The journey from the pilot episode to the shot of the F-302's and Prometheus rolling up shows just how cool the technlology progression has been on this show.
This is what i loved about the show. It shows the progression and growth as the show goes on, which males it unique when compared to other "star" series

Except not in the case of the F-302's which are basically just more maneuverable fighters that can work in space.
No energy weapons at all after 7 whole seasons of development and possession of examples of Goa'uld weapons from the earliest point of the show.
The whole episode with shadow SGC reverse engineering tech to send back through the gate is ridiculous considering this basic plot hole.

Honestly, the Battle of Antarctica is right up there with the Adama Drop, Talyn's Starburst and the Agamemnon diving through the flames in "goddam beautiful and emotive ship sequence" that will never leave my memory.
@Darkstar Okay, the Adama Drop is inarguable the most visually striking (it helps being the most recent CGI on that list)...but it also has the least narrative importance. It's just a cool trick to save the day, but it doesn't feed a character arc or tie into any overarching theme (if you wanted to say the Pegasus' last ride as testament to the story's tendency for recursive sacrifices and choosing family over expediency, then you'd have an argument.)
In the case of this shot, it's not just the charge of the X-302s into the teeth of the Al'kesh, it's the culmination of not just the last two seasons' focus on aerospace development, it's the culmination of the SGC's mission of gathering the tech needed to defend earth. Yes the fleet is doomed against Anubis' super-mothership. But this isn't just SGI pulling a hail mary or a deus ex machina out of their asses through pluck and determination (that would be the Ancient defense system.) It's human ingenuity, teamwork (and the military industrial compound) spitting in the eye of a false god.
@@saberstrike000 It has significant narrative importance as unlike the Cylon Raider's the standard Viper fighters all lack an FTL drive.
Therefore they needed a delivery mechanism to get them inside the Cylon's defensive net around the planet.
Honestly that always struck me as something of an unlikely mistake on the part of Adama to ignore (after obtaining the Raider FTL as a potential bluprint) considering what kind of strategic advantage Viper's with FTL would bring to a battle.
Love it when we see the chair and drones, and a ZPM. Also really like the hint to the Altantis theme at the end.

Everytime the battle starts in Antarctica, I get teary eyed. I don't why. I guess it's all those soldiers putting their lives on the line to protect SG-1 because they have so much faith in them. Freaking epic!
Also its the culmination of seven years of going through the gate finally paying off. We had small victories here and there and we lost many good people (Janet, Martouf, Skaara, Sha're, Narim) but this was Earth's moment to say "alright, you guys may be supreme but we're coming to play ball and we're not going to go down without a fight."
I've always loved this two-parter. It was originally released on DVD with reversible cover art, as it was treated like a proper movie. I know it was originally meant to be a movie, as they weren't sure whether SG-1 would continue once Atlantis was set to begin. It certainly feels like a movie and is one of the best-ever stories. Looking forward to seeing your Atlantis reactions, as I know you're well into them.
A lot of sg1 season finalies are so epic because they thought they were getting canceled. The one time they didn't think they were getting canceled was season 10. Oops! 😂

I think that was my favorite TV episode of all time; any show, any genre. Which is both a good and a bad thing. The F-302s and the Prometheus arriving in Antarctica was really well shot.
you can tell, when Jack puts his hand on Teal'c face when he says "Can you even understand me?" Jack is mimicking Master Bra'tac. Whenever the two Jaffa talk, Bra'tac touches Teal'c that way.
The real adventure of Stargate is the ( alien ) friendships they made along the way.

If you do start Atlantis, the first episode takes place after the second episode of SG-1 season 8. The premieres for both SG-1 season 8 and Atlantis season 1 are two-parters.
He has already finished Stargate SG1 and is currently watching Stargate Atlantis season 5.

Can I point out the character of Walter Harriman he is the man who has operated the stargate through the seasons and he is piloting the Prometheus into battle
The reason this episode felt like the end is because it sort of was.......
The producers were told by the studio at the start of the Season that the show had been cancelled and that this would be their last season, so they treated Season 7 like the final season and wrote and shot the finale like it was a series finale.
Only when they were most of the way through the season did they get word that the show had actually been renewed, but by then it was too late to re-write the finale and the final season episodes, so they just continued shooting it as the story was.
In fact you can tell by some of the characters' storylines that the actors thought they were not coming back for another season - and some had already even lined up other gigs and different jobs (you'll see from Season 8 how this manifests).
I kind of wish they did end it here... Hmm...

I was just youtubing clips of Atlantis, my oh my did they create some good stuff there, and I can't wait to see FW34's reaction to the members of the number 1 team, especially a certain Dr.
After this episode is where I started watching Atlantis side by side SG-1.
So glad to see you back! I was getting anxious to watch this reaction video, I figured maybe it would be a week or two after the last one but I kept on checking and no new uploads... I guess you took a little break? And ain't nothing wrong with that - always take care of yourself, family or whatever you got going on first! To this day, this is still one of my favorite episodes of a Sci-Fi series ever. I was probably 14 when this aired, and I remember being hyped as f*** about this season ending

I'm soo happy to see someone reacting to Stargate SG1, and hopefully you can get into Stargate Atlantis! This sci-fi series is incredible and I believe could still make a comeback if given the chance
One of the best episodes of all of Stargate, up there among the best episodes of scifi in general. I think it easily matches TNG with Best of Both Worlds or the final of DS9 to name a few. Lost City especially is great as a payoff for 7 years of development. It shows how the Tau'ri have gone from underdogs fighting guerilla warfare, always at risk of instant and total annihilation, to being able to fight off a full scale interstellar assault on their own. The powers in the galaxy take note as well, with everyone treating the Tau'ri as a galactic power from now on. This is not the episode which has Thor proclaim the Tau'ri the fifth race, but it is the place where the Tau'ri showed everyone they had what it took to be that.
The fight over Antarctica is outdone several times in size during latter seasons and Atlantis, but never in the emotion involved. It's the pinnacle of Stargate to me, and a large part of why many consider SG- 1 season 7 the best season of all of Stargate.
I loved the payoff from Inauguration here, and I think Lost City makes Inauguration a lot better in retrospect, as you see Hayes use the information gained in that episode, and you see the fallout from the debate going on in that episode, with Weir taking over and Kinsey trying to take over.
And as always this episode sets up so much for the future, ZPM's, drone weapons, Atlantis, Earth's new position as a galactic power, an entirely new galactic political landscape, intergalactic plot developments and so much more. For all the time it spent paying off on old things it also managed to be a treasure trove for future Stargate plot.
10/10 episode, the peak of Stargate in many ways, although many great episodes follow it too. I especially love the Reckoning and Threads two/three parter in Season 8 as well. Though it loses out on tying everything up too neatly which screwed the franchise over when they got signed for seasons 9 and 10, and left the writers scrambling for what to do.
The audio commentary for these episodes is really great. My sister and I even quote it.

Good to have you back! My favourite episode, it shows how much the Stargate Program has progressed, it started at nothing and we've been with them through every new metal and element, technology, prototypes, and ships, all the allies made and the knowledge gained and this episode was Stargate Program doing EXACTLY what it was supposed to do, what their standing orders are, to seek out technology that can help defend the world from Goa'uld, and that's goddamn delivered and in style. That's why Stargate is my favourite story, you see the progress and advancements as it happens. Also the shot of Gliders and Al'kesh facing the F-302s lives in my head rent free.
the Stargate Atlantis spinoff kicks off after 8x02 and takes place at the same time from here on out so I hope you'll watch that too!

After the episode the actress in the role of Dr. Weir will be recasted for the spin up series SG Atlantis.. The spin up was intended to replace the show but SG-1 was extended because public demand several seasons and Stargate Atlantis went paralel and made a couple of crossovers.
They treated it like the end because they thought season 7 was going to be the last, just like with season 5, 6 and 8.
Is this not the most hype episode ever, and moving in on Teal'c "Where is the lost city"... Oh my days, the hype is real "SGA" is here....

Just a few pointers. The two series needs to be in tangent with one another. So you have to have a two premiers to look forward to. SG-1 first then Atlantis second.

In Stargate Atlantis series ZPM is used for a lot different purposes: but mainly its for Shielding the Whole Planet - Ori,Wraiths, Goúald, Replicators etc none of this races with the technology would be able to see movement,a planet or anything on their radars

It should be mentioned that these episodes of SG-1 are what was known back then as a "backdoor pilot" for a spin-off series called STARGATE ATLANTIS. The actress who played Weir was immediately recast since she ended up being unable to commit to the new series. Both SG-1 and ATLANTIS ran at the same time originally with later seasons sharing storylines.. so buckle up.
