    The only reason I can see Apple making a smart ring is for those who don’t want to wear a smartwatch. Maybe some customers would rather wear a nicer/fancier watch but still have a wearable on to track health tracking, etc.

      It’s too niche a proposition for Apple to go there. Clearly based on sales a huge proportion of people have no problem with the Apple Watch aesthetic and sleep tracking isn’t something for the masses either. To me it’s a bit like the AI microwave i.e. if I have a bad nights sleep I know about it! Certainly wouldn’t be much demand for a services based payment model either. I’m sure Apple will leave Aura alone to make a living out of it. It’s definitely not a big time proposition. I agree with Drew on that but why would an Apple washing machine be any better than that AI microwave?😂

      Exactly, I prefer to wear actual watches that just tell me the time or maybe moon phase or something than a cheap plastic overglorified display for my notifications

    I wear a smart ring and an Apple Watch. The advantage of a smart ring is that there is no setup needed and you can wear it 24 hours a day, having to charge it for 2 hours once a week or so. I sleep without a watch, though I have no trouble wearing one at night. The ring I have also has no monthly subscription.

    • @techinrl9869
      @techinrl9869 Před 2 měsíci

      @@xeon2k8 No. An Apple Watch requires setting up schedules for when you plan to go to sleep. I don’t have a normal sleep schedule since I’m retired, so this was annoying. It also requires setting up a health history to use the Apple health app. Even Samsung watches don’t require sleep schedules, which I also have. With the ring I have, you don’t have to do any of that. Just log into the iOS app, pair the ring, and that’s it. There’s an option to link to Apple’s health app, but that’s basically one tap to do it. That’s it and it starts tracking everything immediately as soon as you put it on. The ring tracks all kinds of things like activity, SPO2, HRV, heart beat, stress, etc I used to use Samsung watches to track sleep, but stopped after I found all of them (I have three generations) have a nasty bug that incorrectly tracks deep sleep. Typical deep sleep is about 1.5-2 hours a night, but Samsung watches rarely track more than 15 minutes of deep sleep a night.

    I am in the camp of people who would buy this. I had an apple watch; when the battery diminished, I was happy to go back to wearing my other non-smart watches, but missed the health tracking. I got the cheapest, small garmin and have turned off all alerts except for phone calls. I want the health tracking and sleep tracking, but that's about it. I would downsize to a bracelet with no screen or a ring if the price was right. If it meshed with my other apple products, even better.

    I love my Oura ring. It's helpful to wear it at night so that my circadian rhythms aren't affected by Bluetooth, unlike my Apple Watch. I love how the Oura ring looks, so Apple would need to design something compelling for me to switch over. I really don't think Apple should do it and perhaps focus on improving the Apple Watch and its health measures. I don't see people owning a watch getting a ring. It'll probably be expensive, and one would opt for a watch over a ring that will likely have minimal features in comparison.

    Smart rings are suffering the same fate as folding phones are facing right now. It’s a gimmick, not all gimmicks are bad though - I just don’t see any compelling reason as to why Apple would ever enter the category. Not saying I wouldn’t buy it (I probably would because I’m a sheep of course), but I probably would return it or probably never use it after a couple of days.

    • @haruyanto8085

      Not a gimmick, smart rings have limited functions, the more you limit technology the more use you can get out of it, folding phones try to be extra and do more than regular smartphones hence why they are a gimmick
      Making money is all the reason Apple needs, even if it costs double the price of a smart watch but only has the most basic functionality, as long as it works well with my other Apple products as expected, me and many others would happily purchase it

    If this hypothetical Apple smart ring is meant only for fitness tracking, I don't think it would cannibalize sales from the watch because the watch can do so much more than just fitness tracking. It can play your music, take calls, manage notifications, and, you know, *show the time* .

    Would love to see Apple bring out a smart ring. I don't feel like it would take that many sales away from the watch though. A ring is just this passive device recording your metrics. And even if it had a tiny little display on it, you wouldn't get enough information to know if it's important. You'd still need to use your phone like normal. Whereas a smart watch can give you detailed notifications, and active workout metrics.

    I believe in 10 years the smartphone will be replaced with smart glasses. Why would you need a watch in that scenario. The ring makes a lot more sense then for collecting health data 7x24, when you’re not wearing the glasses. The ring could be used to interact with the smart glasses without constantly reaching to your head. Think moving the crown dial to your finger.

    We have to agree on one thing. Apple's sleep tracking sucks.....sucks really really bad. It doesn't auto track sleeping. So it tracks only if sleep mode is activate and that only happens only with a sleep schedule. I still don't know how my temp is measured during sleep. A few weeks ago I fell asleep some time around 8-9 pm but my schedule is much later. From the 9 odd hours I actually slept it tracked 2/3s as sleep, the rest I was just in bed. It needs propper auto tracking. Let me have my sleep schedule for the alarm....love the different alarm style, but for f's sake. Let the alarm chime on my phone and let the AppleWatch vibrate....as it did before.

    Apple could do it, but in the end its a pro-consumer move and not a pro-company/profit moves.
    Sure there would be a benefit of a few users that dont/wont have an apple watch to have a ring. But theres the entire mass of the market that either dont have or use wearables that this endeavor wouldnt pay off.
