- IN THIS VIDEO I GO TO PICK UP A DODGE 3500 THAT I BOUGHT. I HAVE SOME NICE TRUCKS THAT I WANT TO KEEP NICE BUT I WANT A WORK TRUCK THAT CAN GET SCRATCHED, DENTED AND DIRTY. I WANT IT TO BE ABLE TO TRAVEL ANY DISTANCE I NEED. I WANTED SOMETHING WITH LOWER MILES. BELIEVE IT OR NOT ANYTHING UNDER A 100K IS LOW TO ME. ONE THING LEADS TO ANOTHER AND BEFORE I KNOW IT I BOUGHT THE MAN'S TRUCK AND HIS 2023 36FT GOOSENECK TRAILER WITH A 25K GVWR. I HAVNT GOT THE UTILTITY TRAILER DONE YET BUY ON THE WAY TO GET THE TRUCK, I ENDED UP BUYING A 30FT PULL BEHIND DECKOVER TRAILER THAT NEEDS SOME WORK.

I think if I sold a vehicle I had given up on I would be happy if the person who bought it was able to get it going without breaking his back or the bank doing so. Maybe that's just me but if I'm ready to move on but I know it's still a useful piece of equipment or vehicle, I want to see the next person get good use out of it.
Can’t believe multiple shops couldn’t find or didn’t want to find the problems. Tipms are pretty common failure point. Pretty nice truck probably 10k under what it’s worth
they couldnt fix the issue of it banging hard when shifting from park to any gear or any gear to park as well as the check engine light. may have been intermittent problem at one time. doesnt matter now....
I had the exact same problem with a TIPM on my 08 5500 rollback. Glad you fixed it fast
You know, that was very kind and thoughtful of you to consider the man’s feelings after seeing you driving the truck he basically lost a lot of money on, or a good chunk anyways. I instantly smiled and thought what a decent good man. I like your channel even more now, didn’t think it was possible but you actually made it possible 🤩! Have a great fantastic weekend! 🤩🙌🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸
The response was "yeah we thought it was fixed lots of times too....and then it wasnt". so far so good. no more transmission issues after 235 miles. fingers crossed its going to be ok.
That's good you got it figured out...trailer looks good too...that truck was sure glad to see you coming
Jc there are mechanics and part changers obviously your the first of the two nice job on the trouble shooting
One man’s trash is another’s treasure as they say. I love the confidence you have to correct whatever you find. You will have it good as new in short order! Love the videos and the channel!
Your skill with elec is your WIN..! Bravo...very interesting....hmmm
Love that flatbed minus the cracks! I had a bad tipm on my 04 cummins. I bought one from Mak’s TIPM. I plugged it in and did nothing special like a flash.
Great video J.C.Smith really enjoy watching you fix this truck. Good catch on the electrical gremlins in this Dodge. Thanks for sharing J.C.Smith.
Looked like the Dust Shield behind the rotor rusted out, That Shield holds the ABS wire down & out of the way of the rotor, as the ABS wire routes under, & behind it.
there is a holder that is broken as well.
great video thanks for sharing always looking forward to see what will be next.
Hi JC thank you for sharing 😅
Glad you got the issue resolved nice truck
$1700 for a terribly designed part that shouldn’t have come out of the factory like that..criminal. SMH. Great work Mr. Smith, I’ve learned a lot by your easy to understand explanations of issues that I feel like most mechanics should know.
A dodge with a electrical issues, thats a first 😂😂😂😂😂 jk. Nice truck. Your attention to detail is great. Thanks for sharing.
Nice diagnostic work J.C. That is a good looking truck, even with the typical rusty rockers. Have replace several pairs of those over the years.
Nice find and repair.
Great ketch on the tipm
Nice truck, great fix. 👍
Hello j.c and Mrs Smith and I like your video is cool j.c thanks friends randy
Really nice truck….decent shape too
should change the name to the Life and Times of J. C. Smith wondered how long it would be since you were getting finished with the other trailer
Nice job JC, the wiring problems are interesting to watch
Holy cow they almost lost that trailer. Going to a good home now.
J C is a good teacher.
for a used CC 3500 work truck, that one is rather decent shape. it isnt completely clapped out, beat to inch of its life littered with WTF 'fixes'. those TIPMs are aggravating. $1200 for a new TIPM on one of our RAM 2500 at work all thanks to shoddy plow install/wiring butchery
I had a guy sell me a beautiful 96 Lincoln Town Car because he couldn't get it out of park. He was so mad at the car he said he'd take junk price so I gave him $200 and he signed the title over. He's like ..have fun figuring out how to load it on your trailer! I drove it on the trailer right in front of him. Ohhhh was he fuming! I didn't touch a thing ...just turned the key to the position before start..which unlocks the column shift. Dropped it to neutral, started the car and then put it in drive and drove it on the trailer.
Bad brake light switch or wiring near pedal? Had a couple deals this way too.
I replaced seats in my 2012 and the mounting flanges for the rear were too short by about 2.5" so not sure what they were out of. Maybe a 1500 but certainly something to look for. Mine is a 3500 dually pickup. only cab options(with rear seat) were the crew and the mega cab so must be out of a 1500 or an older truck.. puzzling.
Mine has 300K with a G56 and she purr's like kitten still... i hauls RV's out of Indiana regularly still.
JC the mechanics detective on the hunt for issues
Really great finds J.C. Personally the “4th generation” ram trucks are my favorite diesels on the road today. It looked like you were really making progress, but I just saw your post you made that the truck left you stranded on the side of the road. Hope by now you have a plan of attack to remedy the issue. Looking forward to the next update👍
Yep, I love the 4th gen rams too. I have had nothing but good luck with them. Very reliable in my opinion.
As most know now, all trucks are supposedly automatic, I have so little feeling in my legs and feet, I wear a size sixteen shoe which is a five e width shoe and covers two pedals... I have to now use the automatic because of my feet hitting the brake and clutch both. I can only think this problem you have found will still be in the two thousand twenty three and newer rigs as well. I am not sure as to their ever fixing a problem thats a parts and pieces sale for them. That said, most don't fix a rig, they just get a new rig again... not a good way to operate in my thinking.
That would make a really nice truck!!
Just hooked up and subscribed like thath truck &trailer its alot of details you'll get them figure out transmission could be valves controlled Respect Lonewolf Canada 🇨🇦 A'HO
we appreciate ya and welcome!
For an old head your troubleshooting skills are good. Not everyone can do that shit. I haven't had a chance to use it but I seem guys use light bulb in place of fuse and wiggle the wires till light flashes. Those tipm are garbage for years.
i buy lots of trucks with electrical issues. they are some of my most profitable purchases. many folks give up on them after becoming frustrated. thankfully i have been able to been able to figure them all out.
Yeah I want to get more into flipping. Right now I just fix em for other people. Like i said man a lot of guys don't understand what it takes for the new electronics to work. I had to fix a dog journey a month ro tow ago. They paid csr off and the lot told them to come up and they would take the gps tracker out. They said 20 minutes. Lady was there 5 hours. 2 months later starts shifting messed up. Speed sensor codes. Investigate and I see an extra ground wire ran to green and purple sensor ground. Wire was cut when they took out tracker yet they left the relay which was right where he cut the wire. Muata fried something with a power probe I imagine trying to figure out the wire was cut. Anyway they added the ground and I replaced the PCM because of it. They refused to pay for the damage they caused. The crazy part to me besides a parasitic draw the gps box wouldn't affect the customer but the relay in the starter s post wiring would. They leave the only part that would prevent car from starting
That dodge is sharp looking JC.
I may be selling my pressurized sand blaster, I won’t need it again for a year or so. It will need hoses before long. If you want a way to do your own sandblasting
Not sure how J.C. feels about it, but open sandblasting is a good job to sublet!!!!
If it'll fit in a blast cabinet, I'm good.
Hope you have better luck with a cummins 6.7 than I have, most have major problems by 100k miles.
i have owned probably 50 of them and never had any major issues....or even minor.
Hey JC I ran into a few of those with the Asain trans and the electrical plug faces up the pins get green from the salt water sitting on the top of the connector last truck I had it was discontinued from the dealer for the trans truck side harness the valve body connector was available I found the pins from oem connectors I think
i believe the connector under the cab being all crudded up on the connections was the cause of it banging when shifting. after i cleaned it, it hasnt done it again. the corrode pin on the tipm was the secondary issue.
@@j.c.smithprojects
I was just going through my photos the last truck that happened to was a wheel lift tow truck the flywheel cracked I before it came in no file codes and i said to myself don’t undo that plug because of prior experience. On those units but I did and the pins pulled out of the valve body and the body side pins were destroyed.
Awesome job ! I understand how picking up the trailer may sting a little to the previous owner but obviously your knowledge is way superior to that of the shops he was taking it to! Which unfortunately is common a lot of shops are very eager to spend your $$$ & then have no explanation why the problem is still there after thousands of $$$ spent!
i think maybe the problem was intermittent when it was looked at by others and was constant when i looked at it?
Fun fact, dodge (ram) uses the same wiring harnesses between all the trucks, if my brain is remembering correctly, everything is in the harness minus the heated seat wiring, and a kit is sold to make everything work for a reasonable price. So you can easily bolt everything in from a Laramine without any issue (I had a tradesman prior to my shittyrado, and never got around to swamping to a nicer set of seats)
The red Dodge for sure has a lot of potential, at your hands a great work horse it will again be. My eye wasn't quick enough but I really like the look of it's tires & would you mind sharing the size, brand & model of them? Thank you.
they are mastercraft courser cxt tires. part of the cooper name.
Thank you Sir.@@j.c.smithprojects
Very impressive trouble shooting!!
Hey JC I watch a lot of your videos but on the truck 67 I was thinking maybe pull part over here in Northeast Ohio or there's a place right down the street called Arlington auto wrecking they might be able to help you
i have bought from arlington many years ago. john was still running it then.
Looks like a bullet hole in rear driver side door 😳? If it is, makes one wonder what was going on in that back seat at some point to get a person to take a shot at him😂😂
I had a friend's truck that had a very oily engine compartment and she asked me to repair it. I pressure washed the engine and areas that were oily. Afterwards it wouldn't start no matter what I did. Seems Dodge has issues with how they wire their vehicles. The cause was from the water. All the fusable link wires were fried. I have pressure washed many brands for vehicles and only Chrysler would short out the fusable links. After all the repairs and a new power steering high pressure hose replacement everything was good again. All new fusable wires were replaced. I never found a way to prevent or waterproof the wiring sadly.
I dont know if CZcams is big enough for 2 red rams with flatbeds. Im liking the fender flares. What size tires are on it? Im due for a set and those look a little bigger than stock.
you can be the guy with the nice one. i can be the guy trying to make a nice one.
those transmissions have no bands only clutches and planatery gears i overheard a transmission guy talking about calibrating the fill volumes on those transmissions he was going to reset not sure if yours has the same trans or not. i have replaced several solenoid packs on the gas burners
Would love to hear your thoughts on a Diamond C trailer
the ones i have seen were some of the best engineered and best built trailers i have come across. pricey but quality takes time and money.
How do you run lug nuts that loose without loosing a wheel and or shakeing you out of the cab
You and Logan can be twins!
no idea. that hat to be wobbling all over the road.
I’d try a reputable electrics repair place before spending $1700 bucks. It’s just a pin, solder on a new one. Done.
Yeah, i was thinking the same- if it can be disassembled and inspected, and any bad pins or traces repaired and sealed, it should be good as new. If the thing is potted in resin or something, then it may not be practical to repair.
the board is corroded in this spot and im sure others. i don want to be hours away from home and it fail at another location. i will replace it.
Nice trouble shooting skills on the Dodge. So is the plan to fix this one: some body work, repair bed, seats, brakes...maybe you will want to remove the bed so you can access the underside and be able to weld from any direction....(Good having that Grady), while the bed is off you can easily check out the rear end and knock off the rust and treat the frame; THEN repair your other one and keep the best one?
LOL. Just spent all that time on the 4x4 trailer cussing you will never get used again, and like a week later have not only a 30' flatbed in need of total frame cosmetic, axle repairs (springs looked like needed attention), but also a used GN. Wouldn't you want a GN for your SS? Better weight transfer to the axle. Do you plan to keep all THREE trailers? You are like me and can't pass up a good deal. Look at all the money I save!
i have no intentions of selling any of my dodge trucks. however, the chevy c4500 cant leave fast enough. "if it aint six in a row, it has to go!"
Chrysler has been having problems with their TIPMs for at least 15 years - ridiculous.
What happened to the kodiak?
sitting in the shop waiting its turn. then it will be for sale . it cant leave soon enough.
I didn't think a 2012 required DEF
cab and chassis trucks got it before the pick up trucks did
2 * Roll Backs here
Truck
Mileage
i dont know what that means.
Pretty soon you're going to be all decked out and no place to go.....well maybe not no place to go.
How could it havr that low miles with that much seat wesr
JC said it was a farm truck, so alot of get-in/get-out with no real distances ever driven.
farm truck and he was "a big ole boy!"
You need a bigger garage
They don't build garages (or shops) large enough.
EVER.
Slick looking pickup J.C 🙂👍 Glad you could already track down what it needs. 🔧🔩
Is that bullet hole in the driver side rear door??? 😂😂😂
NO
