- CRUISE TIP # 22 LET THE CRUISE LINES KNOW AHEAD OF TIME.
If you have any concerns for your cruise make sure to tell the cruise line ahead of time. Will you be bringing a scooter? do you have alergies? the cruise lines will do their best to help you out.
Letting the cruise know ahead of time just seems like common sense.
Unfortunately not everyone has it. There was a guy (can't remember what line) that wasn't allowed to board because he didn't tell them he had a scooter ahead of time. Think it was MSC though
My wife is a travel agent and met a passenger on board our last cruise that didn't use a travel agent and didn't let the cruise line know about her dietary needs or the fact that she was completely deaf. Turns out that when sailing to or from the U.S. the cruise line by LAW has to provide an interpreter for people who can't hear. But like Don says constantly, the cruise line can't help after you get back home and complain, or if you don't ask, or inform the line about special needs. Most people think they are better off booking on their own but they don't realize that a travel agent is basically a "concierge ".
I am deathly allergic to macadamia nuts and I told Princess cruise when I went and they were so very helpful. Yes they made me special items and I was treated with such kindness.
Good information for everyone!! I would always call special needs ahead, when my mom cruised with us!
Shower chair, elevated toilet seat, needle box, med refrigerator and distilled water!
Our travel agent, asks us about this every time we book. He takes care of that. That's why it's always good to use a good travel agent.
Cruise lines are all about service! Chatting about needs can go along way to your comfort.
It is always a good idea to let them know!!
It’s amazing how well the cruise-line personnel will take care of you and your requests as long as you let them know.
Yes that is true. More easy for them when they know allergy or others before cruise. Thanks
So very true. I am thankful for the special care.
Good point, I would want all the arrangements made prior to boarding. This would give me a piece of mind and allow the vacay to start right away without lineups at customer service desk.
I have had to let them know before for apnea machines water and extension cords. They are very helpful. Dont like to get there and be caught not prepared for sure. Thanks for tip 22!
On our last Princess Cruise, my friend got to see the next days menus in advance so they could prepare her selection gluten-free for her. Although we were considering going to a specialty restaurant, we opted for the MDR due to the great options being served.
Also, we found that the International Cafe had great gluten-free options most days. And sometimes they had really good sugar-free as well.
I always feel it’s better to tell them up front and it’s less hassle when you are on vacation.
Hi Don! Both my husband and I are diabetic and we have to store our different types of insulin in a refrigerator. No, not the bar fridge in our cabin. These fridges are adjusted to a hier temperature so that beer and soft drink can live comfortably. The temperature in these fridges are not low enough for insulin. So, what to do? Call the cruise
Line and explain the problem. They will reserve a fridge that its temperature is within the acceptable range recommended by the insulin manufacturing laboratories. Otherwise, insulin will not be injectable.
Suggestion: "let the cruise line know" : describe hwo one shoudl let cruise line know, and when. (even making initial booking, filling out certain field in reservation, updating reservation 1 week before cruise, calling cruise line to advise and let them access your reservation with fields you don't have access to etc). How/when to let cruise lie know is important. (and whether it is uniform across all cruise lines and varies from company to company).
I definitely let the cruise line know I'm visually impaired.
Hi Don we are good we always let them know what we might need Never had a problem in our five cruises so far in the last six years
Thanks for informing people that you can do these things
Good tip. This is something I would never of thought about.
We are going on a Princess Cruise Tour next month. When I filled out the questionnaire for my accessible cabin, I added my needs for the hotels and lodges for the land portion. On our last booking update, they showed accessible for all the hotels and lodges.
My friend had to get one at port because they realized they needed one at the port. We didn’t have an issue but it was 2022.
Thanks Don! I am fortunate not to require special needs care but I have friends who do so I will be sure to pass your message along to them and I'm sure they will be thankful to get the information.
It is just a part of planning your cruise. Great tip.
That totally makes sense!
Exactly, if you don’t let the cruise line know, how would they know how to cater to your needs.
I never thought of this. Thanks for this advice
This is so true, great tip!
You’ll have smoother sailing when you let the cruise line know what your preferences are needed.
I let Royal know about my allergy. It's also important to let the waiter know as well. Always ask questions just to make sure. On our last cruise I let Royal know and my waiter about my allergy and even then something came to the table with almonds on it and could have been dangerous.
By the way Don, someone posing as you contacted me and wanted to give me the prize. I'm pretty sure it wasn't you but wanted to make sure.
Thank you for all these valuable informational videos
Thanks for sharing.
My walker wouldn’t even fit through the door. It was hard to fold and it was hard to hold a heavy door open. I cruised with a guest that got the next day’s menu so she could go over it with the chef.
Great advice
Thanks for the valuable information
Don we enjoy your channel and always give the thumbs up, take a few and understand the difference between a person with a disability versus handicapped .
Thank you for putting this out so all needs can be met.
Good info! I see a ton of those type questions online.
Thanks for the advice
Good to know!!
Thank you for the tip
Keep up the good work!
Thank you for your tips.
Too true. Don't have issues yot but they're coming
I agree ❤great advise
Great advice. 😊
Hi Don! Love the content. ⚓️
Excellent information!!
thank you
Great tip as always Don.
I always learn so much from your tips! I may not have thought to let them know ahead.
Great information. Thanks
Good tip
Hi Don they need to fill out a. Form for the wheelchair or scooter they will not let you get on ship.with out of and it needs to be done 6 weeks prior to get on sail date. Carnival it can not be more than 21 wide to fit in the cabins.
We always ask for distilled water and extension cords for our CPAP machines.
Hey Don, good tip on the scooter as some people probably would not think about IT. Love the thumb nail of you on the scooter LOL.
Goo c to know!
Good information.
They will also give you distilled water for CPaps. Just ask for it.
I always tell the cruise line ahead of time that I need distilled water and sometimes an extension cord. Out of the last 10 cruises only one time did i have it in the cabin when we boarded.
We love you Don
Good tip, but I’m really just trying to win that whale tale statue.
Good Afternoon Don
Really, it is best to let them know about your special circumstances.
Nothing like having all your ducks in a row!! Cruise pun intended.....
Bottom line is: people can't know of your particular needs and/or preferences if you don't tell them.
Omgeeeee....that thumbnail of you on a scooter is hilarious!!!!!
👍!
I'm highly allergic to nasty mean cruisers. Wish there was a repellent spray for that😅
The ship only gets whats on your réservations If you dont tell they dont know
Yes, stop being, or looking as if you are an entitled cruisers! You are there’s it’s other people and with ADA courtesies come responsibilities.
Sorry Don! Bit tjis is not #22 it is #1. I am disabled and after I book online I call the company and tell them about all of my difficulties so they know.
Normally everything works smoth. But Sometimes there is hiccups on the way, but normally it is possible to make it work.
make a lot of sense
If you use travel agent will they handle notifications? We would be 1st time cruisers since my spouse has began needing a scooter. Thanks!
I get a scooter to help me walking so I let them know I ordered it
I did that twice on Royal Caribbean I let them know over a year in advance and they didn’t accommodate me on my request
We always let them know we are vegetarian even though we know there is lots of choice on board.
How difficult is it to fly with a wheelchair used as an aide, especially for long lines if someone can't stand for long periods, but isn't needed all the time? Should cruise line still be notified if bringing one in this type of situation?
We've been on two Princess cruises with Deaf groups and their interpreters. Having studied ASL, I was happy to see accommodations in the theater and no, I didn't "eavesdrop." Bad manners in Deaf culture.
Wassup
You may even be barred from boarding if you don’t advise the cruise line in advance.
Yep it has happened recently sadly.
Good information
I dislike most scooters. I hope the users don't let the cruise lines know and they cannot bring the stupid thing on the ship. People are so rude. They run into you and think they are entitled to cut in line. Ugh. Hate it!
do I need to let them know if my wife is extra naggie??
Entitled people
Pro tip: don't cruise if you use a scooter.
I have been cruising with a scooter for the last 15 years and have not had a problem.
That's a rude take.
@@sandrawilkinson2557 I bet everyone gives you the side eye when they walk by you.
@@loveinseattle If they do that is their problem. I am always respectful and go slow. I am always on the look out for darting kids and those that are not watching where they are going. Mostly I have found people to be helpful and fun to be around.
Don - have you sent me an email to reach out to you on Telegram about the giveaway?
That's probably a scam!
@@tduck828 That's what I think too. Just want to make sure and let Don know about it.
Yes I Pretty sure its a scam, IT's not DON.
@@lisakennemer6118Don just put out a video about scammers!
He addresses it in his other video today about scammers.
Good tip
