Now I'm further on in the game and I have an Arabian horse, and the pre order bonus war horse but almost never use them because I'm so attached to my shire horse, so my tip would be make sure you don't get overly attached to your early game low stats horse 😂

    I don't see why ppl hunt the Arabian. Just mount your horse, equip lasso, get a decent speed, not to fast or you'll ride past the horse. And simply lasso, during dead eye if you need to. Calm and tame and your done in seconds. Did it for both my honorable and dishonorable load out.

      Try riding close towards it with full and fortified dead eye. The moment it takes off, aim then activate dead eye and throw lasso when you see the reticle turn red. For easier catch aim at the body not the head. It latches to the head regardless. Have to be quick though because once it get in the trees it get a lot harder to lasso.

  • @Crisjola
    @Crisjola Před 5 lety +96

    A couple of things I found out:
    1) If you're in the habit of taming wild horses, or "stealing" the ones the rival gangs and/or dead lawmen/bounty hunters lose in their death, it's worth having your main horse trail along behind you while you level up your bond with the tamed/stolen horse. Different breeds and coats sell for different prices, (so far the Mustang or American Paint sells the highest unless you find a rare colored Thoroughbred over a common Mustang/American Paint) but because none of them have papers you can't get full price+. The more you're bonded with a horse, the higher it sells for. Even "low end" horses like a Kentucky Saddler and Tennessee Walker will go for 7.50-ish dollars if you're at horse bond 2 and have a good rep at the stable. Your main horse will trail along behind you even if you bond with said temporary horse. You can't have more than one temporary horse, however, and if you're out of stable space don't take your rarest horse (the white Arabian for me) out as your temp horse and then try to tame another to see if you can just be a Horse Whisperer. I saved before trying and so I didn't lose my Arabian but I did lose the bond I'd built up once she became a temp horse.
    2) Always accept races. There is a good chance if you're in free-roam in the first chapters (where I still am, lol) that you'll win no matter what because of overly convenient obstacles that pop up because the game assumes you still have your starter horse. I was riding my American Paint and the moment I fell behind due to misreading a hairpin turn, birds flew up in my opponent's face. Winning that particular race made it so I bond with horses even while urging them to run.
    3) If you're having trouble lassoing a goat/stag/deer/etc to get that perfect pelt (with a rather gruesome up close and personal kill) try and run them into the water. It slows them down and unless you're straight up swimming Arthur will have to fight less to pull the animal in. Once it's dead if you can't get it up because it's floating away/too deep, lasso it again and drag it to shore.
    4) This might seem obvious but unskinned animals last longer than their skinned versions. Especially if you're trying to sell the meat of a perfect kill at a butcher but keep the pelt for upgrades at camp and you're far away from the town where people respect you.
    That being said, animals that have been killed/skinned and left don't decay so fast that if they are close to somewhere that they will rot in a day.
    5) Back to horses: since you'll be spending so much time with your main mount, (the black Arabian doesn't unlock until chapter 4), it never hurts to be constantly taming or stealing-ish horses. You can bond with them fairly quickly if you're constantly pressing L3 and cleaning them and it gives you a secondary horse to cart animals around on.
    6) Pelts stack on the back of your horse! (I don't know the limit, I've stacked 3 so far.)
    7) You gain honor for completing camp chores, which is an easy way to tick up that honor meter if you've had a bunch of encounters go awry or looting a long dead/broken down wagon is somehow… wrong.
    ***Personally Confirmed*** Your pre-order and special edition horses *should* always be "repurchasable" (for $0.00) at Valentine in they have died. It does, however, reset your horse bond back to level 1 (know this because I need stable space and I don't use my War Horse and don't want to sell my Arabian or my Paint.)
    Random note: Even if the Compendium gives you 100% on a horse breed, that doesn't mean you've actually *done* all of the things for that breed. I haven't ridden all of the uncommon/common varieties of the Kentucky Saddler/Tennessee Walker but I still have them ticked off as 100% in my Compendium. So for those of us who want to pull up a random horse and see 2/2 and 3/3, or whatever combination, in our Compendium, right now, it's "make a physical list yourself on your phone/notebook and check off the horses you mount up as you go because the game also doesn't tell you what you've already ridden."
    If anyone can tell what I've been up to beside the campaign, I'd be truly shocked 😂.

    • @Crisjola
      @Crisjola Před 5 lety

      Riot973 I wonder if it's because a lot of the hitches are around the various… establishments that people pass out drunk in/go to bed (hotels, saloons, etc.) I confirmed what the other commenters were saying, that the three houses to the north-eastern side of St. Denis that have a stable spawn in high level horses. I've seen a few of the rare horses there that can only be bought in later chapters, so I'm not sure if it's a spammy/shady technique to grab a horse there if you want it. (What I'm going to be doing with the Missouri Fox Trotter next time I see it.) I do think having no witnesses and the owner themselves being asleep helps a *ton* in snagging horses.

      I've had like 10+ pelts on my horse so I'm not sure if there even is a limit to how many you can store on the horse. The stack doesn't seem to get any taller after about 3 or 4 pelts. Just gotta be careful not to die or run into a tree cause you mightt lose them or they might fly off the the horse andd you'll need to pick them up.

      *Possible spoiler*
      Yeah, same. I did struggle with money for a bit, but I got to the stage where you move on to Lemoyne and then go back and rob the bank in Valentine, and ever since then I've never had issues with money. I bought all the camp upgrades and donated an extra $600 for good measure, I buy all the clothes I want, get my weapons detailed, pretty much spend whenever and wherever I want. Obviously I earn money from other jobs so it fluctuates a bit, but I never really go very far out of my way to do side activities and I've yet to drop below $2,000 since then.
      Of course, it's kind of ruined the game a bit - not because I can afford anything I want no trouble, but because I really have no interest in doing the side jobs. Why bother robbing a train or stealing a stagecoach or looting a house full of valuables? What, am I gonna get $70 or $80 on a good day? There's no point, it's such a pointlessly small amount of money it's pretty much killed my motivation to bother with that nonsense. Even already being able to afford anything I want, I'd still want to do those jobs if I felt they paid a decent amount - like if I got a few hundred per job I'd probably still do them even if practically they don't make much of a difference to my buying power, but having so much money just makes the rewards feel absolutely not worth the effort.

    Im only in Chapter 3, but, before I discovered their gang (and even after I killed them they remained undiscovered) I stumbled onto 5-6 KKK guys, at night, holding torches in the woods. I equipped my Lancaster with express rounds, went into deadeye, and killed them all just as they were reacting.
    When they fell, they formed a PERFECT cross on the ground. The two holding torches were the "arms" of the cross with their torches facing out.
    So after looking at them for a little while in awe, I threw a firebomb on their bodies and had a cross burning of my own
    It was one of those small moments that make the game superb!
    I should have recorded it because if ive learned anything from Eddie Bravo and Joe Rogan, "If it isn't on CZcams, it isn't real" 😂👌👍

    I've never seen anyone give this tip. When you're offloading jewellery (I don't take it to fence I donate to camp every few days and that pays for the upgrades) pay attention to the bit of writing under the name where it says 'can be sold for cash' etc. If it has the words 'can be used for crafting or sold' don't sell it as you might get to a point where ya need that earring or whatever to craft something. What I do if I got max capacity is ill keep two. Cos some of them like the earing you only find every now and again. Also try to keep your stuff don't sell for cash gild bars etc unless you need to buy something. You might get robbed or just fritter it away slowly by dying. Also when you give your satchel away it means (without a spoiler too much) that you got stuff to sell when your cash goes back to zero

    • @RKDriver
      @RKDriver Před 10 měsíci

      Someone calculated it out and you do lose a certain percentage of your cash during a "combat" death but also that percentage goes up if you keep dying by combat in that scenario. This was one of the best tips I've learned while doing my second playthrough as I had been selling everything as soon as I collect it.

    small tip...you can have multiple temporary horses follow you when you whistle. Use this to your advantage when you're hunting for large pelts as your horse can only carry one large pelt or animal at a time. This tip is especially helpful when you're hunting way up north or far from the nearest town/trapper.

    I'm quite late to this party but my first tip is to take a trip to West Elizabeth a little ways north of Strawberry and hunt the legendary whitetail buck. After you've killed and skinned the buck, sell the pelt to a trapper (There is one west of the legendary whitetail buck located near the edge of the map) Then take the antlers to a fence and craft the buck antler trinket. This increases the chances of 3 star wildlife which will come in handy for my next tip. Buy the necessary tools from the gang ledger so Person can craft items for Arthur and the camp. You'll also need to make the necessary upgrades to the camp so you can unlock various satchels. Then take an extended hunting trip and grind for every pelt you'll need to craft the Legend of the East satchel. This can be a very grueling and time consuming process but that satchel makes it extremely worthwhile. Happy hunting.

    That particular hitching post at 7:00 caused me a heap of trouble - thought I'd be good and hitch up only for my horse to be flattened by a passing trolley car; myself and precious pelt on horse go flying and before you know it I'm wanted for disturbing the peace - poor parking placement planning methinks.
    Tipwise I would suggest focusing on treasure maps early on as the gold rewards will rapidly earn more than enough money even without exploits - there are a couple of places without maps that yield a lot of gold too like the Strange Statues cave. And if going hunting for extended periods of time it pays to get a secondary horse (either tame a wild horse or steal one) and quickly raise it to bond level 1 (a feed, brush and pat or two should do it) so it will follow you around - now you can carry twice as many large animals or pelts back to shops

    1. Whistling Repeatedly will make your horse pick up the pace when going to you so you can get a quicker get away during times of distress.
    2. The Fast Travel Upgrade for your Camp works for your Portable Camp as well, making the 500 bucks worth it.
    3. You can Tie people up close range by having your Lasso out, and Meleeing the person you'd like to tie up. This is a lot faster than trying to Spin it, which will likely lead to a Miss, getting shot, and then having to hog tie them.
    4. Regardless of masks, Lawmen will recognize Arthur upon seeing him, which will give you a bounty. This Bounty is what changes things, and makes things much harder to get away with. Because of this, always make sure you can get away without being seen before striking.
    5. If you are stranded without your Horse, Save, load that save and it'll be right by you.

If you're low-level, you can run. But if you're already in chapter 4 and have some decent red eye, just find higher ground, look in their direction and they will stop to discuss things. Use your rifle and target practice them one by one as they ride towards you (and a certain gruesome death).

    Animals can be in poor condition before you shoot them. Always check the info on an animal cos a poor whitetail wont give a pristine pelt no matter what you use to bring it down. The info will also give you a recommendation as to the correct choice of weapon and ammo to use. Also for a few of the larger animals you can lasso them and then you will be prompted to kill it once you've reeled it in far enough. This is also a great way to get perfect pelts, but some animals are either too large or too dangerous and while you can lasso them, you wont get a prompt to kill them. For legendary animals simply use the best gun you have as no matter how many or what size holes you blow in them you always get the pelt to use at the trappers and the trinkets to turn into talismans. Luckily this includes the scenario where you killed the animal and skinned it, then have your horse die and yourself die. Simply give it an in game day or two and the trapper and fence will have the parts as if by magic.

    If you wait for a train to stop, then point your weapon at the train operator and tell him he's being robbed, but run off a ways before shooting anyone, almost everyone on the train will flee. You can go to the safe/s and blow them open without having to kill anyone or get a bounty. A straggler guard might show up, but if there is only one or two, you can kill them before they get help. This is probably a bug...or at the very least a way to cheat the game logic.
    You can also put dynamite on a train track and blow it up right as the engine nears, thus disabling the train. Same thing with stage coaches and such. Great ambush tactic. I see this being used well with group tactics in online mode.

    I found out that you can do 3 things at once while cleaning your horse. Find a lake or a deep stream. Have Author take a minute swim. Side note: swim close to the banks at first or you will drown. This minute swim will raise Author stamina really fast. But once you get pass stamina 8, 75% full. The swim takes longer to raise your stamina. But you are able to swim over a mile in deep water without drowning or taking anything to regain stamina in the water.
    While you are waiting for your stamina bar to get full again. You can get on your horse and have your horse take a swim and get clean at the same time. You are not using any stamina. So your bar is still getting ful. While you are out there swimming on top of your horse. Work on your horse stamina in the water. Yes it takes a lot longer, but OMG the distance the horse can do afterwards is amazing. I ran into an race on the road afterwards. I dusted him at full gallup through the whole race. My horse was only half outside stamina bar when the race was over.
    Back at the lake, when you take your horse out of the water. You go back in for your minute swim. Come out and brush your horse as your stamina is regaining strength. Rinse and repeat until you like your stamina bar. You have great stamina, a super clean horse and a super bonded horse. You can pet the horse as your horse is swimming. You can't feed it though, but Dah.

    Added tips for hunting - Using poison weapons on legendary hunts will really help in slowing the chase if you’re not too skilled yet on placement shooting. Also, lassoing large animals and approaching close will trigger a “Kill” option in which Arthur will cut the animals throat and prevent losing quality on the pelt. And this is a huge omission on your part. I made the mistake of selling a silver necklace there which i later needed for a trinket and could no longer find. Trinkets give you very powerful and permanent buffs.
    People should FIRST check the "craft" option at the fence, and make note of the jewelry needed for crafting to avoid selling those.
