    I have the original version of this camera an I love it. Your absolutely correct about the focusing system, you have to pay attention on what the camera chooses to focus on. Nice pics by the way and keep up the good work!

    I acquired an L35AF about 8 years ago. The seller took a lot of time shipping it. He must've realized it was very cheap. And it was: in today's money it cost me about USD7.00. I haven't shot with it yet and it is in my former hometown. I'm happy to know how good it is. This video is straightforward and taught me evertyhing I needed to know about this camera. Thanks a lo!

    I hit the shudder button one time and I think the camera accidentally rewound itself after i had already taken several pictures. I'm using a roll of Portra 400 35mm film I just bought yesterday. Will the images still come out good once developed?

  • @vhfgamer
    @vhfgamer Před 4 lety +3

    I've had mine since roughly 1998. The lady who gave it to me (for free) didn't quite understand that taking the batteries out while rewinding the film is a bad idea.
    She thought it was broken... and gave it to me to fix. And now in 2020... it's right here in my hand still functioning.

    • @Screwmane
      @Screwmane Před 2 lety

      How do you fix that, I got one that has the same issue.

    • @vhfgamer
      @vhfgamer Před 2 lety

      @@Screwmane All you have to do to reset the rewind mechanism and make the button pop out again is open the film door. But if you have film in there, you'll destroy it when it's exposed to light. So don't open the door unless it's in a film changing bag, or a dark room.
      Once the door has been opened, there's nothing else to do. Just close it, make sure you have your batteries in there, and rewind it like normal.

    • @Screwmane
      @Screwmane Před 2 lety

      @@vhfgamer yeah mine is not that simple, I open it and close it nothing changes. But I’m guessing it was opened once while rewinding the film back in. As soon as I put batteries in it it won’t stop rewinding. It doesn’t matter if it’s in the off or on position or if the film door is open or closed. The shutter button seems to be stuck down as well.

    • @vhfgamer
      @vhfgamer Před 2 lety

      @@Screwmane Hmm then you don't have the same problem I did. Maybe some of the buttons are stuck down? You could try putting batteries in, opening the door, and then gently poking and prodding at the buttons to see if they pop back up. Other than that, its dissection time.

  • @randallstewart175
    @randallstewart175 Před 6 lety +1

    Oh, you are much to hard on the Nikon's autofocus mechanism. Not only is it extremely accurate, but it's also the same as the autofocus system in the Contax T2 you used for comparison. My story on durability: Years ago, I bought one new as a gift for my mother, who no longer could see to use her non-autofocus point-n-shoot. She lost it one Fall. It turn out she had dropped it into a planter on her back deck. She found it next Spring when gardening. After a winter in the planter in the rains of Seattle, the roll of film processed okay, and with new batteries, the camera worked fine. Your mileage may differ.

    I bought one today and it had a film already loaded, the counter was at "S". I put new batteries in and rewound the film, when I took the film out it still had the leader out. should I put the roll back in or should I get it developed?

    • @filmfocused9759
      @filmfocused9759  Před 4 lety +1

      My answer might seem a bit lengthy but I want to make sure the camera operations make sense and I answer your question thoroughly. In short, all seems good and I would go and get the film developed. When the counter is at "S" it means that the camera back was open and no film was/is loaded in the camera. It was smart of you to rewind before opening the back but it seems like it was already rewound. Most likely what happened was, the previous owner shot through the roll, then rewound the film and forgot to take it out. When this camera rewinds film it will still leave the leader out of the canister AND will also only count back to "1" or "0" until the back is open, then it moves to "S". So no issues there whatsoever! Sounds like the camera is working perfectly fine! :)

    Any idea why the exposure range is? Does it have long exposure in very low light conditions?

    • @filmfocused9759
      @filmfocused9759  Před 5 lety

      Not entirely sure. I've yet to find a manual/information specifying the exact range of shutter speeds. But yes it does slow down the shutter and open up the aperture in low light. It also tries to use the flash whenever it thinks you're in a low light scene. Due to the camera having a built in flash I would assume that the slowest shutter speed isn't long enough for a typical long exposure. In short, if you want to do long exposures, this is not the camera for you. Furthermore, I would suggest not using film for long exposures. Unlike digital, film loses sensitivity to light the longer it's exposed, and has been shown to have mixed results, as well as significantly worse results in comparison to long exposures taken on a digital sensor. Hope this helps! Cheers!

    • @filmfocused9759
      @filmfocused9759  Před 4 lety

      Sorry Charles, I'm not too sure how to make the camera rewind without power. My best bet would be to press/move the two buttons on the bottom of the camera in hopes that they release the film advance mechanism. then you could manually rewind the film (If you do try this be sure to be in a light tight room with lathe lights off or using a film changing bag) Good luck, I hope you can find a solution that works!

    • @filmfocused9759

      Happy you enjoyed it! I mainly use this technique when I want to push B&W film i.e. Tri-x 400 or HP5+ to 800 or 1600. You could also use this technique if you're a fan of overexposing C-41 film like Portra or Pro 400H by one or two stops. I don't have the link on me right now, but there is a good article online I can share the link with you later today once I find it....maybe I'll make a video on how to do it too :)

    • @filmfocused9759
      @filmfocused9759  Před 6 lety +1

      Sounds like a fun experiment! In theory that would work, but only if the camera begins to load the film, for the second time, from the same exact sprocket holes that were used the first time. Otherwise, it would result in partially overlapping frames. (I'm pretty sure, you asked me this question on my instagram account as well, but I figured answering your question here would benefit everyone watching) Happy Shooting!
