    I’m a gringo living in Ecuador. My Spanish is ok, but I really had a tough time with the way the Uruguayans speak Spanish (the Portenos even worse). But I always felt that the best Spanish is spoken by the Colombias. With your video I didn’t even have to read the English subtitles. Loved Uruguay, especially the Mercado restaurants. The chivita sandwich almost gave me heart attack.

    LOVE this video!! I'm considering a few places for retirement, and this is by far my favorite. Questions: As a black American female over 50, would I be safe there? I am trying to find a more tolerant country, and I've heard wonderful things about Montevideo! Also, I would need great internet service. Thanks in advance for your help!

    • @SoundCroquette
      @SoundCroquette Před 3 lety +12

      Hi! Im Uruguayan and I must say that overall it is a really safe country, it has the most stable economy in Latin America and is considered one of the most advanced in matters of human rights. Though personally I believe that we still have a lot of work left to do (since the majority of the country is formed by Iberic european descent, around 84%) in matters of race and empowerment, there are strong collectives and communities by african descendants and the legislation are written to create equal opportunities for everyone. Since you are planning to come here for retirement I don't think you'll find any problem. Also If you are getting your retirement in us dolars, that may benefit you since the price of the dollar is always on the rise compared with the value of the peso. I'm saying this because Uruguay is a pretty expensive country compared with our salaries. If you have any other question don't be afraid of sending me a message! xoxo

      Hi Sandra, if you moved to the coast of Montevideo (Pocitos, Punta Carretas neighborhood) you will find a safe place and with all the comfort a developing country can offer. Usually Uruguayans are not racists but you know always there are stupids around. But in my opinion racism and xenophobia are not the rule. As an Uruguayan who have lived many years abroad I would strongly recommend you to learn some Spanish. Although younger people tend to speak more English people over 50 not very frequently speak your languish. Good luck and all the best!
