    Thank you so much for this tutorial, I've been battling with eyebrows, been watching other vids until I found yours & this one is a life savior for sure.
    The snap to face part was the tricky one for me until I saw you, thanks again.

      Yeah no worries Vermeil! I'm glad it helped! Yeah the snap to face is great tool!

    Brilliant use of Greasepencil! This gave me so many ideas. Thanks Russell. Loving your channel.

    Wow this is really cool technique indeed! I normally use hair particle system to create eye brows but it didn’t give me a good result for my particular art style.
    I’m gonna definitely need to try this one out for next project 👏🏼

    • @RussellMidfield
      @RussellMidfield  Před 3 lety +2

      Thanks Tomoya! Yeah, I have struggled so much with the hair particle system in general, and especially so when it came to trying to do eyebrows with it, could never get it to look how I wanted. This way kind of gave me a good stylized look, although it is a liiiiitle bit in the uncanny valley for me, but I kind of like it now haha. Yeah if you ever give it a go let me see! You'll probably do it way better than I did haha.

      @@RussellMidfield haha same goes for me too. Whenever I used the particle system for the eye brows , it ended up looking literally like Caterpillar on the face lol
      And yes , I’ll be starting new project soon so , I’ll definitely make sure to share it with you once it’s done 😸👍🏼 thanks!

      @@RussellMidfield aw thank you. I was quite busy yesterday and didn’t have much time to work on something exciting , but i really enjoyed practicing sculpting hand which has been a big weakness of mine 😅 and I finally figured out it’s better to sculpt the finger nail as a separate mesh so I would say it was successful practice session haha

    Who is going to help me understand grease pencil? Russel is, as always. Just a question: have you ever used grease pencil for hair? Your tutorial on hair sculpting is at the top of my playlists but when it comes to thinner strands I always find the bevel/curve solution a bit "unrealistic" (I am a painter so I like the idea of drawing strands)

    • @RussellMidfield
      @RussellMidfield  Před 2 lety

      Haha! I'm glad this helped! Yeah I've tried to use this method for hair, can't say I loved the result but in the right hands it could probably work, but those hands are not mine haha! Have you explored Hair Cards at all? This involves painting hair strands on a UV map which may lend itself nicely to your painting background. It's not painting hair on the head in 3d space however so not sure if it's quite what you're looking for.

      @@RussellMidfield I am using Blender to create 3d models for printing so I am exploring how to render my usually flowing rich hairstyles in 3d without adding and adding and adding squashed spheres :) but, again, just looking at how you managed the eyebrows was another ahah! moments. Let's see if those hands will be mine some days :D

    I have a question, how do I convert these bezier curves, eyebrow bevels and hairs into a mesh so I can join them with the character mesh to export to unity?

    • @RussellMidfield
      @RussellMidfield  Před rokem +1

      I think you can just right click, or select the curves and press F3 for the search menu and type "convert" then select convert to mesh. Problem with this is that you'll have a lot of geometry, so you'll need to do some adjustments if you want to use in an animation or game.

      I used the grease pencil for this one. Drew the individual hairs, converted to a curve, then snap to face, a few smaller steps along the way as well!

      @RussellMidfield  Před 3 lety +1

      Oh haha, this popular video (czcams.com/video/zJwMb1kb0W8/video.html) I liked, but I wanted to make it maybe a little bit simpler, and wanted to do the multiple layer approach for easier adjustment of the overall shape

  • @SpaceMango
    @SpaceMango Před 3 lety +1

    This is so weird, my curves just becomes red lines and lots of dots, so when i drag them out by deselecting first they just become choppy and weird. hard to explain. They don't look like regular curves, so it looks like squiggly worms.. or weird tubes

    • @RussellMidfield
      @RussellMidfield  Před 3 lety

      Hmm, did you decimate the curve to reduce the number of vertices? Make sure to turn off snap to face before dragging them out, or else all the little vertices will stick to everything behind it and look all jagged
