  • A leading figure of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party told DW News that Ukraine should not join the European Union. Beatrix von Storch also called for a halt to German weapon deliveries to Kyiv, an end to the fighting in Ukraine and the start of negotiations with Russia to cease hostilities.
The AfD deputy parliamentary group leader also shared her views on transgender rights, the results of the recent EU parliamentary elections and the upcoming regional elections in eastern Germany, where the AfD is projected to gain ground.
DW’s Chief Political Editor Michaela Küfner spoke to von Storch at an AfD party convention in the German town of Essen.

Wars ended by peace talks (Korea, Vietnan, russo-japanese,...) or surrender by one side (WWI, French-Prussian, WWII...). The situation in Ukraine ends: 1) Russian surrender - low possibility in near future; 2) Putin death - low possibility in near future; peace talks - some chance in near future.

German policy was that it is better to engage the ideological competitor than to isolate from them. This worked extremely well in Eastern Europe, where the spoils of market economy and the freedoms of a liberal society produced an enormous draw. It worked less well (on the surface) with China or, let's say, Saudi Arabia. However, it worked well enough to make iliberals like China, Saudi Arabia or the AfD forget that the current regime of international trade is based on decisively liberal principles as well as the dominance of the US. Do away with both, this is gone. It's very questionable if they'd ever be able to create an alternative based on their protectionist, isolationist stance.

There was no negotiating to be had for Germany and Japan in 1945, they were instructed to sign the terms of unconditional surrender and that was the start and finish of their involvement in the peace process. The winning sides then divided the spoils. Similar outcomes occurred after WW1 and the American civil war.

In any case, today's Russia is not the same as the communist Soviet Union. But many people don't seem to have realized that yet.
And did you know that this close connection between Germany and Russia has always been a thorn in the side of the Americans (and "Western powers") because they feared that together they could become a superpower. When NATO was founded in 1949, its first Secretary General, the Briton Lord Ismay, said that the alliance should "keep the Americans in, the Russians out - and the Germans on the ground".

Almost every statement in this interview shows the real face of the party, and it really does not seem like the media was inflationary at all. And I should say that this is a much better strategy: LET THEM SPEAK! The cunning of reason. The politician being criticized is not transsexual, but a man in women's clothing, a transvestite. He is also listed in the German Bundestag's electoral roll with his male first name - but it is punishable by law not to call him that. That is crazy and arbitrary. If he were actually transsexual and had undergone gender reassignment surgery, he would be accepted.
And by the way: In Germany, you cannot change your name or only under very, very limited circumstances. But recently you can change your gender once a year - just by going to the residents' registration office (a psychological report or proof of gender reassignment is not required) - and then your name too. That is crazy! And we will reverse it!
Every truly transsexual person should be helped with the reassignment, but things like this make the whole thing ridiculous and also harm people who really struggle with their gender identity and have serious psychological problems. They have to deal with the backlash caused by people like "Tessa Ganserer".

Excellent interview! Thank you for pushing them and asking the hard questions, and not letting them avoid answering as much as possible!

Talking from the both sides of your mouth. We need talks so we won't arm Ukraine. Genius. If Ukraine loses the war, why would Poutine talk with them? He will dictate, is all.
