videos and I still got the amazon prime-app which unfortunately crashes frequently. Also Modern Combat - Black Pegasus. Adobe pdf-reader, bluefire-reader and ibooks still work pretty good. I don't want to jailbreak it, because then I will loose all the actual content on this tablet.
In my house we always had Netflix on our 1st gen iPad and have been using it as our streaming machine whenever we use the eliptical/treadmill in our basement gym.
Ahh the First Ipad. I use mine as a coaster board for my drinks now. Surprisingly Still works and no scratches on the screen.
9:06 yeah I don’t know about that, even celeron laptops from 2009 would be able to do more in terms of web browsing.
Yeah that’s what I was thinking my mid 2007 MacBook runs the internet really well
Pillo Kase that’s because apple programs each device to be slower when a new one comes out, even when it is factory reset.
I’m not even joking they got sued $1,000,000,000 (1 Billion) for doing this
Vasili Dallas that’s not true what your talking about is something to do with battery’s and the reason why it’s slow is because the web browser hasn’t been updated since 2012 if you download a version of internet explorer from 2012 on a modern pc it will be just as painfully slow

Hi and thank you :-) I started out with the. 2010 iPad like yours. Later on, when my iPad 3 had a temperature monitoring chip failure, which disabled it permanently, I attempted to resurrect the 2010 iPad. I gave up because by then it could no longer use the CZcams app or stream YT in a browser. If (for curiosity) I jailbroke it according to your advice, would I be able to stream YT?
