I purchased the CX-30 GS (2.5L) over the Seltos EX (2.0L), what nailed it for me was the cabin finish and drivability (quieter, smoother, more powerful, great handling). I really like the non-touch infotainment system, but it has a bit more of learning curve.

@@2004cyrus I don't have that feature, have no interest in remote starts, can never see the point of them. Not sure that connect app is even available in Canada. Owned my CX-30 for over six months now but driven so little due to the many lockdowns we've had in Ontario so not getting full enjoyment of it. One minor gripe is the fact the heated steering wheel does not completely heat up just the centre section on each side (my previous vehicle had a full heated steering wheel). Very good on fuel economy and is a very warm cabin (very even heat) in the cold conditions.

Great review. We just bought a new CX30 Premium and couldn’t be happier with it. One thing I noticed in your review during the sound level test is that you had the moonroof shade slid open for the Mazda and closed for the Kia. That definitely makes a difference and tho the Mazda won that challenge, it should have been by a larger margin. Just an observation.

I bought one, like your test vehicle, in Soul Red Crystal Metallic. It’s gorgeous, has a high-end, driver focused interior, and it has that silky torque-monster engine. I’m single, kids are grown, I wanted something attractive, practical enough, and fun to drive. It’s the best small CUV below the near-luxury market.

Like you, I have no kids to drive around and want a car that's fun to drive and easy to access while having practical features and reliability. I hear the front seats are very comfortable, which is the first criteria in my books. Second is the engine and trany, which Mazda get's right. It has to be as quiet as possible, too. Mazda checks that box. And I don't want to take a chance on cylinder deactivation, which, thankfully, won't be available in the 2021 model. Finally, I want a peaceful drive; not a jarring one. At this point, the toughest dilemma is color. Do I go with a color that hides the plastic (machine grey or titanium) or one that accentuates it?

Pebble beige gold? Saddle brown interior. DUMP the white interior. RED interior? Cobalt/navy blue interior? just a little spice, Mazda corporate needs to leave the office once and while and live a little, and Yes, outside Hiroshimas tiny bubble. I'm in the US, so not sure models are the same, but I bought a Seltos in Feb. 2020, and so far so good. Did not compare the Mazda because, for me, the lack of cargo space makes it impractical. It's similar to what was in my Soul, which is why I ended up trading the Soul for the Seltos. I think the Seltos is the perfect blend of size and space. No doubt the Mazda rides better, as the Seltos ride is certainly not luxurious (and I have the fwd 'S' model), but if it proves to be reliable, I hope to hang onto it for a while.

Definitely a couple of facts awry here. The Mazda app is not available in Canada, so no, you cannot remote start your car through it. Both cars have manually foldable mirrors, and neither have power foldable mirrors. The Mazda does not have wireless charging standard but it is a dealer-installed option (albeit one that costs you the bottom of your centre storage bin). You also seem to suggest (though your editing cuts make it difficult to know which car's features you're talking about at any given time) that the Mazda has wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay - it does not.

The MyMazda app has never been available in Canada, only the US, so we cannot remote start over our mobile phones up here. Even in the US, if you go to Mazda's site, you can see this: "Due to the termination of the 3G network by multiple carriers, our mobile-app-based remote engine start system will cease to function after September 30, 2021. We regret any inconvenience that this might cause you."
As for the folding mirrors, I have a CX-30 and they can be manually folded, as can almost any new car (for transportation purposes at the very least) and I can see in the video you posted that the Seltos also has manually folding mirrors - you can clearly see the break line where it would fold. Thank you for the review. After I cross shopped both these sub compact suv's along with the subaru cros trek and their new fast motor lol, I found, being a man, the seltos was boxy and more appealing, looks less like a chick car.- With both SUVs in pearl white and both being same top trim, the mazda is about $4000usd more than the seltos! Also I found the kia was significantly better off road, navigating the jeep ruts, it was impressive, the CX-30 was far to easy to scrape the front end. Also I felt that the kia was much faster to turn in, If you are navigating through quick turns, the kia was much sharper to turn, body roll ok but planted and verry dificult to get the tires to break lose. Maybe this is due to the mazda being about 200 pounds heavier a 1 inch longer wheelbase and having only 215 wide tires compared to the Kias 235 wide rubber which griped and changed direction noticeably quicker. With the mazda you are paying big time for that motor, you can always pay more and get more but If you need AWD for bad dirt roads, the kia is superior for the price. With a Costco discount I got my fully loaded pearl white with sun roof Seltos for $28.333, and mazda cannot even come close with all their discounts. So a closer review would be the CX-30 with the 2.5 ltr which has closer mpg figures to the kia and still manages to come in at a higher price and it felt slower in town at lights and passing cars than the 1.6 turbo in the kia sx. If you are test dreving the mazda I urge people to test the hard breaking and see if that back end coming out on you is scary or not, tires may be all the difference if that is an issue. I had the same issue on my mazda 3, changed from 225 wide to Pirelli sport 235 all seasons and the rear was more planted after that.

I get that the Seltos is more box-like. However, it doesn't ride as well compared with the CX-30. If you're looking for something bigger, the CX-5 is just a bigger version of the CX-30. Plus, the standard safety and luxury features are standard on the Mazda. Moreover, you can add wireless charging for $250 to even the base model CX-30 for just. Personally, I prefer the Mazda display and system than a traditional touchscreen system. The Mazda system is very fluid and usable. It reminds me of the BMW i-system (*the industry best in my opinion).

Cx30 doesn't have foglights. Wishful thinking. But the cx30's headlights regardless of trim are FANTASTIC! romte start should be on Mazda key fob which need a total upgrade. CHEAP scratching plastic. Mazda, wheres thebpremium in that? On something you may touch everyday. Hand free lift gate and auto close roof needed on CX30. WTF with the manual passenger 3? It's Mazda premium aspirations that throws everyone off. Complete the upmarket and with giving buyers something to grumble about. You have all the needed ingredients on the assembly line. PS: mazda deleted.the power folding mirrors in NA markets. I guess we are the poverty step-child in Mazda's universe.

The Seltos, not even close. It looks better, offers more utility and the interior is far better ergonomically. Plus to get the same level of equipment on the CX you’re looking at $36k vs $30k.

The Seltos looks like $25K. I do like the ext. colors Kia selects. I like the spacious interior, but a box will always give you more room than a chopped top small MazdaBuick CUV. 2021, all Mazdas, even with under sized wheels, look more expensive than they are.

6sp auto for America must have different algorithm than Euro. Because it's seamless and unobtrusive in NA. Turbo or not. I thinka Euro is used to flunks from DCTs and constant shifting. A good zf 8spd would do wonders for mog and lower the 0 to 120 by at least a full sec. A few have the cx30turbo doing it in 5.1 secs. That's fast! Faster than Alfa Stelvio 2.o. way faster than rdx.
