I like these townhouse tours because they are similar to the houses we have here in Europe and similar to what I live in now, so it's nice to see how they get natural light to get through in a terraced house.
Knocked all the soul out of the building. What a shame. That hideous staircase was dated even in 2012. They just didn't get the balance right in terms of respecting the building and updating it to meet the needs of modern life. It lacks warmth in the worst way. Modern architects and designers are still too in love with a kind of clinical ambiance. Who needs a sauna and steam bath anyway? Training Olympic atheletes? For people with more money than sense.
Again at the rear double door to the back patio there is no vestibule making extremes of winter and summer sweep through the house without regard to energy savings.
Exactly, I agree! It should feature crystal chandeliers and wall sconces not recessed lighting and clean minimalist design . Unfortunately though the look they have designed here is what most people want today. It was probably a smart business decision to rake in the most profits. I would never want it though!
Blanca W, if you had the sound on it was one of the first things he mentioned... "ready for crystal chandeliers and sconces" ... meaning... you choose your own chandeliers and sconces, just like you would your furniture or lamps.
I like the house and its modern style. However I find that this house having an elevator is questionable; but at the same time unique and convenient. I dream this house would work well for my family and I. Very beautiful and modernized home.
LOVE IT! This was a flip not a restoration. I didn't see anything in there that was worth restoring except for the fireplace mantels and some of the staircases.
My thoughts exactly. Made it look like a corporate office. Ruined it. It would be too expensive to strip the wood moldings and take them back as they originally were. Who wamts to live in a house all one color?
+Gail Eato Nothing is made for the poor. Why are people content with being impoverished? Go to school do something that is hard as hell in science or finance and I assure you that you can afford a home like this. The American dream hasn't died, it just requires a degree now
Your correct in one aspect, a degree is a must, however with our economy going from bad to worse, having a degree or not is not going to keep u from losing your house. Today there are so many thousands lay off and have lost their homes. Along with that status, there are so many not able to work in their field they studied for, so on the flip side.there is no security in this system of things with a degree or not..... You can a job today and be unemployed tomorrow. So many people are from one paycheck to being homeless until it's not even funny.....its a sad reality
+Gail Eato Only 30% of people in the country have a college degree and roughly 30% of those people have a stem degree. A degree in health care, nursing for example can start you off with a 65k salary and with a masters easily lead to a salary above 100k. Stem careers also have an overall unemployment rate of 3%. The problem with our society today is that people are not majoring in the fields that are in demand. Getting a bachelors in art history or psychology, just isn't going to cut it. The demand isn't there. People have to make smarter decisions and choose to work harder to attain success.
+Gail Eato I will admit however that our schools aren't preparing kids for these high paying jobs. Kids aren't being prepared for math or science. That's why so many of them struggle in school. If our country seriously cared we would get rid of schools that destroy young minds. For example when kids are in elementary school they decide whether they are a math or reading student. That's nonsense. This stems from the teacher reinforcing this negative stigma that "you can't do it"
I love it so smart and inviting ......And for the comments of not being able to afford it........let's start using our minds to achieve greater things and look beyond the negative thoughts that plague you so. remember when you want , you get, when you desire, you achieve.
It amazes me everyday how something black people built and lived in is now so "sought after" by those who are not black. No one wanted to live even remotely near this area for the longest time, now THEY kick out the locals and make it ok to live in this here while increasing the price over 1000%. Gentrification at its best!!!
please, get another agent. the awful pretentious man does more harm to a beautiful property. be real, let people decide for themselves . SAVE as much as you can but make it your home, WELCOME is more than a word, it is . IT IS!
Pot lights? A backyard, and it is a yard, it isn't a garden, of concrete floor with brick walls and 1000's of windows looking at you ... how is this beautiful. It doesn't feel good at all.
That glass staircase is hideous and tacky. All the fittings and fixtures (including the staging) look like they were picked up at the flea market after someone in NJ decided to clear out their 1980s & 90s furniture.
The wood fireplaces should be painted out in white. The "garden" is mostly concrete. A nice house with the elevator making it very livable. I don't understand the modern staircase. They should have copied the original.
Adding to "NYC" playlist for contrast to other video that did it better. Not the worst. The floors are still nice. The outdoor spaces are also pretty good. Not everybody wants to live in the past. The ugle staircase. Yup. Sometimes there's not much left of the original house to restore. Sad. Be interest to see if they updated as it's now 2020. At least you wouldn't have to put much or any money into the plumbing, 😉. Seriously, it sounds like they upgrated a lot of that stuff one doesn't see.
its so so but the renovation looks quite cheap my friend had a spectacular town house on west 69 st with steam room, sauna double height living room....for 12mm should have an elevator. 71 is not the best street and not adjacent to central park so if it were say 10mm maybe
Dear MS Hi, How is everything. nice place, nice investment. Best wishes and Profound Regards. Zaheer Babar Warraich Advocate Islamabad (retd CSS officer 16th Common).
Too Big....I cant believe I said that. Doesn't seem to have that warmth of a home, at the same time its not out and out modern home. For some reason I don't like the layout of this one. I only liked the kitchen level.
Restorations are bringing to life in the era in which it was originally. The modern staircase and fireplace make it look too modern for it. When will people use things and aren't cold and modern in these older homes? Use things that are more in line of the year it was built and stop making it what its not. If you want a modern home then build one.
2:32 Telly bolted to the wall above the fireplace. How vulgar. The telly should be as inconspicuous as possible. (And besides, it needs to be at eye level when you’re seated or you get a cricked neck.) 1:28 Don’t run up that horrid staircase in your socks. It’s a broken leg waiting to happen. Overall, cold, harshly lit, and unwelcoming. What happened to all of the original features?
No vestibule. This will not keep winter wind out. The foyer should never have been combined with the front parlor. LEED certified is degraded with this floor plan.
Real estate investors ruined all the original brownstones of New York. Good grief. Who cares to live there now. Love the gritty New York and the people then. Now all snooty hipsters
Why do they always paint the wood? Why do they paint everything white? Just ruin it. How bland. Looks to much like a corporate office. There's no way that these beautiful homes could be made today. Lack of creativity. I always purchase homes from older people as it will still possess its original character.
this was a flip, NOT a restoration
But the outside facade characters are mostly preserved
I like these townhouse tours because they are similar to the houses we have here in Europe and similar to what I live in now, so it's nice to see how they get natural light to get through in a terraced house.
Really? Where in Europe do you live?
Wonderful job done updating this home. It's absolutely beautiful.
Knocked all the soul out of the building. What a shame. That hideous staircase was dated even in 2012. They just didn't get the balance right in terms of respecting the building and updating it to meet the needs of modern life. It lacks warmth in the worst way. AGREEEE!!!! here, let's whitewash the entire home. What a shame.
aerialkate
So true.
Ruined that place
All the original character is gone!
it's still a fantastic home but the original features would be that extra most want, the taste of old luxury.
Yeah they could have done a better job.
But the outside facade is mostly preserved
Nice wood flooring never seen this style of wood, nice glass handle stair case
Again at the rear double door to the back patio there is no vestibule making extremes of winter and summer sweep through the house without regard to energy savings.
Gut it. Start over.
Well done on saving those fireplaces!
Beautiful. I hope the family who lives here are enjoying ❗️
all this money and your next door folks got a ghetto window AC unit lol
Recess lighting don't belong in a home of this age. Way too modern and the beautiful vintage character is gone.
oh please
Exactly, I agree! It should feature crystal chandeliers and wall sconces not recessed lighting and clean minimalist design . Unfortunately though the look they have designed here is what most people want today. It was probably a smart business decision to rake in the most profits. I would never want it though!

B Stephens really?? Recessed* and doesn't* no, you don't belong there.
amazing home!!
I like the house and its modern style. However I find that this house having an elevator is questionable; but at the same time unique and convenient. I dream this house would work well for my family and I. Very beautiful and modernized home.
No Information on What elements were retrofitted to meet LEED certification.
LOVE IT! This was a flip not a restoration. I didn't see anything in there that was worth restoring except for the fireplace mantels and some of the staircases.
I love it, it's Beautiful.
Ruined all the historical warmth and replaced it with cold aluminum and steel.
HagaProten
I totally agree.
And that steel staircase is not even needed.
Agree , beautiful house . Hate what they did !!
My thoughts exactly. Made it look like a corporate office. Ruined it. It would be too expensive to strip the wood moldings and take them back as they originally were. Who wamts to live in a house all one color?
Oh please
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ love it!
a dream apartment!
i would love to live there, but its not made for the poor. i will keep dreaming, got to keep hope alive

Entry is done to a reception hall. A house of this standard does not receive people off the street to a living area.
Beautiful wood and perfectly accented. If I was a rich girl......
So nice!!!!
Why do the decor always fall short. It's a beautiful home with a bad furniture choice.
Artemist Grim ... it was CGI ..😂😂😂
Wonderful building, but this doesn't talks about the features that contributed to the LEED certification
oh, the puck lights.
"Restoration"? I beg your pardon.
I love it so smart and inviting ......And for the comments of not being able to afford it........let's start using our minds to achieve greater things and look beyond the negative thoughts that plague you so. remember when you want , you get, when you desire, you achieve.
and when you wake up....you see reality ;)
That's mine thank you iam flippin now good job
Love it
This space is adorable. Love it. This is the one.
You kind of hate to see the contemporazation of a historical space.
How sad they removed it’s soul!
So what did it sell for?
It amazes me everyday how something black people built and lived in is now so "sought after" by those who are not black. No one wanted to live even remotely near this area for the longest time, now THEY kick out the locals and make it ok to live in this here while increasing the price over 1000%. It’s just a dream for me, I love NY
The stairs and floors are horrible.
Wow!
please, get another agent. the awful pretentious man does more harm to a beautiful property. be real, let people decide for themselves . SAVE as much as you can but make it your home, WELCOME is more than a word, it is . IT IS!
I don't like it. It looks like it's made for someone who wants to live alone and hide from the world. Not inviting.
this listing is marvelous check It out

Just an address and day to move in are what I need
Real Estate for apartments is frustrating
That glass staircase is hideous and tacky. All the fittings and fixtures (including the staging) look like they were picked up at the flea market after someone in NJ decided to clear out their 1980s & 90s furniture.

A nice house with the elevator making it very livable.
I don't understand the modern staircase. They should have copied the original.
A bread warmer??!!?? Where do I sign? Cashier's check OK?
The only thing i dont like is the flooring but its still beautiful

Built in 1883, that’s pretty scary 🥶, so many creepy history behinds 😳
6 floors...an elevator??? 😳
Please remove the information banner at the bottom of the screen. Very distracting. We got it when it comes to whom to contact.

Absolutely hate the staircase!

Really nice place but I would imagine it's really expensive
would you now?
+letsunbox ONLY….lol
+makeithap yeah I would imagine this for 25 mill in new York mate.

I like it better if it was located in the more prestigious Upper East Side
How can wood-burning fireplaces be LEED certified? Wood-burning fireplaces is the most polluting of all among all the fireplaces.
Nice, but what a shame it cost a lot, I could live there.
Where's The Beauty of Yester Year?? No No! Way Too Modernized 😯
That dining room does not match the design of the house! Oh, i get it, they left the furniture they don't want when they moved.

Recessed ceiling lights and media room ........no thanks!
I’m British and even I think that voiceover is bizarre. It sounds like what a yank thinks is posh English. Creepy.

price?
Nice, but I'm happy with a simple life
THIS SHIT IS NOT A MANSION. MY HOUSE IN HOUSTON IS A MANSION.
Is the English guy supposed to sound cool? Last time I checked New York is still in the USA. The English guy is annoying.
Jay Burris it gives the listing that certain je ne sais quoi ... lol... Look up what that really means, it's funny and apt.
English people are ENDLESSLY annoying. Except me and select members of my family xxx.

I would have preferred a strong Bronx accent.

This would be an irritating home... wants the point of having all of those floorz...
Actually not impressed
HATED it !!!! Gutted all that makes on old house beautiful....
So realtor vids with fake british accent voiceovers are a thing now ? Annoying

Horribly ruined
To bad they painted all the wood molding. Kinda ruined the history of this place. Way to much white paint.

Hate it. Reset lighting is ugly, ugly. And that staircase is hideous. Only the outside is original.
Not impressed.
Ugly! Glass and metal have no place in any historic property.
