When we first got our robo vac it takes a few times for it to learn where things are and find the homing station it will look around for along time till it learns where it is its normal

Although programming the Roomba to start automatically seems nice, you'll find that it can get itself into trouble. I ended up just manually restarting mine after a quick safety inspection to avoid nasty surprises, just like knocked over frames and broken glass.
