- A walk around Morro Jable in Fuerteventura - the great pillow hunt
After an uncomfortable first night in the Fuerteventura Princess hotel, because the pillows were like having my head on a rock, I decided to go shopping in Morro Jable for a soft one.
I walk through the shops of Morro Jable old town and ended up on Morro Jable beach, which is at the southern end of the lovely Jandia beach. If you want to know what is Morro Jable like this should help.
I couldn't find a shop selling pillows. After giving up and starting to walk back to the car, I noticed the first shop I walked past and went in. They had pillows!

Hi JP, I have to say I have always admired the discipline(? or perhaps it is just how men are) of men who go shopping with a list of 2 items and low and behold only purchase 2 items!!!!! I would have walked out of the store with new bed throws, a couple of scatter cushions, a new floor mat, and whatever else caught my eye, and several other things from the Pharmacy. The trees are gorgeous and they are Royal Poinciana, very similar to our Australian Jacaranda (purple flowers). Anyhow the beach looks amazing, I hope the new pillow offers some relief 😁
haha - I never have that problem Melly. It is the start of about 15 miles of gorgeous beach. Thanks for watching.
Happy you found a pillow. I always travel with mine :)
I usually do but forgot this time as I have got out of the habit of travelling. Thanks for watching.
You prat John! Glad you found it in the end, nice video!
I know. tell me about it.
Jandia has beens my favourite place for the past 12 years 😁
It is lovely. Thanks for watching.
I shall be visiting here in Oct, and will be packing rollerskates (the streets look lovely and smooth!) and a sketchbook to draw all those gorgeous plant and flowers. Lovely vis, JP!
That's a good idea Laura. Have fun and thanks for watching.
A rolled up towel usually does it for me. Good video thanks.
Way to hard Sue. I need a pillow that is like having my head on a cloud.
Ahhh, nothing like a happy ending! We'll ALL be able to sleep well in our beds, now!
You know, John, we have lived here just over five years now, and have never visited Morro Jable old town! We’ve driven past a few times on the way to Cofete or Punto de Jandia, but have never taken the left hand turn. Well, as soon as Helen sees this blog I just know she is going to want to organise a trip/stay, so thanks for that! Seriously, though, it does look very, very attractive, especially with those trees in bloom (we have always wondered what they are called, there are lots in Puerto del Rosario, but I see someone has named them in another comment - I must make a note). Love the video, it really does work well just strolling around with the camera. Hope you both got a good night’s sleep after your efforts! Cheers, Alan
That is quite hard to believe and you live closer than me too. It is a nice little town. I quite like the streets with the trees down the middle and the little cafes with tables under them. Almost more like a mainland village. Thanks for watching Alan.
Love Morro Jable as a small town and the beaches down the south are stunning.
The old town is nice. Thanks for watching.
Lovely video. So envious. Sitting in my car waiting for the rain to stop so I can run into work.😣
I remember those days Sandra! Thanks for watching.
Didn't know you were a fellow pilot John! I'm over in Corralejo on Sunday, can't wait! All the best, Rob
Yes, flew for quite a few years out of Denham, Booker, Leavesden and Blackbushe. I owned a quarter share in a Tampico for a few years too. I stopped in 2002 when I started racing. Do you still fly? The weather is pretty warm at the moment. Have a great time and if you see me about say hi.
The great view at the beach. 😎 I get homesick a bit to Fuerte. Yes, the pillows in all Spanish hotels I visited are really strange. Never had a good pillow there. Hope the new one was better?
It was certainly better than the other rock Ben. Thanks for watching.
I fully understand the pillow problem here in Europe. As we drive almost everywhere, we take our pillows with us. :-) In this case, from 1:26~1:31 I think I would've just deleted it instead of playing it fast motion.
So I am not alone then which is nice to know. I think you are right Les - too late now though.
The Almohada quest, cheers, is nice to get the daily feel os streets
It is a nice place - provided you can find a parking spot!
Viví en Morro Jable en el 2002. Veo que ha crecido el lugar, pero muy cuidado y sigue siendo bello. Saludos!
El casco antiguo sigue siendo agradable. No mostré la nueva zona turística.
What a cliffhanger! Love it when there is a happy end 😉
Tried something like this 15 years ago in Mallorca.
Went to buy a travel hairdryer for my wife. 40 degrees in the shade 😎. First Day on holiday.
Had two choises leaving the hotel. Left whereabouts all The shops were or right to The Beach.
Went left, spend 2 hours and finaly after 10 or so shops, found one .
In The afternoon we went to The Beach. Just round The corner less than 2 minuttes from The hotel, was a small lokal shop with everything electrical including hairdriers 🤬
It was even cheaper there 😢
haha - that is just typical Lars. Thanks for watching.
The trees are called Flamboyant. Which I guess they are.
Jake Carman Thanks Jake! That’s it!
Thanks Jake
Love Morro Jable, I was there last year, stayed at the Sol Fueretvenruta Jandia (Sol Jandia Mar Apartments) it’s currently closed till December because of well needed renovations on the room, it was a nice hotel location was spot on, lots of Germans when I was there! Simons Irish Bar did the best burgers I must say!
I agree, the old town is lovely. The newer touristy part is not so nice. The south is predominately frequented by German tourists. They were the first to discover Fuerteventura as a sunshine destination I think. Thanks for watching Elliot.
As far as I remember fuerteventura was very nice although my family got pissed off with the wind so we go to Tenerife instead as it’s not very windy mostly. Over here in Britain we’ve had the hottest day on record at 38.7c. Suddenly today it will be raining and 18c. Can’t have it all can you. What sort of temps are over in the Canary Islands in November. Can’t wait.
Always warmer here then there in November Jude. We always came over for my birthday in November and spent every day on the beach.
Hi. nice video from Morro Jable. Can you recommend some places for "nightlife" (restaurants, cafes, bars, pubs ...) in Morro Jable, Jandia or nearby ?
Hi Martin. Well we stayed in a hotel 5 km away so we didn't go into Morro Jable at night. My guess is that there won't be too much nightlife since large hotels dominate the south and people tend to stay in them at night. There may be some life in the bars in the newer part of Morro Jable opposite the lighthouse perhaps. Thanks for watching.
A taste of pillow around the corner lol cheers ......:)
lol thanks for watching Colin.
Great video. I too have driven around and round Morro Jable many a time trying to park! I dont like that town just up the road from there called Mal Nombre....Its got a really bad name!!
haha - very good. Thanks for watching.
I really enjoyed it when I stayed in MJ .It''s my favourite place to stay on Fuerte, after Cotillo. I just had to perfect the phrase "No Deutsch"....
It certainly has life outside tourism - well the old town does anyway. 😀
🤗🤗🤗
Thanks for watching Minnie
Does Morro Jable have restaurants with fresh fish and meat and were you can see the sea while eating?
What’s the all inclusive like. Heard mixed reviews. We are coming to this hotel next week. Can you get procceco ? 🇬🇧😎
It is good, if you like all-inclusive. No idea about prosecco as I don't drink. If you are on the top all-inclusive deal it includes premium drinks. Have a good time. I suggest you watch my previous video which is mainly about the hotel - czcams.com/video/ptctH45Uszk/video.html
Hi JP! Greetings from hot Finland, ca 33 C today! Been following your interesting vlogging with my wife since we’ve visited Fuerteventura couple of times. Re this vlog, my wife presented a question of the ”shade trees” at 3:36 on video. Do you know the name of those beautiful trees, please? /Timo
That is hotter than it was here. Thanks for watching them Timo.
Hi Timo, In The Netherlands we call this the FLAMBOYANT tree (Delonix Regia). We tried to raise them here from Fuerteventura seeds many times but it never worked due to the climate. You will have to move there to have them in your garden! All the best, Bert.
Result! We will be exploring the south of the island next time over.
There are some nice places and some great beaches. Thanks for watching.
Whoops - I managed to miss this one....
Watching isn't compulsory! Actually I still need to watch your latest too.
@@JPinFuerteventura Maybe not compulsory, but very enjoyable. Watching mine isn't compulsory either ;¬). I'm a bit prolific... I go for three a week if I can.
A nice bit of exercise, and brownly points ,off Sue..
Well yes, it was a nice walk. Brownie points never last long though. Thanks for watching.
Ah, the pillow thing. Taken holidays in hotels all over the world and never had a descent pillow. Bad pillows make life miserable.........but what to do JP? Buy new? Risky eh? Pity you cant try before you buy :)
I always used to take a pillow with me but forgot this time. I must have a soft skull or something. Thanks for watching Monty.
You should of went to spec savers JP 😂🙃
Yes, I still can't believe I didn't look in there. Thanks for watching.
Lol JP this is just what I'd do, wander round for 2 hours looking for something as mundane as a toothbrush! Must be a man thing :)
I think it must be Andy. Thanks for watching.
Why didn't you ask the hotel if they had softer pillows?
We had their full range in the room. Mine was "firm" - which means like rock and Sue's was "soft" which to me was like a slightly softer rock. I am sure most people would have found them comfortable. Thanks for watching Stephen.
Are at a "restaurant"here , made us ill and lost our holiday ended up in hospital , selling contaminated food, steer clear of BURGER AVIENDA !! go to Simon's Kitchen instead ,I hope I've saved your holiday ,to the owners you should be SHUT DOWN! I'm sure it's the one on the left at 8.42 mins 😠
That does sound good.
shade tree= Flamboyola or somethig like that.....
Yes, Flamboya or Royal Poinciana is another name. Thanks for watching.
6 years of Spanish lessons and you cant ask for the pillow shop?
I am a man so I never ask! Thanks for watching.
