    Since my father was the original head of engineering and product at Netflix where he created the video streaming platform. I think his time as a Captain in the military really shines through here. In his role as a Captain, he gave a lot of freedom to his team and told them if you are mediocre you get cut and replaced because your inadequate performance could affect others lives. So his philosophy was to give them a lot of freedom, the ability to be honest and the rest of the team will let you know who to cut because they don’t trust their abilities. If the entire team is a group of A+ people they all want to be there because it’s the best performing group they are apart of and may ever be a part of. So this makes perfect sense, he was able to specifically target for certain kinds of people.
    Also the way he tried to make this relatable to tech teams is like a Good AI... rules with no rules. Too many rules kill the AI’s ability to think, and too little rules are going to also kill it.

    9:00 Team isn't about having the best person in every position (just ask Real Madrid) - its about having the best team with the right players in each position working together as a team! A great team will always beat a great group of individuals!

    To be fair Netflix is unique. All the other companies in USA are not like Netflix.
    Also there are many companies in Europe too. Innovation is happening without Netflix way. Even in "socialist" Europe.
    There are just some very unique things about USA, one is that its a very large singular market (English speaking, similar culture and large population). You can talk about Europe, but that's a collection of many companies with many languages and many cultures. It's the main reason why it's hard to make big companies in Europe.
