When I get to painting my car I now will take the mirrors a part to avoid over spray and I never would have thought of that before this video. Thanks.
Thanks Timothy, the mirror parts were some of my favorite parts of the restoration. Lots of time, but very rewarding.
Happy belated Father's day Russ! The mirrors are looking great!
Thanks Jay. This has been one of those projects that took more time than I expected.
Nice work Russ. Happy Fathers Day
Thanks SprayWay.
Fabulous presentation Russell! Happy Father;s Day to you Sir!
Thanks Mike, I appreciate that.
Man those are nice and clear. Remember Russ that’s you mug looking back at you. Lol nice clip.
Thanks Gonzo, lol. Yea sometimes I have to ask myself, who is this old guy looking back at me. lol
Great vid Russ. Great info. This is one hell of a resto job. Only us car guys understand what it takes. Thank you
Thanks Richie. Yes it is alot of work. I do enjoy working on them, but seeing Bart on the Power Tour really makes me want to have something to drive right now. lol
Rich, Russ approves of me getting your TA, lol so this will make it car number 7... and I'm telling you Russ snag up a junky C-10 before they want top dollar for them! Also I might know of a channel that was a ton of C-10 repair videos! LOL
LOL! I'll keep my eyes open for one. I would love to have a c10 to ride around in.
Hi Russ. Good job. Thanks for all the info. Never thought about overspray.
Thanks Wiley. I plan to paint mine apart. Should make it a lot easier that way.
Excellent work Russ. The glass work turned out like factory. Also, nice tip on taping the mirrors differently to avoid overspray on the edges. Definitely something I wouldn't have noticed until you mentioned it. Happy Father's Day.
Thanks Dan. This has been alot of work on these mirrors. I hit alot of small road blocks while working on them
Looks awesome brother nice work
Thanks Pharraway. I appreciate it.
I'm lovin' this stuff, thanks so much..
Glad you enjoy it! Thanks John
Well done Russ. Great details.
Thanks Barry, these mirrors have been alot of work for sure. I'm glad that they are done for now. Lol
Great detail Russel.
Thanks Greg, this vid has been in the making for a long time. I hit alot of different road blocks with this one.
Happy Father's Day!
Thanks Tom, I hope you had a great one as well.
Nice job and good vid.
One of my favorite series, working on these mirrors. Thanks for watching.
Love the channel buddy. I like how in depth you are with the whole project. I have a 70 RS second generation gang
Thank You. Going into this year, I thought maybe I was being too in depth, however looking at this years past vids, that's what I like about my channel and that's just how I'm wired. I just wish I could get more time in the garage. Thanks for watching.
Great job as always Russell! Hope you're having a wonderful Father's Day! ♥️
Thanks Niamh. I sure did. Spent the weekend with both daughters at a water park. It was alot of fun.
This is exactly what I wanted to see! My mirrors are completely frozen and this gives me all of the insight on how to take them apart! It would be nice to actually use my mirrors for once! Great video as always Russ!
Thanks Bart. I hope it helps.
Great information Russ! Another well done video too. Thanks and take care
Thanks Jon.
Happy Fathers Day to you too still love your attention to detail Great job
Thanks Hanson. I have been missing your progress on the 94.
Yup. I am packing up my mirrors and sending them to you :) Hehe. AWESOME work dude. I would not have thought of taking the mirrors apart. One more thing for my whiteboard...
LOL, Thanks Erik. This was a fun project. My next vid will be coming out Sunday that wraps these up. They are pot metal. I did blast them, but I turned the pressure down and went slow taking my time. On a couple of places the housings did have a few pits, or voids in the metal. Cheers.
Great video looking forward to the next episode also I wouldn't mind seeing a glass alignment video
Thanks Junior. I will see what I can do. I need to get these skins on first. Hopefully soon though
had to ring your bell again have not been seeing notices or heard from you in a while so checked in thumbs up and shared happy fathers day great job buddy look better then new
Well I just checked, and I wasn't even subbed to your channel Drew, lol. I know I was before. Probably from a YT update. Thanks for checking in, and I hope you had a great Fathers Day too.
Nice in-depth video you've shown me that I can get the glass out of my housing I have as if it's hard to figure out a 79 Monte Carlo gonna put turning arrows in my mirrors hard to find people that show all aspects of the job good luck on the rebuild
Thank you. It's one of the things I try to do with my videos. I hope it helps on your project.
I think the thicker glass looks just fine . Well done Russ 👍
Thanks Steve. I agree, I think it would be fine. I have a few sets now and have to decide which ones to use. I hope to sell a few mirrors to offset some of the cost.
Happy Fathers day to you also! While I don't have a 2nd Gen (yet) to restore I do use your tips and helpful advice on other projects so thank you for posting!
Thanks so much Scott. I'm glad to hear that my vids are helping.
Looking good Russ!
Thanks Jeff, I put way too much time in these. Its amazing how much you can get wrapped up in some of these details/small parts.
Looks great!
Thanks
Good methods that would apply to quite a few different applications.
Thanks George, yes I agree, this would apply to several applications
Wonderful! Thanks for such a detailed video, have the doors off my 77 T/A and was just wondering how the mirrors came off
Thank you and thanks for watching
The mirror glass turned out great Russ. Good info as usual. Looking forward to the next video. Happy Fathers day to you.
Thanks Roger, I hope you had a great one too.
I would like to add an LED for a blind side sensor indicator inside the side mirrors. I am curious how easy removing the silver would be in one spot.
Not sure I follow on what part your wanting to remove. You could adapt an amber led into the housing, either on the stand portion or under the mirror easily.
Ever try to retro a newer electric power mirror into the classic bullet style mirror?
I have never tried. Would be cool though
The housing for my driver side is different then yours, there is not a large enough hole for the cable to slide through to get it off. Any suggestions?
I have heard of this but never ran into it myself. I would probably duct tape the cables to protect them and use a die grinder with a small carbide tip to open it up. A dremel with the right attachment would work as well
This is what I wound up doing - it was a pain but it can be done.
Next time I’ll just pull some Camaro mirrors from a junk yard. 😂
Nice job on the glass replacement. The little ball & socket part in my mirrors are corroded and very stiff to move. I have sprayed them up and can soak them up more and try to get them working more freely but was wondering if this part is available as I have not seen it anywhere, or if you had any suggestions?
As far as I know it's not available. I lightly blasted mine. I did have one that was just too loose. I ended up scrapping it. If you keep working with yours, I bet they will free up.
Double R Restorations thanks, kinda what I was thinking
I have a 1978 Camaro, and will be putting an LS1 engine install. Looking for some pointers..
I have never put an LS in a 2nd gen. I would recommend reaching out to Dan at Restocar here on CZcams. I know he put one in his. Thanks.
