  • In this video I review the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Lariat which is a step down from the top Platinum trim and sits above the base pro and mid-level XLT models. This video provides a full walk-around of the truck, interior overview, summary of specifications and a test drive.

    Great video, thanks for walking through the features thoroughly. Would love to see some videos on the screens and customization of the software. My truck is on order and it would be nice to get a preview of what to setup first, second, etc.

    Couple of thoughts:
    1) Every EV grille is what I call “solid” with not many air vents. Although I understand why, it is unsightly for me and the best bug catcher on the planet
    2) You own a Tundra so would like to see real world comparison on fuel vs electric cost. Meaning what is your avg cost to charge compared to filling up tundra for same distance.

      Yes the solid grille has been catching a lot of bugs and they stand out much more than on a real grille. The cost of the electricity is far below what I'm paying in gas prices but I'll definitely make a video on that at some point and a full comparison with the Tundra

      You'll definitely come out ahead with an EV if you charge at home. Out on 70+ mph highways expect around 2 miles per kwh. Paying $.31 - $.43 per kwh that's about $.16 - $.22 per mile, $16 - $22 per 100 miles. So if your paying $3.50/gal for gas that's around 16 - 22 mpge. Not that great because of the high costs per kwh traveling.
      But local 55 mph roads with some city driving can get you 2.4 miles per kwh. Charging at home at $.08 - $.12 per kwh Which comes to about $.03.3 - $.05 per mile or $3.30 - $5.00 per 100 miles. So at the $3.50/gal that's around 70 - 106 mpge

    Great start of a video, very thorough… I’d love to learn about real life charging for a 300 mile trip and above. What can be expected with available chargers in the cities that are your common destinations. I liked what you showed, kindly, just would love to see the five minute charging part of the review.

      I own a lightning platinum. I love it and since I only use it for local driving. I average 2.4 miles per kwh so that would be 314.4 miles on a full charge with my 131 kwh ER battery. But that's city and 55 mph highway driving. Interstate 70 mph driving you can expect 2 miles per kwh 262 mile range. And charging stations are few and far between. Also the ones available often don't work. One more thing about using the lightning for long distance driving, expect to pay $.31 to $.43 per kwh. Instead of the $.08 to $.12 per kwh that I pay charging at home.
      Another thing that isn't often discussed is charging at DC fast chargers are very hard on the batteries. So the battery probably won't last as long as mine, as I never plan on using a DC fast charger on my lightning.
      You might realize by now I wouldn't recommend purchasing a lightning if you want to travel a lot. Possibly more expensive than driving an ICE vehicle the same amount of miles.

    Is there a ‘dog mode’ like Tesla? Where it keeps the truck at a good temperature for dogs in the truck with the windows up and locked.

    Nice truck. I'm concerned how everything goes through the control panel [tablet]. My friend has a dodge with the same feature and when it went out he couldn't control his heat. At least Toyota has those options separated. I agree with your assessment on the milage, not enough.

    • @DrivenCompanion
      @DrivenCompanion  Před rokem

      Yeah thats a great point... a lot of critical features run through that system.

    I often wonder if these reviewers that I see of the F-150 lightning are getting compensated, since there are alot of negative reviews based on towing and battery issues especially in cold climates. Plus the resale values if you trade within a year or so.

    That infotainment system is so laggy. Sad to see that Ford can't figure out the user experience.

    230miles… nope. Not unless you’re going downhill for 200 miles. You’ll get 185 if you’re gentle. Towing something? Now you get 120 miles. You can keep that POS

      I haven't been doing much highway driving but for my normal driving habits I'm so far exceeding 230 miles on a charge

    • @AA-mk4pu
      @AA-mk4pu Před rokem

      @@DrivenCompanion that’s cool, 1st person I’ve heard say that. I haven’t heard of one getting over 200 in normal driving conditions yet

    • @pstoneking3418
      @pstoneking3418 Před rokem

      @@DrivenCompanion The highway driving is what kills it. 70+ mph you might get 2 miles per kwh. That's 196 mile range for 98 kwh battery and 263 for 131 kwh battery. Not to mention out on the road charging will cost $.31 - $.43 per kwh. Makes it even more inefficient. I also purchased my lightning to be used locally where I average 2.4 miles per kwh that gives me a range of 314 miles with my 131 kwh battery. And charging at home at $.08 - $.12 per kwh. Makes it even more efficient.
