I like how Dr. Dray can switch from being like "us," super giddy about cosmetic dermatology that give you a confidence boost but remaining firmly as a Doctor, when speaking in-depth about the product. The human side of holistic medicine is refreshing. Thank you, Dr. Dray.
I’m not sure if someone else has mentioned this. It’s important to note that this stuff can easily clog up your drains. If you wipe off with disposable cloths, like baby wipes, and then rinse residual in your sink, it’s okay. Otherwise- your sink will get clogged up fast! 👍🏻
yes! don't wash it off in the sink! i should have mentioned that 😫
Even if u do once a week?
Melanie Dalton yeah I’m afraid I’ve already ruined my pipes 😢
They really should put a warning on the mask container!!!
Uh .
"white rice on its own is kinda bland"
Me, an Asian: you take that back
Ha, that's funny!
Im asian and i kinda...agree??
Basmati rice is pretty delicious on its own. Jasmine is okay. And regular rice is bland af.
It is. But rice and PEAS. Changed the game
Notyouraveragequesadilla no it’s isn’t . Not in American culture or European
I don't mean to sound all country bumpkin but, after applying it on my back, would it better to hose it off in the lawn instead of letting all this clay go down the drain?
Hey..whatever works. 😂
Yup! It'll clog drains. I rinse mine in a bowl then use it to water the boxwoods 😂
The Hee-Haw method.
That is exactly what I do! Although my dog thinks I'm playing in the water and wants to join in. Lol
Rhys Jones using water from a hose on your body will *_not_* cause stretch marks.
I mix it with pure rose water and vegetable glycerin to make a thick paste. It's quite nourishing and hydrating without losing its oil-absorbing and detoxifying properties. Thank you for a very informative and comprehensive review. God bless.
I have glycerine, thanks for the tip.
I WISH YOU WERE MY BEST FRIENDS DR.DREY! I am a registered nurse that works for a massive medical group and NONE of out Derm Docs are as amazing as you ! Keep it up!
Yo u are so pretty ur profile pic is so cute
Youre so pretty!! Love the makeup😊😁
@@urchocolatecake3025 y'all kinda look similar 😅
@@urchocolatecake3025 🤡
I use this mask almost every day, mixed with hot water. Using very hot water is the key to getting a smooth paste without using ACV. It draws all of the impurities out of the skin. I have papular pustular rosacea and while it seems to exacerbate it when you first use it, it clears my skin completely when I use it every day.
Nice!!
Please don’t use it everyday. In the future it will dry out your skin. Just use it once a week and at most twice a week. That’s what it says on the instructions! 🙏 😭
How hot would you say boiling hot?
As a person who has done a lot of plumbing in my life, my only concern would be putting a lot of this down the sink drain.
yeah you dont want to do that...likewise dont ingest it
JJbcam69 you’ve mostly likely also seen the results of using coconut oil as a first cleanse and washing it off. Over time can do some major pipe clogging as well as it solidifies at 76 degrees. People often don’t think about that.
JJbcam69 I learned this the hard way years ago, luckily in university....
an easy rinse outdoors shouldn't be so hard :)
@@kareni8640 saw this before I ruined my drains. You learn something new everyday huh
Not related but tried an urban decay lip gloss at Sephora and it immediately was tingly like mint.
Girl I took that off so fast because, you know, those peppermint essential oils have no role in skin care and can be very problematic
You’re in my head
You shouldn’t have even put the gloss on you know how many women just apply directly from the tube? That is problematic lol
You did not try a public tester on your mouth - did u?
@@zvezdapadalica15 and on hands etc 😪
Barbi Love she did, she is worried about essential oils and not about the millions of bacteria from all the people swatching 🙄
Pandora peppermint oil is not bad for the face
You can use it to brighten and fight acne
You just have to use it with a carrier oil or lotion
Just because it tingles doesn’t mean it’s going to cause irritation lmfao
You are so resourceful. Free education seriously. I wonder if you ever touched down on botox and fillers and since you say there is no such thing as anti aging then maybe explain the injections/surgery routes?
@Kristy Kelly thank you I just found the entire series.
thanks; yes
I have a couple of video request: burts bees products, jade and rose quartz rollers, and raw shea butter. For the rollers, are they useful, do they play a role in skin care, etc. for the raw shea butter, what should we be looking for? Like color wise, consistency, how it's made to be efficacious, and its benefits. Love your videos
+1 vote for Shea Butter!
I use shea butter and love it ❤, if you do decide to purchase some, look for unrefined shea butter, mines a light creamy yellow color, it should also have a slight nutty aroma to it, tip: you only need to tiny bit, a little goes a long way with shea butter 😁
Yes I'd like to know about the rollers too!
Quinten Tutaki yes for sure! I got some off eBay and it was a dark yellow with a strong nutty smell. But I want to know if it’s legit and what to look for. Yes it does go a long way. Too much = too greasy fried chicken lol! :)
I get unrefined shea butter from Amazon and make my own body butter using the shea, coconut oil and almond oil. I also rotate the coconut oil with cocoa butter.
I've been using this mask for several years. Its my favorite mask. My skin feels baby butt soft. Yes I recommend this to my customers but I tell them just use water not acv. So glad you reviewed it. I love it!
What kind of skin do you have does it dry your skin I have eczema on my face
But the Aztec xlay powder doesn't mix well with water :((
Well well u have to use acv cause ckay itself is too much basic and when acv which is acid will balance clay powder thus making your skin ph balance.
@@dipti3463 my skin is sensitive tho
@@charrr7136 you aren’t mixing it well then
Thank you for the history lesson! I'm very much into antiques and vintage. Now when use this mask, I can say that I am using something that is period correct.

Bentonite clay is a component in clumping kitty litter. 🐈🐈🐈
yep
I was at a pet store the other day and they tried to sell me litter made of green tea. No joke.
So you're saying that's a dupe?! Hahaha kidding

Angel Dively PETCOsmetics!
I've been using the aztec clay for about 15 years. I love it! Never thought to blend it with green tea. I'm going to have to try that.
Did it help with acne and scars?
@@mamtaarora7174 I'm not sure about scarring. The only scar on my face is from when I was 3 and that is now barely noticeable. My mom (a nurse) used to pop open a vitamin E capsule and apply it to my skin every day and I did that in my early adulthood as well. The clay mask has definitely helped clean out my pores and remove dead layers and dullness. I love that it's not full of other ingredients.
I’m so happy I found your channel! Finally an informed professional who’s own proof is in her pudding! (Your skin is flawless and so beautiful!) ❤️ it’s hard to listen to skincare advice from people who don’t have perfect skin.
9:30 My inner Indian got excited when she mentioned besan (bay sun) 🤩🤩🤩 Love from India
Shut up in India we call it "gram Panchayat"
I haven't used a clay mask since I was in high school, Queen Helene's Mint Julep was THE mask of my teens, lol (I'm 48). I'm considering getting this for my 15 year old daughter and I. She gets acne during hormonal fluctuations she may like this.
peony70 I was obsessed with that mask when I was 15!
@@thatsathingrebekah yep, it was awesome! I looked up the ingredients, it does have the same active ingredient as this mask along with a lot of other ingredients. My daughter has sensitive skin so the Aztec mask might be a good alternative.
peony70 I did the same thing! The only negative really seemed to be the fragrance and dyes. But with the glycerin in there, it's likely to be a lot more hydrating/comfortable than just clay and water!
peony70 memories! I can almost smell it now. 🤣
I still use that bad boy. It’s moisturizing enough I sleep with it on.
I love this stuff! I bought it a month ago and it leaves my skin so smooth!
I LOVE that you provide references in your videos! It is professional and trustworthy. It's also comical in the sense that you give your beauty and health expertise in the same public discourse as a "beauty guru" so to speak, but it's like BOOM - here's the actual facts LOL! Plus I like to read more about the info you give us. Ty Dr Dray!
She’s so pretty and has such naturally gorgeous skin .... not to mention SHES SO INFORMATIVE
My daughter has been using this for the past month and WOW her skin looks amazing! Her acne is almost completely gone. She uses daily.
Daily wat?everyday u mean?
Does she use acv or water?
NO!!!!! In the future her skin will be very DRY !!!!! No, no is not good for daily use maybe twice a week maybeeeeeee
I think it's high time for some updated am and pm routines methinks! 😁
Leen Marie R oh yes
Agreed!
I actually bought a jar of this due to all the positive reviews but have never used it. Seeing your video illustrated how simple to use this is. I'm up to finally using it now! Thanks
This mask actually looks like something I'd like to try
I'm moroccan, and I also use moroccan red clay/rhassoul clay. I find it works the same as the bentonite clay. Also, thank you for the green tea tip! Will definitely try that out.
Where do you get the red clay from? 🤔
@@anghellbeth Normally I get it straight from Morocco, but the one I'm using now is from IHerb!
It's by the brand Now I think.
I have rhassoul clay powder which I mix with 100% matcha powder and water. It is more softening and thanks to the matcha my skin is bright.
I prefer rhassoul clay to bentonite. Bentonite is too drying for me whereas rhassoul purifies without leaving my skin feeling dry & stripped. It works great on hair too.
I use this all the time with apple cider vinegar. But now ima try it just with water.
I do really love this mask, it does wonders for my acne
you really shouldnt use it with water. the clay is basic and the resulting mask will have too high a pH which has the potential to really mess up your skin. im honestly kind of shocked shes using water. yes ACV on its own is way too harsh but when mixed with the basic mask they neutralise
When using AcV does it have to have the mothers in it? Or can it be the regular Acv ? Thanks
@@melm6575 use it with the mothers
Pls how often do you use it?
This makes me happy lol. I just used it with acv and then watched this and was afraid lol
When I use this mask with water, I find it gets really stiff/hard as it dries. Removing it can be difficult as well. I've been mixing the mask with honey instead and it works much better. Great for breakouts as well.
HK77 such a great idea! Never thought of that!
Honey is a great idea! I normally mix my clay with Apple cider vinegar (I really can't stand it with just water, I don't know why) but next time I'm going to try honey! Thank you
I just use before my shower to help remove
It is great at clarifying the hair.
Try adding a bit of plain yoghurt also.
I found that using this mask with water and a few drops of tea tree oil works better than apple cider vinegar. But I loved the video ❤️🖤

I developed an allergy to a makeup product with bumps and rashes that didn't want to go away, through recommendations i decided to try the clay, it worked like a dream on my skin and really helped clear my skin, I only used with water but have recently been mixing with ACV with no problems. I use once a week and my skin has improved.
I have been using this mask for years, love it! I sometimes mix it with apple cider vinegar, my skin is ok with that. Never thought to mix it with green tea, will try this next😘
LOVE how you explained what it actually is, where it came from, what it does and what’s it in.
I'm so glad I found you I was really about to drop hundreds of dollars on dermalogica products but because of you I found more affordable cleansers that won't hurt me :)
You look so good. Ugh I am seriously patiently waiting for my skin to start healing more.
thank you
I LOVE this mask. Have used it for years. I love mixing it with honey to make it easier to rinse off. I also like mixing it with plain Greek yogurt and milk.
I’ve also used this for many years and enjoy adding dry oatmeal to the mixture for some added hydration.
I had a chemical burn on my under eyes from a cosmetic product and I used this mask on it a few times and it really helped to accelerate the healing process. Thanks for the video!
My sister has psoriasis and does organic acv rinse and it works wonders for cleaning her hair and keeping irritating flareup under control.
Such a coincidence doc Dray. Just bought a whole jar recently. Thanks for the heads up on the use of acv. I was hesitant already to use the acv.
Where I'm from in Indiana we have a beach that has a natural clay pit(grey just like this) back in these kind of woods on the beach and everyone goes back there and covers themselves and play in the clay and let it dry and wash it all off in the water. Your skin feels so soft after and it's so much fun. It's a locals thing 😜

i love this mask. i used to use this only mixed with water. however, i like how i can get a smooth texture with acv. Really helping my acne :)
So I have been reading up a lot on this mask specially on ACV vs water. The reason ACV is recommended is because when mixing with the clay the PH of the mask settles to a 5 which is about the ph of your skin where as the ph with water is 8 which is too alkaline. The ph of ACV is typically 3-4 which can cause chemical burns. The clay and ACV balance each other out. This all being said I’m not a doctor, dermatologist etc but this is what I have gathered from reading a lot of tests people have conducted on this mask specifically.
The dermatologists at Doctorly tested this out with pH strips and mixing it with pure apple cider vinegar was too acidic. They determined that you have to mix 1 part ACV to 5 parts water and then combine that with the clay powder in order to reach pH of 5
i know water is neutral, but still too alkaline for our skin… i didn’t realize the clay would make it even more alkaline lol. this is a good point, but definitely acv still has to be diluted with water 😅 i don’t have acv or this clay mask but i’m suffering from bad acne rn so im considering anything at this point

I'm glad I randomly got a pixie product in an ipsy bag about over a year ago. Been repurchasing ever since. It's the Pixie Glow Tonic toner.

Aylin Calixto i swear by my glow tonic toner!
Aylin Calixto i’ve always wanted to try that toner! looks absolutely gorgeous. kathleen lights introduced me to it, and a lot of other great pixie stuff

I personally have had good luck using ACV in the clay however I will continue to do so hearing your words “proceed with caution “. Thank you for your expertise Dr Dray. I love your channel.
Doctorly tested the ph of this with acv vs just water, and they said the best ph for your skin was with using 1 part acv to 2 parts water (and all that will be equal to the clay). I don’t know if anyone is reading this two years later, but just in case….

This used to be my jam. I would mix a little bit of apple cider vinegar with the water just to help it mix better and not be lumpy. I noticed smaller pores in the t zone and less oil throughout the day when I used it.
@@faryalnasib8658 I used it on my t zone a few times a week in the morning before i applied my makeup. It helped me be less oily so the makeup stayed on better.
I had read that Moroccan Red Clay (Montmorillonite) was better for acne prone skin. I went that route with and purchased the Now Solutions brand months back. I have been enjoying it as well. I would expect these two are very similar.
Wonderful video! Thanks for your review, Dr. Dray! Would you consider doing an updated night time skin care routine? Or just a general skincare products recommendation video?
I found that adding the slightest pinch of salt - like literally a few crystals of it to the mix - helps to blend the paste to a more elegant and smooth final product
This mask was a life saver for my skin in high school. Around junior year I had these awful deep pimples on my forehead and sides of my nose and chin. My mom bought me this after reading reviews on it and it seriously helped. I honestly think it saved my skin. Hi Dr. Dray! I was wondering if you could possibly do a video talking about Formaldehyde in cosmetics? Specifically the different types of formaldehyde/formaldehyde derivatives used in beauty products, and what the science says about it’s safety and efficacy in cosmetics (including nail polish!).
Great suggestion. I'd also like to learn more in depth about common categories of ingredients, like alcohols, silicones, parabens, sulfates, etc.

As Indian we have grown up using fuller's earth clay and rose water on face and it does wonder. some times we mix with little turmeric powder in it.
I have very oily skin, especially in the summertime, and decided to give this a try a year ago and I really like it! I don’t use it consistently enough to say that it shrinks pores, but it does noticeably lessen sebum production when my skin is at its worst. Especially for the price, I recommend it. I’ve tried it with just water and with ACV (before I started watching Dr. Dray) and honestly didn’t like smelling the ACV the whole time the mask was drying, plus it made the clay thicker and irritating. I might try it with green tea, though. Also, as someone else said, it can clog drains because it doesn’t disintegrate into nothingness like other masks do when you rinse them off. I have a little mask mixing bowl set I bought on Amazon for $4 that came with a paddle-like spatula and I use it to scrape the clay off and toss it in the trash, then rinse with a cloth. Oh, and it comes off my face SO much easier than other clay masks I’ve tried! No residue left on the washcloth, either.
:)
I love it but only use it when my face is breaking out uncontrollably. Thanks for the review!
Your skin is looking especially nice lately! Would love an updated skincare routine. Thanks for your informative reviews. This reminded me that I have a jar of aztec clay, but it expired in 2016! Guess I need to pick up a new one. By the way and off topic (hope that's ok), your teeth look great! ;) I want to get mine done eventually.
I just dug my jar out and it expires this month!
expiration dates are a scam to make you buy more!
It’s dry mud it’s not going to go bad. They are just required to put a expiration date on.
Does it really not expire? I got mine out and it expires in March, it’s not even half used.
@@lurmro3 It's dried material already and needs to be reconstituted.
I've been using this clay mask for a couple of years. I really like it. I prefer it with the ACV more than water. The consistency is better. It mixes more smoothly than with water- where it tends to be clumpy.
I don't have acne but it make my skin feel and look smoother and clearer. I've added essential oils as well (tea tree, rosemary, lavender, or other) to create a more complex mask at times. I wonder if the green tea would provide and antioxidants to the mask.
I feel dumb, but what is ACV? I'm considering getting this mask to try out, I love mudd masks.

Aztec itself says that redness is normal and it will eventually leave the skin after 30 mins.
Actually the ph of bentonite clay is 8-9, which is far too alkaline for our skin, so mixing with vinegar actually makes the ph more suitable to apply to the face, as our skin is naturally slightly acidic. If you mix with water the ph of the clay will still be alkaline and will mess with the ph of your skin. I found just with water the mask made my face itch and with vinegar it was much more comfortable, even though I have very sensitive skin.
Robyn Richardson was looking for this comment!
Robyn Richardson I wonder why she recommends it with just water 🤔
It might be the tightening effect the mask has it says on the packaging " feel your face pulsate" because when it dries it tightens and it is supposed to bring more blood circulation to your face, it really is deep cleansing, best thing for blackheads and to bring stubborn pimples to a head
You really did your homework on that product!
I don’t understand. isn’t it too harsh on the skin with just water? Due to it being alkaline?? Would it not be better mixed w something more acidic such as honey, acv, etc?
This is actually the only mask I’ve been able to use with my sensitive skin .. love it.. also my hubby skin clears really well with it.
I’m skin is usually so sensitive that I’ve only been able to use eye cream as a face lotion. And this mask.
Other face cleaners dry my skin instantly in many layers.
Finally a doctor recommended water 😊 i have been thinking about using this clay mask but doubtful about adding it to an apple cider vinegar so WATER IT IS
Can you do a review on shampoo in a bar soap form? Their on Amazon it's for zero waste I want to try it but I want your honest review please.
I love this stuff! I use it once a week, it's lasted over a year. I just use it on my face.
Oh I’m going to try this out!! Great review! 🤙🏻❤️
Can you please review P50 Lotion by Biologique Reserche
I concur! I was just looking for a Kiehl's review on her channel ;) Please and thank you Dr. Dray
do u know if she mention it in any of hers videos?
Heyyy i would love to see a review on Lush products!
My layman's review: No. Just no. A plethora of essential oils and fragrance. I've tried three products from them that I've had to toss or pass on.
🤣🤣🤣
For anyone wondering why Dr Dray wouldn't recommend Lush, Lush's products contain a lot of essential oils also known as ( fragrance ) which she highly recommends avoiding due to the fact fragrance is problematic and serves no purpose or benefit in skincare. 💯
Matija M you are so right about the strong smell. My husband has severe asthma and cannot go in their stores.
georgia charalambous oh god no! Lol you can smell that store from outer space! Way too much fragrance! I used to shop there all the time and stopped because their products are like mixey-foodie brunch cocktails and gimmicky
Am planning to try this mask with freshly brewed green tea as per your recommendation.
i just got this and i’m gonna try it tonight after leaving bha on my blackheads for 20 mins, hopefully it works.
It is good for dry skin too, you just use more water and never let it dry on your face
I love this clay! It works great as a spot treatment for developing pimples for me. I’d apply a small paste (just with water) to the affected area, let dry and then rinse off. I’ve never had a pimple fully developed from using this method.
Can we use with benzoyl peroxide.... How much in a week u ised
Every single video you has made so far its been really helpful, thank you
glad to hear
I use this every once in a while and I just add water in my palm then add it to a pimple and go to bed. It works amazing and it lasts forever. I also did a mask for my mother in law for dark spots where I added turmeric to this mask and apple cider viniger but only for dark spots it's not a mask I would do often at all. Tea would work instead of vinegar for a calming mask.
