it's sad because a true and respectable route at this point should be people in power admitting their wrongs and weed (pun intended) out all the non violent individuals wrongfully convicted. I'm not saying all of them but a great deal do fall into the non violent side.

I think this where legitimate questions based on the climate of the country. I don't smoke or partake but it is interesting to me how the leaders, In this case will react to the law changing. To me it seams like he is ill prepared and that is troubling. I would rather have someone with an aggressive opinion than one who is lost as this sheriff seams to be. An acceptable answer would've been
Our department will adapt in accordance to the law if it changes.

This former Sheriff, and I use that term loosely, is largely responsible for the current conditions in the county. Forget the pot crap.... that is the least of the issue. Focus on METH and other hard drugs that are using the same underground distribution networks previously used by cannabis. This former Sheriff allowed this county to devolve into a meth toilet. No, he wasn't alone. The Ukiah Coty Council and Manager allowed it also. They did nothing to abate the problem... or the homeless problems... or the crime problems...

You can tell that sheriff drinks a lot as most LEO's do. You can also tell he is biased against cannabis.
If someone claims they have a sore shoulder and their doctor signs off on it for them to be mmj patients they are indeed mmj patients at that point. The sheriff can doubt the validity all he wants. I doubt that every senior citizen around me has valid ailments to have been on valium and percocet for most of their adult lives, but some doctor(s) did and they're free from persecution.
Instead of getting mad at the interviewer for asking questions he doesn't want to answer he should shoulder some of that aggression toward the legislators who write those vague laws for him to enforce. That department would do better having a PR person talk for the department in future interviews because its apparent this sheriff has anger issues and isn't equipped to hold a civil conversation with people he doesn't agree with. In the streets he'd just punch you in the mouth and arrest you.

I live in Humboldt County which if some don't know is right next to Mendocino County; I had faith that maybe their county would be more prepared and open to it but obviously not. It is annoying to see how he reacts to such real questions; with anger. How do you think medicine gets to 215 patients? Someone has to grow it, therefore people do focus their living on cannabis and providing patients with that cannabis. Yes some abuse the law but don't forget those people who truly want to help patients get access to the cleanest and healthiest medicine available. Shame on you Sheriff, Shame on you.

Notice how his face gets more and more red throughout the clip? It might just be me but, saying you don't think about hypotheticals is like saying you just want to do your job like a robot and not have to think. he obviously had some things he wanted to say but didn't. Good job and thank you to Viceland for having the cojones to talk to these law enforcement people when some obviously don't like marijuana and would have a problem with a policy change most definitely. they all claim to enforce the law of the land, but I think their personal opinion drives a lot of these police officers. in episode three, when you asked if you thought locking up all of these people for non-violent crimes was logical, it turned into a "black man in the prison" thing and then it went to "well if their family would have just raised them right they wouldn't smoke weed, and we wouldn't have to arrest them". those cops down south we're definitely not afraid to share what they thought was a justification for their enforcement of the law, and the California sheriff, who SHOULD be thinking about hypotheticals, because it's kind of part of his job, just turns red and says "I can tell you have been influenced by something", stops taking the interview seriously, and dismisses the interviewer with a firm handshake.

Funny part being that me, unlike mostly (if not all) of the below commentors dont live in mendo/willits/ukiah and know this guy who in reality isnt worried about 90% of the growers in the county. *Fact*.
What he *is* worried about are the tweakers and random vagabonds killing random citizens of the county.
This man has literal actual problems to face hourly meanwhile you all are talking about 'hypotheticals'.
I like his attitude. We'll cross that bridge when we get there. Until then lets deal with the realities of whats going on.
And *all* of that comes from someone who dislikes the police *AND* am a grower.

Most police officers when asked the question if cannabis should be legalized the majority will reply NO
And the reason for this is they know
that a large amount of the funding for there precinct Will be significantly lowered if cannabis becomes legal
It be like asking a person if he thinks robots taking over jobs of humans is a good thing
Don't get me wrong I partake in cannabis regularly and wish to see it's legalization but asking cops whether or not they think legalization is a good thing might not be something they would like to answer positively to protect her own self interest

Maybe the marijuana growers don't want to smell their neighbor's roses?

the Law also doesn't say anything about marijuana having to be grown and giving away in a medical sense. like how he tries to blatantly ignore our country's free market system as if it needs to be written into every law. just his way of picking on young people growing.

Krishna came real close to getting his ass kicked. I see both sides but I do feel bad for the law enforcement just trying to hold up the law during these times of change. Things are changing rapidly and we MUST respect the hard tasks that our law enforcement has during this change in laws. Good questions though Krishna.

That officer is a robot of the law in place. If you pass laws that make it legal to grow and profit he will have no choice but to abide them as he is a robot of the law. I fear that cops are turning into robots when they become officers of the law and they completely forget they have the right to change the direction in which the laws we want to pass are headed by voting as well. Or do they not vote at all?
