It feels appropriate seeing these pictures of old, abandoned places taken using an old camera from a thrift store.
cdl0 I agree - That factory by the train tracks closed down in 1990, just five years after this camera was introduced.
Looks like a super little Nikon point and shoot. Congratulations on the win! The 35mm, 2.8 is such a great focal length. Nice images too.

Jamie Maldonado Thanks Jamie! I’m planning on heading back up to this location to shoot again (before the last 2 buildings get torn down). Trade secret on the backdrop - It’s a free wallpaper I found online that I just used with a green screen. My green screen is literally a cheap piece of drywall I covered with a roll of green poster paper from Hobby Lobby. (Pretty high tech, I know)...

The lens on this one seems to be very nice, but the film and its grain is something really nice. Especially like the image @6:12, although I like many of the others too.
Like one of the other comments here abandoned is a great motive but I would add it is really sad that so many of these places have gone to ruin. It is easy to see it as just buildings; but it is a community that has lost its sustainability. Makes for wonderful pictures but disheartening at the same time.
Not trying to generate more work for you; but I for one would find a "talk over" video about some of these places very interesting. I've said it before but your images have a timeless quality.

Alex Jackson-Smith I’ve enjoyed your street work for some time and I’m glad I finally had the opportunity to reference your channel here. The image at 6:12 is one of my favorites as well. It is sad to see some of these once thriving places abandoned. In the case of the Westinghouse plant, over 8,000 people were employed there at its peak - it has been sitting vacant since 1990. If we can’t always bring these places back to their former glory, I suppose the least we can do is document them before they disappear completely.
I totally agree that it is the best we can do. As I often say to document the mundane that would otherwise go unrecorded. Not a single news story, but a trend, a collection of livelihoods that have gone. The spirit and pride of a community is often associated with their work and activities. Very sad.
Please do consider giving us an insight into the history with your images for context. I think by now you must have a powerful and timeless body of work for publication.

Very interesting.. I wonder how many versions of this they made.. I heard they made a much newer model that takes a strange battery and the flash is not a pop up one anymore but built in. Mine just says One Touch and still takes two AA batteries and that is a huge plus in my book :). Mine also has the slider that opens and closes the lens and turns on or off the camera and I do love that feature.. Mine does not have that digital section in the back for date and time and I guess only the AF model had the ISO dial and all the models after that has the DX detection or what ever its called .. Pretty cool and mine is like brand new and the lens and stuff is spotless so I after seeing what everyone else has been getting with there's my hopes are up there pretty high :). Thanks for pointing me to this video..
I love cameras that take AA batteries. I just picked up a Super 8 movie camera this week that takes 4 AA batteries - looking forward to trying it out. Sounds like you got a camera in great condition - have fun with it!

Great shots! TI notice there isn't a printed date on the final photos. Is this a feature you can disable on the camera? I thought AD meant it would auto-date every exposure.
Thanks - Yes, it’s easily disabled with a button on the back

Do you know the difference between the model AF vs the AD?
AF is threaded to accept filters, AD is not
but what´s the difference in the lenses, how much better is the original L35AF2 vs the L35AD2 ?
I have not seen any noticeable difference between the two (other than the capability of using threaded filters on the original).
hi! i’m a beginner photographer, and right now i see the l35ad on sale for $60 less than the af. i want to buy it, but i’m not sure if sacrificing the adjustable iso is worth it. what do you think?
monica. I wouldn’t worry about the whole ISO thing. I don’t push or pull film typically, so I can’t justify spending the extra $60 on the AF. The only time I manipulate the ISO is if I’m using expired film. If you stick to fresh film, the L35AD should serve you well. It is a great choice if you’re beginning and I think you’ll love it!
There are ways to hack the dx code. The AF series can only go up to 1000iso. With the right dx code hack you can have the AD shoot 1600 iso
My daughter just picked this up for a trip to Japan soon. Are there any good accessories you think would be good for her to have other than a new strap or bag? thank you in advance!
Extra batteries and plenty of film and she should be good to go!

Hi!! I’m new in film photography. I just bought a nikon L35AD2 as my first film camera (I haven’t used it yet) but I’m planning to swap it for a canon AF35M. Should I switch?
Jhuddyl I like the Nikon a little better for one reason - I have a Canon AF35ML, and I can see the lens barrel through the viewfinder. The Canon is a little noisier too. Both series of cameras are good though. Thanks for watching

Can you adjust the iso on the nikon l35ad iso 1000
The L35AD is the date back version of the L35AF, some of which went to 400, while some went to 1000. (I have the 1000 version of the L35AF). The L35AD2 has a DX code reader, and you can’t manually set the ISO.
@@theoldcameraguy thanks for the prompt response! Very helpful for someone who is new to all of this. So the nikon l35ad is pretty much the same as l35af but has the date back. The one I am looking at the iso 1000 can have the iso be adjusted.
Which one is better ad or af? :)
