- I make an Industrial Style Shelf Bracket after bending the Steel Rebar into a knot to use inside the shelf bracket. I love the look of industrial furniture and all the decor that comes with it, and this shelf bracket has the look I like. A nice MIG Welding Project using rebar.
I hope you enjoy my video of the steel rebar knot shelf bracket project, it was a lot of fun to make. I did make other brackets exactly the same, so I could hang the shelves.
The main tools used, are a MIG welder, angle grinder, drill, and bench vise.
The big rebar is 12mm, and the small rebar is 7mm
Tools / Supplies, I often use are.

Hope you found something of use in my video or at least found it entertaining.

Note: When you bend metal/rebar, you naturally weaken it. Bending it cold will normally cause fine cracks, and it may even break if you put enough strain on the rebar or bend it in the same place too many times. Do not rely on cold-bent steel/rebar to support a load.
Thank you.... I greatly appreciate how you balance the noise when compiling your videos. Nothing worse than turning up the volume to hear the words being spoken and then getting your ears blown when the person uses a tool. Your videos are done awesome in that, I can turn them up and not worry about waking up the neighbors.
Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment, I do try to keep all the small sounds in and reduce the loud ones, thank you for your feedback.
As a fellow welder & metal fabricator, I want to say I love your work brother, I admire your creativity and clean look to everything you make. Very impressive & incredibly talented, thank you for sharing your art & giving me new ideas to try out!

Отлично! Если несколько таких петель установить на арматуре, а их концы загнуть крючками, то получится оригинальная вешалка для спецодежды в мастерскую...
Миллион идей! Спасибо.
Я надеюсь это стёб.
😄Если только доспехи вешать
I like your technique for hiding the welds in holes drilled through the plates.
Garden variety plug welding.
It does make for a very clean, neat, fabrication.

Hello from Russia. Pretty boy! Perhaps I will repeat for myself! Thanks!
Another great shelf bracket Gavin. That knot is so simple yet so beautiful and unusual. It could be incorporated into almost any project as embellishment. Keep up the great work mate, I only just found you and now I'm addicted. Love all your videos 👍

Well Gavin, I must say... You are a True Craftsman!!! Impressive Workmanship!!!
That wrought iron look could do all sorts of crafts that would complement barns, horse people, cattlemen, and cowboys. I can see it in all sorts of western, and feed stores in the USA and throughout the world!!! Very ingenious!!!
Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment.
@@GavinClarkdiy you're very welcome! Keep up the great work!!! I know I make suggestions... I am NOT trying be Ego-Maniac I just give ideas to the talented gifted like yourself.
So here's another one..LOL
I JUST SAW A COMMERCIAL THAT THEIR SYMBOL WAS A FIGURE 8 LAYING DOWN HORIZONTALLY. AND I THOUGHT I BET GAVIN COULD MAKE THAT! AND MAKE IT LOOK LIKE A BOW TIE BY LEAVING THE LEGS COME OUT ON THE BOTTOM 45 OR 30° ANGLE AND MAYBE EVEN PUT A BACKING PLATE ON IT AND THEN TURN THOSE BOTTOM BOWS IN TO HOOKS??? Sorry I'm not yelling my phone was on all capital letters and I worked all day and I'm beat. I don't want to change it, hahaha!!!
I don't have a garage or a shop anymore, so when I watch your videos I just get antsy! because I want to be in the Shop again working, doing things like that! I love creating stuff, especially with metal and wood!
Thanks again... I know it's not easy filming your work, but you make those videos Great!!! Have good day I'm going to look up the time difference between you and I. 😁

I really like your shelf brackets. A set of hooks would be really cool. Take the design of you "Industrial Style Metal Handle" from February's video and make the handle design, lengthen it, and "Tie" some clove hitches, or the cow hitch you do in this video onto it ever 3-6". Extend the tag end(s) of the knots down to make hooks. It could work in an entry way, kitchen, closet, etc.
What an awesome idea Andrew, I like it. Thank you for your comment.

This man is not difficult for him, and the iron dances in his hands, my respect and appreciation
Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment.
👍👍👍 muy buena técnica maestro roshi
Love how you use a measure and then bend down after and use your eye and give it a eye tweak.
Hahaha, Sometimes when working with steel or rebar, just because the measurements are right, it can still look wrong because of the lines on the rebar, it must be a proper 90 angle plus look right. Well that's my thoughts anyway.
That was fun. Definitely a piece to appreciate hanging on your wall as opposed to just chop chop grind and slap it up there... Nice work!
Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment.

its so much better just hearing the actual work sounds and no music
I think you are right, I am going to try to find some light music just to kill the absolute silence, when I am not making a noise. Thank you for your comment.
when its just the working sounds its so relaxing and peacful to watch you work. Very nice metal work too.
This gives me an idea about making knots for my offroad jeep.. For some looks..
Mr. Clark make a very impressive pieces of arts. It is natural to see thumb up because this illustration deserve it but what is not normal is seeing thumb downs. Why anyone will do a thumb down for a true artistic works. I am very sad to see that because this is real sick.

Dear master creator and welder! I cannot find the correct word to describe how inspirational and satisfying your work is. I do salute you sir, master engineer. I am now stressing I need to buy a good vise, a mig welder so that I try out your hand. The beauty of your work is that you don't use beyond reach high end tools. I have never welded anything before, but you have inspired me to try it out. Thank you so much!
Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment, I wish you the best for your projects. There are many beginner welding videos on youtube watch plenty and have a good play. After many years on ark welders, when I went onto a MIG I can't believe I didn't make the change to MIG earlier. I wish you the best.

For pieces with mill scale or rust patina I generally use Penetrol (made by Flood) clear coats can be applied over this once dry.
Soaking in white vinegar overnight will strip mill scale for painting
Hi Ian, have you used Penetrol, with a clear coat over the top? Did it stay the same in a year or was it milky? I have used Penetrol (awesome stuff) and still have it but I have never done a clear over it, it always been painted just to protect the metal, I want to be able see the steel underneath. Thank you for your comment.
@@GavinClarkdiy never had any issues that I can remember with going milky, the Penetrol can give a slight yellowish tint under clear coat though. I use Penetrol on my CNC plasma cut metal art, sometimes it’s a rust patina, plain wire buffed steel (I use weathering steel mostly) or other times I use copper sulphate / white vinegar solution selectively rubbed on with a rag for an interesting effect.
One thing with Penetrol I’ve found is that for me it’s best to use a pressure pack / spray, it’s dearer but the liquid can go off if you have it too long. What I usually do is apply a single heavy coat (as I’m trying to also cover detailed plasma cut edges) and then blow off excess with clean dry compressed air, wait a few days before applying clear coat if required.
In my experience application of more than one coat of Penetrol can cause it to remain tacky and seem not dry for many days and due to this I don’t do multiple coats.
Not sure if I can post any pictures of some finished pieces I’ve done in Penetrol
Thank you Ian, I appreciate your reply, and will have a play with it myself, I have a spray can now. Thank you. Try sending photos, and if you have a website post the link for that in a separate reply, I should get that. It won't show up here.
