Hi I’m having difficulties to close the side mirrors my garage is too small
I need help how to close both side mirrors
From my perspective, the increased height is a HUGE selling point over the Mazda 3. I’ve had a Mazda Miata for 6.5 years, and while I absolutely love it, I just can’t take feeling low to the ground anymore while on the highway. I don’t want to give up the elements of fun and sportiness, but I need height. I need an SUV, but I don’t actually want one. I feel like Mazda had someone like me in mind when they designed this.
Nice review. I think the slim front indicators are one of it's strongest design elements. The CX-30 has a total of eight of them on the exterior. In addition to the lower front bumper there's front & rear facing LEDs on the side mirrors along with the ones in the back. Even Stevie Wonder can see when you're planning on turning.
I wouldn't even consider a Mazda 3 because I need something that can get out to hiking trails and kayak put-ins on national forest roads. The ground clearance is a must-have. Then you also get the good on-road driving dynamics. The increased ride height is also nice so you don't feel dwarfed in traffic.
Love the straight to the point honesty. Absolutely refreshing. “Throw your Toyota in the dumpster”. 😂 Excellent review!
Glad you appreciated that 😅
Agreed! This is the kind of review I'm looking for!
I also really love the volume knob by the infotainment controls. My 2015 Mazda 3 had that and it was one of my favorite features -- REALLY miss it.
Yea they do a great job with ergonomics
The raised height also helps with smacking the door into high curbs if you live in a city. Also, the height keeps you from dragging the front end on pavement when exiting certain parking areas.
That answered alot of my questions so thanks!
Glad it helped my friend!
Absolutely. I love mine.
2022 CX-30 Premium Plus Turbo Edition.
i like your review, it’s very helpful and valuable.
Glad it was valuable!
Some reasons people like raised height is better visibility in traffic, more ground clearance on snowy roads, and less likely to bottom out in various cases.
He lives in CA. He doesn't know what snowy roads are. It's sort of a car enthusiasts' review more than a practical one.
Personally I think the CX-30 looks better than the Mazda 3. Also there are other reasons to need more ground clearance besides ease of access. Steep gravel driveways. Rocky dirt roads. Snow. Etc. I will be buying the CX-30 next year.
Excellent review! I would say the CX30 is more for a single or just a couples car. I'm 5'2 and it's perfect. I just got mine and switch to it from the CX5. The 5 was too much for just me. Not a sedan fan so this is a way better choice for a smaller SUV. I'm a Mazda gal! They did a good job with this. My only firm side with the premium is the rear speakers. A bit weak. Better done in the CX5 Touring.
Great review and insights Kevin. Just wondering how things will change five years now as the used car environment will have these high tech cars (be it Mazda, Genesis, etc.), but will be either expensive to fix and/or only the dealership will be able to repair the car with all it's tech. I know you have reviewed a number of cars from Cary Imports such that it would be tempting to purchase a car from them for the chance to meet you....that and drive your LC 500. Just kidding about the LC 500 bit though.
Haha I went to Cary Imports so much they don’t have much left for me to review
Everything is just going full EV we will see so many Electric cars by 2025
That's one of the reasons I'm getting this. No cvt or hybrid drivetrain. 15 years down the road this will be simpler to maintain. Though the turbo could complicate things.
Great review brotha
Thanks for stopping by especially after all these years!
@@MeynMotorGroup Between you Savage geese-Mark and Straight pipes always here for you bro. You spit pure facts and genuine reviews. Thanks for all you do for us
Humbled by that!
I have the 22’ turbo premium in black and I think black was the only way to go considering the cladding, very sharp looking
Couple other things, when making 2 hr trips I’m averaging 300 gallons a tank so fill ups are frequent during city driving. Audio is very good I just love it. Back seats are cramped but I don’t have a huge reason to need bigger ones. Visibility took about a week to get used to. I love the dial controls have absolutely zero gripes with them. Makes me a little sad the heated steering wheel does not go all the way around. Back up camera in the premium is honestly shit imo it is somehow always messy when I need it even though I wash this car regularly. Overall I would pick again and I would pick this happily over everything at this price point. The other thing I wish it had was a dark head liner Atleast as an addon option. Other than that I can’t think of any other issues.
@@Formless999 At first I thought there was something wrong with the heated steering wheel lol! My wife's honda pilot steering wheel has heating all the way around!
@@tungol00 dude I’ll tell ya what man it doesn’t even get that hot either! Have you noticed that too?
@@Formless999 Yes and again on my wife's honda pilot, I have to turn it off after a few minutes because it's too hot!
@@tungol00 definitely one of the few downsides smh
I was cross shopping this vehicle ( exact trim ) with kia K5GT line awd, acura IlX, camry trd. I know I am all over the place. This car lies in the middle of the venn diagram of all others for me. Good engine, class leading interior, great speakers, awd, somewhat sporty. Only gripe is not having NA engine so I don’t know too much about long term relaibility of these turbo engines. I am thinking about pulling the trigger on this one if they don’t charge much above MSRP. What’s your thought ?
Just get a non turbo Mazda or a base model Avalon Camry is a waste
I love my CX-30 2.0L Skyactive-X with 186HP and 6MT!!! It is good and solid and don´t need too much fuel. I need around 5.5L fuel on 100km. That´s ok for 1550Kg.
I thought about the Mazda 3 2022 to replace my 2010 Mazda 3, but the reason I'm considering the CX30 instead is that I'm sick of getting stuck in the snow.
Good point
Great review. I REALLY like the idea of a smaller, premium, quiet, nice-riding, AWD vehicle with a higher hp engine. My only concern would be the torsion beam suspension -- for the "enthusiast" driver. I'm sure 99% of the people will never notice, but on a FWD car I like to do lift-off-oversteer when I'm having fun -- so would be curious how it would handle that. I agree: The front turn signals being at the BOTTOM of the bumper are super lame. A lot of people would probably not see them and think you're not using your turn signal at all -- which would piss a lot of people off. They don't even look that bright -- they should have put super bright LEDs in there, to compensate, at least. But you can tell it's an incandescent bulb by the way it's turning on and off.
Yea you won’t have much fun driving this at the limit 😅 Blinker placement was def dumb
It's LED. They designed it to fade out to give an incandescent aesthetic
@@kylematthews3683 -- You're joking, right?
No
@@kylematthews3683 So you're saying Mazda sank additional time, money, and effort on superior technology (LEDs) and purposefully made them less bright and slow -- to match incandescent bulb behavior -- despite there being zero benefits (and only additional expense) to that. I don't think so.
after alot of research, I am going for the 2023 base model of cx 30.
Damn... you hit kinda hard with the "older people" comment 🤣🤣🤣 wtbs, I freaking like that CX30 cause it's a very different looking car'ish ride.
😅😂 it’s just I feel like the younger crowd would go for the 3 lol but actually young people don’t matter because 24 year olds and younger make up less than 1% of new car sales in each segment….it’s the 40s and up crowd that are married that buy cars and have the means to anyways
I really like this car and I'm 29. It's just me and my golden retriever and we go backpacking, hiking and camping and I just want something I bit bigger but not a "soccer mom" kinda car. Plus the rear ac vents is a big plus for my dog and I love the idea of more hp
@@Christina-po7ez I like it too. It's one of my favorites right now. If I had to get an SUV right now, it would be in my top 3. It would be great for you and your gold retriever
@@timw2083 definitely!! What are your next top 2? The hyundai Tucson is also on my list but maybe you have an insight into another car that I can look into
@@Christina-po7ez my SUV picks are 1. CX30, 2. RAV4 and 3. Hyundai Tuscon... I wanted the Tuscon for my daughter but she fell in love with the CX5. We went with a dealership in Raleigh that Kevin mentioned in some videos, a pretty smooth experience.
Don't forget to check out some hatchbacks 1. Mazda3 hatch, 2. Corolla hatch or Cross, 3. Kia Soul/Niro/Sportage... a wildcard would be a Kona. I love how the Corolla hatch looks and would be a great option for my daily.
Additional ride height is also good for snow belt areas or light offroading.
How is the brake .. it was very rough and needed alot of power of force from me to stop the car.. I was test driving 2022 mazda 3 sport. Not sure how is it here. Is this engineering issue..
Don't you feel like they should have added automatic folding mirrors? That's the only thing I feel like it's missing. Since it has this luxury feel and aesthetic.
I completely agree! I thought it had em so was looking for them!
I already spent and got the same model but in black color.
I'm leaning toward the select but I'm wondering what the factory stereo in the select sounds like? Any thoughts?
It’s not bad for what it is but Bose is noticeably better and best choice if you like your music
ABSOLUTELY!! I truly LOVE my special edition turbo cx-30!!!! I traded my 2019 turbo cx-5 for my personal sport driving!!!!
but girls hated this car though ,think it s to expensive n they re scared to drive fast
Never Understood why Mazda put the subwoofer 🔊 where your spare tire is because it’s a hassle to get off if you need that spare for me At least great video btw
Yea noticed a lot of car companies doing that could be for weight distribution 🤷♂️
Yeah, but who doesn't want some bass while they are changing out their flat tire?
@@ShowMeWhatINeedToKnow like screwing it off of that mount it’s very annoying lol but faxx lol
Imagine the horror of having to simply uncouple and set aside the sub to get to the spare. You probably shake your fist and yell at passing clouds too.
@@Steven-en6uu never that lol 😂
We have a good reason to get an SUV here in Miami, Florida: Rain and flooding! Hahahaha That's why here there is a decrease in sales of coupes! Besides k the small SUV are more practical! If they add the panoramic Moonroof they will make the CX 30, the perfect and fun small UUV car! Car Driver puts it at number one in its category!
The clickbait title worked for the wrong reason - we almost considered not getting a CX-30 because it was too large.
May God Bless you
Suggesting this is a retirees car because of it’s raised height is missing boat on this in a big way. I chose the CX-30 over the CrossTrek, because if I’m going to spend 3-4 hours driving to the northwoods to go canoeing, I want a more comfortable drive and better on-road handling. There is nothing the CrossTrek offers on gravel and dirt roads that the CX-30 can’t do equally well. If I was planning to do more hardcore off-roading, I’d get something in a completely different category than a CUV.
With 5.5 inch ground clearance, there is zero chance I’m getting a Mazda 3 over the CX-30. It’s just not going to handle two-tracks and dirt roads at all.
The cladding on the lower part of the CX-30 is great protection on gravel roads and two-tracks. It’s not just a visual statement.
I wish they would do away with the delicate plastic piano black around the window controls. Your tester is new and already marred. Mazda has been shuffling the piano black around since at least the 2014 Mazda 3 and it always looks terrible inside a year. Touch it with a finger, it’s scratched.
I daily drive this car it’s great no problems
As much as i love Mazda, they seem to be muddying the waters with regards to their lineup.
They’re just making a ton of SUVs since they know it will sell by the truck load in the States…I just hope this SUV success won’t kill off things like the sedans, probably will though sadly
People w bad backs and knees. Young and old need a car that isn't low. Getting into my golf is often painful.
Great review! However, rear leg room and non-touch screen facts are the only things that keep me away from buying this beautiful car. Rear leg room doesn't have to be that tight to have a sporty driving feel and rotary knob is not the best way to enter an address to the navigation or use Apple Carplay/Android Auto...
Yes my friend the rear is certainly constricted not much space for full size adults
You can acclimate to the tech system quickly and find not reaching for the screen a benefit.
@@kendallsmith1458 You are right mate. But I wish there was a way to overcome the tight backseat room problem by the time, too :)
I see kia, Hyundai, honda, and mazda and think they are putting just way more effort i feel especially from an interior standpoint
Totally agree
@@MeynMotorGroup i still have my sonata after 240k miles and still going strong! 💪🏽
I like it but how cramped is the interior?
It’s ok In the front just the rear seats which are cramped. Trunk is ok
You mention old people driving the CX30, but you failed to mention places that have crap roads dont treat the Beautiful Mazda 3 as it should be. Certain places have roads that will absolutly trash a car. And with a higher ride height you dont have to feel as bad about driving it on the dirt and you dont have to constantly avoid every small dip in the road.
But you failed to mention the CX-5 which rides higher and has more space while costing not much more than this
If the cx 30 were a 2 door I’d buy the turbo version
The window belt-line is far too high. You can see the window starts at your chin.
I sat in one before and that's the very first thing I noticed. For the record I drive a 2014 Mazda 3 and it doesn't have this problem.
It's impossible to comfortably rest your arm/elbow on the door with the window down.
From the outside the plastic trim gives an optical illusion and hides how high and small the window is.
The CX-5 will give you much better visibility with bigger windows.
It’s not as bad as it looks on camera but most of these new cars have adopted a high belt like for safety purposes especially in a small car
@@MeynMotorGroup This is exclusive to the CX-30 in Mazda's lineup. Only 25% of the door is window compared to like 33% of every other model. Even the prior CX-3 had bigger windows (I drove that as well).
Hondas brand new Honda Civic has a low belt line with very big windows (thankfully). It's like 40% window. The Camry also has big windows and low belt line.
I believe the high belt line is mostly a cost saving/appearance decision they make and not necessarily for safety.
We noticed the same thing, made us feel extra cramped in the rear and a bit carsick even when the drive started
@@omgitsme435 Darn. I was concerned about exactly this.
Also the seats on the cx-30 are far more nice and comfy then the cx-5 my mom has the 5 and I have to say they r mid seats
Too small for the price if I had to buy new I would get the Mazda 3 hatch , but used I would buy a Acura MDX
Yea I would go Mazda 3 as well
It's about the exact same size as the Subaru Crosstek Wilderness..... which I was also considering- but THESE feel like so much MORE QUALITY - quality materials- quality sound- performance and build... the subaru is about the same cost and it just FEELS, looks and SOUNDS CHEAP- junky... so YES_ I'd spend that much.
The fuel tank on this thing is damn small
Yes this is true, I’ve noticed many new cars are beginning to use smaller tanks probably to save weight and cost and that would be ok if this got better fuel economy but this is average at best so a larger tank would have been better
@@MeynMotorGroup They probably designed everything before having the idea of putting the turbo engine in there; in europe and japan we don't even have the turbo at all. so with the NA engines (G or X) we have good or very good consumption and the fuel tank is more than enough. So, consequences of the turbo after thought (which is still great tbh, I would love to have the chance to buy that engine here in Europe)
Only the highest trim levels get the brown accent interior trim. Everything else get that horrid blue!!!! A deal breaker IMO!!
Yo bro 🤝
Hey brother hope you’re well on this Good Friday, hope you and your family have a great Easter weekend
@@MeynMotorGroup Thanx bro will do hope likewise for u and your family 🤝🙏🏾🙏🏾
“The only demographic of people I see getting value out of that extra ride height, is older people.” Yeah this guy definitely lives in California lol.
Why?
Because there are dirt roads and rough roads everywhere else in the USA where a higher ride height and thicker sidewalls are a must.
@@MeynMotorGroup Snow storms friend.

I’ve watched many videos on this car in the last few days and this is by far the dumbest thing anyone has ever said about it. C’mon man.
Honda? I test drove that HRV. What garbage. When you hit a pot-hole, the front wheel feels like it digs into the hole & abruptly releases. You also feel & hear every crack you go over. In this vehicle its quiet as a church.
Im about to retire and dont want to replace a cvt turbo or domestic engine on a fixed income so another CX30 nt w leather and sunroof is headed to Disney vs DeSantis!!
Or you buy the cx-50 which is better than both.
Haven’t tried it
I'll stick with my CX-5
No
Yes
I think that $ 35k is a little bit heavy because this comes in to the midsize class, where you have a much bigger car with a better drive quality. Thanks Kevin.
I think for most people the regular 4 cylinder is more than enough this is mostly for people that can afford to splurge
I would choose this over a base model Audi Q3, BMW X2, or Mercedes GLA. This offers so much for the value and performance that's in a class above.
👊🏾👍🏾👍🏾
CX30 is looking big car outside but really small inside especially in second row seats. Perfect car for small cockroach.
No too smalll.
So the only reason you would want a higher lift on a vehicle is to get in and out. Why dont all senior citezens drive lifted pickups? Because it"s for clearence! Oh whats that dead clump of animal in the middle of the road? I should swerve around it. Wait I'm in the CX 30 not the Mazda 3 I will just ride it down and under the center of my vehicle.
You could clear a squirrel carcass in a Porsche GT3. You don’t need a lifted truck to drive in this country, it’s not that serious. We have clean paved roads to be thankful for.
Yeah I said specifically a squirel and not an animal carcass. Like a Racoon. IIts lifted for clearence., Not as much as a lifted truck. But the same reason.
In what universe can u get a base CX 5 for $25,000. Each trim level the CX5 is by far more expensive. Do your homework.
Hello my friend! There are a few car brokers on the leasehackr forum offering 8-10% off MSRP on Mazda vehicles so you should be able to score a Base CX-5 for under $25k cheers!

Nope.
This is actually the worst review of all time lol. The cx-5 is an SUV cockpit, the cx-30 is a sedan cockpit. The cx-30 seat sits lower on the ground and is better for tall people cause you don't need windshield height (like a truck/large SUV) to fit but separates itself from the Mazda 3 as well with thicker better tires. It's the best of both worlds of the cx-5 and the 3. Do better dude.
So much plastic.. Interior is very cramped and cave like in person, we felt claustrophobic inside. The window belt line is just too high.
Maybe try a Bentley next
Millennials be like... "Turn signals? What's that?"
Middle aged aren’t doing much better when it comes to driving actually they’re getting worse since they suffer from the same distractions as a 16 year old

All that Cheap Black Plastic makes the SUV look lower class.
