    I’ll never get over how the writers/cgi folks make the ancient weapons so perfectly different from anything we had seen before. It could have easily just been a giant sky laser, but they had the idea to make shining, firefly-squid drones! It was beautifully alien, in the best way possible.

    • @stevensanderson2817
      @stevensanderson2817 Před rokem +7

      Giant sky laser doesnt work well if you want it to be believable, firing from the surface takes tremendous power for the beam to not be distorted by the atmosphere and it would take time to charge between shots which would hurt it against multiple targets. Also energy weapons in the show get blocked by the shields whereas the drones are little ships that dont get blocked by the shields, they are basically invulnerable mini missiles that do kinetic damage. So the benefit of the drones is that they can engage multiple targets or vulnerable points on a large target at once, they only require escape velocity to break into orbit but can be used in atmo as well, and they totally bypass shields due to not being bolts of energy.

      Multiple seasons lead to this point. Season 1 ended with earth utterly DEFENCELESS against anything from space. This OG end of Stargate ended with earth being ABLE to fight back with tremendos force themself. I would even go as far as say that kamikaze run of the prometheus would have at the very least rendered anubis ship to heavily damaged to do anything realy.
      Later on with the real end of Stargate , atlantis did the same when earth exhausted all stuff they had against one single hive. So now earth is not only able to defend itself but also would be able, given they now have the power and ressorces and all, to build at the very least acient aurora class warships if they so wanted, wich they dont. The BC304 already is supperior and we know they build a fleet of them.

      @@christianresel8051 thank you for calling this the OG end of Stargate. It very much was IMO. I enjoyed season 8, too with Jack as General and Base Commander (the episode Zero Hour stands out), but I prefer to just pretend seasons 9&10 never happened, as well as pretty much anything beyond the first season of Atlantis. Neither the Wraith nor the Ori captured the same tone of nemesis as the Goa'uld or the Replicators. Anubis was the pinnacle of evil bad guy and watching him be obliterated, dying (we thought) screaming while the combined forces of Earth, the Tok'ra, and the Jaffa went into full scale battle was one of the greatest moments ever on television. We were cheering and shit, it was so awesome. Hammond just ready to literally drive Prometheus into Anubis's face (or lack thereof) is a testament to what a great man he was. I had the opportunity to meet Master Bra'tac in real life once and he was awesome. I always loved how much Bra'tac respected and admired Gen. Hammond.

    I think this is the quintessential SG1 scene for me out of the entire series
    The years' of buildup to get here: Earth not only having the tech & material to build a fleet capable of defending Earth but also the sheer size of the Stargate program to make it happen; a culmination of multiple alien allies and tech; and of course a solid build up of Anubis' power as the big bad who actually returned to Earth to threaten the planet for the first time since Season 1.
    Finally we have the writing which is just pure SG1 - techno babble, drama, and humor all mixed with a soundtrack and visuals that are so rooted in this series
    Sure the series continued on and the final fight to take out the Replicators is a close second, but those later fights were so large that this is the high point for me because it still retained that very basic premise of "SG1 saves the world" that carried the series for the first 10 years
