I don’t remember if you explained how you calculated the size of the plenum but can someone explain it to me how you calculate the size of the return and supply plenum
I bought mine from a major A/C and Plumbing supplier located in Tampa. It probably depends on where you live. Home Depot carries it but only in certain states....They don't in Florida.
Dude, harbor freight has a three foot brake that will make excellent plenums. A quarter inch for the hobo, and a inch and a quarter for the homemade pittsburg . Then instead of all that bullbshit fiberglass blowing everywhere , cut a big square out of metal and leave one inch on every edge so you can bend them over and use s locks to cap the box. If you're going to use plenums, jesus, at least use metal ones. If your installer isn't using metal transitions, they're not a professional. They're not. They're someone who's making money.
Yes, it takes a lot of skill to do ductboard and some in the trade, especially newbies/apprentices go with prefab aluminum plenum's. Depends on your skill level I suppose. You keep at though and some day you'll know as much as I do.....
If you say so. Duct board trash. There no structure to it. Just adds to air loss and critters getting into your duct work after time. So sure mock my skill level. But I won't ever give my customers shit work or something that will lead to problem over time and use.
That is your opinion. The facts say otherwise. I think you are limited to what you know and have learned that's local to your area. Ductboard is used extensively in the southern states and most in south Florida. It is used extensively in commercial building where codes allow. It has many, many advantages over aluminum. Critters? Never seen or heard of it. They're usually busy tearing up the loose insulation. If you're talking about crawl spaces then that's the installer's bad because they should never be used in an open crawl space. You have much to learn, Grasshopper.....
This grasshopper fine with sheet metal. I'm not a tin knocker for nothing. Duct board sucks yo water like a sponge. In southern cali there no need for that shit. Like I said. Critters get into for the warmth in the winter. For some dumb reason the home owner pipes breaks the duct board sucks up all the water. I'm not into a duct board repair. So go ahead talk shit. Watch in 5 years you'll get call back for no air. Sounds like a personal problem to me. I put passion for my customers.
Don't call yourself a hvac guy if you use ductboard. Moisture is going to wick off the coil for one , so as soon as the moisture hits that ductboard , what's going to happen? Wait!!! We will spray chemicals on the fiber board to battle the mold. Yes. That's the answer. Why? Because we are so fucking lazy and so cheap we aren't going to use metal. We aren't. No. For one, we don't know how, and we aren't going to lower ourselves to that level of having to pay someone to make metal. Dude. You know better than to use ductboard. You know better. You do. You know better. You must be cheap and there isn't enough money to use metal. Or you don't know how
Only problem is a dummy doesn't know that sheet metal ductwork has basically duct board inside the sheet metal. Before running off at the mouth you might want to know what the hell you're talking about.
And matter of fact moisture is not going to make it that far if the AH is sealed properly and the proper filter is used. You've got to be a trailer park handyman or something. Definitely not an HVAC technician. Or if so a misinformed one.
Good demonstration Sir. You explain it very easy without too much gloss and drama.. Thank you.
Sir, thank you very much for the great explanation step by step !!!! A++
Thanks for making the video. Makes sense!

Thank you Sir. Saved me some much needed money.
Glad I could help

I don’t remember if you explained how you calculated the size of the plenum but can someone explain it to me how you calculate the size of the return and supply plenum
What is the tool you cut the middle sections out with to make the folds?

kaydee457 Thank you sir
I see you posted a link for the V tool. There are several sizes. What do I use on 1-3/4" duct board?
Sorry I meant 1-1/2" duct board
Use the 1.5" tool.
Use the blue hand tool and save urself a few steps. It makes the STAPLE flap.
Great video
Only video out here. Thank you sir
you mean 24 1/4 right?
thats what i thought he meant. he cut it 3/4" shorter, which is half the thickness of the board (i guess)
Where can I purchase the duct boards
I bought mine from a major A/C and Plumbing supplier located in Tampa. It probably depends on where you live. Home Depot carries it but only in certain states....They don't in Florida.
I had to have a lot of patience

In Florida there’s a lot of duct board
