      Yeah it’s a night and day difference. My 09 ram is way more aggressive in slowing you down then my friends brand new f-550 mason dump. The Ford one is pretty much useless.

      Yep, my son says it sucks being behind me because I let off the throttle and the exhaust brake kicks in I'm really slowing down quickly (12 Ram 2500, 6.7 Cummins, G56 and 3.73 gears).

    You should make a spreadsheet with all the tow rigs you've pulled that hill with and what the results were. The brands, year, setup, load weight etc. It would be really cool to see all of the driving tests you've completed put all together.

    That's great that the 3500 does that. But your 5500 is engineered to do that every day for the next 500k miles. First the frame, suspension, axle's and everything is heavier. Then the engine is tuned for tq/hp to be the max for it's design and materials. Say they used a baseline of 500k miles. You could tune that engine for 30% more hp/tq, but it's going to run like that for 50% fewer miles. The 3500 is aimed at non-professionals, and to compete with Ford and GM for homeowners/campers. They had to make bigger numbers to compete in that market. But when hp/tq numbers go up, with the same displacement, longevity goes down. There is an old saying, 'there is no replacement for displacement'! LOL Same with the L6 vs V8. The V8's going to rev higher and have a wider power band. But there is a price to pay for that, they do that for 50% fewer miles than an L6, and usually have more problems doing it. The L6 design can last for 1M miles plus, w/no major issues! JMHO 8) --gary

      Actually the commercial 450/550/4500/5500 motors are detuned to lower ratings for longevity and perform worse in towing comparisons in the same weight range. This is due to their increased bulk on suspension, axles, brakes, and frame combined with their lower power ratings. The truck in this video in about the max performance you will get stock for the light to medium duty range.

    The good thing about turning more RPMS is it keeps the bearings in the engine alive a lot longer. If you are making the same power at 3000 rpms as 1500RPMs the bearings have half the stress since it's doing the work at twice the RPM. That is why all the sled pulling guys won't lug one down below 4,000 rpms and like to be closer to 5,000. Heaviest I have been with my H.O Ram Cummins is 18,500 with a Yanmar VIO55 on a 30ft gooseneck and it was just cruising. I normally tow a 33ft RV that I have never weighed and the wind resistance on that thing is crazy.

    The modern exhaust brakes are great. The RAM tuning and application is really one of the best ones out there. Fords I have never been pleased with it if even does anything. The 2022-2023 for GM's is good. But it doesn't activate the same as the RAM system does. It requires a brake press and partial activation before it really does it things. But it does work quite well once activated.
    I still need to make it your way and give you a chance on my seirra as I promised about a year ago. Good comparison between breakin on your 5500 and my 3500. I think they got about the same miles on them.

If drivers don't used it like you do ur truck just cruising around town they will always have issues with emissions and they complain about their trucks. Cummins engine exhuast brake is bread and butter for these trucks. All big 3 trucks have plenty of power, but only the Cummins has best exhuast brakes. We have all 3 in our fleet but Cummins hands down best exhuast brake and never usually smell brake pads and shoes at bottom of hill.

At about 600mi I pulled my 20k toy hauler with 3500 HO. First time I pulled Eisenhower, I was not impressed with the power pulling the mountain as I was doing approx. 47mph. After 5k miles or so miles I pulled the mountain again around 50-51 mph on avg. We drove through the Smoky Mountains going through Tennessee while going to North Carolina to pick up a duck hunting boat for my son. You live in one of the most beautiful parts of the country! Thank you for the reply before and any input you have is valued. My son loves the Mega Cab 2023 Ram’s SRW partly because they are way more comfortable when he is riding back there 😂, partly because he loves his RAM also, we are a divided family 😏.

    Sam, have you ever towed with the High Ouput 3500 dually with the 3.73 rear? It has a lower tow capacity. 32klb and change. I’m towing around 24k with mulcher and trailer weight. Wondering if that 3.73 would be adequate.

    Your 5500 truck weights 2k more then the 3500. Just look under there skirts and that's where you find the difference. The 5500 frame is double the thickness of the 3500. With stronger components attached. 1 test we all hope we dont have to do is emergency lane change because of the old van that pulled out right in front of you. It happens and when it does you'll be glad your in a 5500. Both great truck's 👍

    Hello, tell me, please, I own this truck for 1 week, a gusnek trailer, the mount is the same as yours. Without a trailer, the car goes smoothly, but when I hook the trailer, any irregularities on the road are felt very strongly. The feeling would be driving on a washing board. I let some air out of the tires, the car began to go softer, but not much. Could you share information about tire pressure? Do you have airbags working? Can you tell me your theory about the shaking, please?

    Will a 2024 Ram 2500 Big Horn Crew Cab 4X4 6.4L tow good with the Power Folding / Telescoping Mirrors with a dump and landscape trailer?

  • @cummindude
    @cummindude Před rokem +1

    Them mirrors are the reason I decided to pull the trigger on a 22' 3500 srw. I didn't spec my truck either and it'm doesn't have the brake light cargo camera. Don't know why at 95k that wouldn't be there. Also doesn't have the blindspot monitor lights in the mirrors. Don't know how that happens when it has the adaptive cruise and lane keep assist. I'm assuming the excuse is chip shortage related.

    Watching your video cuz Im considering a new Ram 3500 HO. I had no idea where you're located, not even what state, or where you did the filming.... until you pulled into that restaurant to do your u-turn. Hey, that looks familiar! Now I know exactly where you are and where you did the filming. I live fairly nearby and I pass that restaurant (on my way to the lake just down the road from it) at least 10 times a year. 😄👍

    If you have the cruise set at the down hill speed you want, won't it apply the truck and trailer brakes along with the exhaust brake at the same time? I couldn't tell if you had cruise on.

    • @VBELTandSON
      @VBELTandSON  Před 26 dny

      I don’t typically run cruise control while towing besides maybe flat ground. And cruise won’t apply service brakes. But it will run exhaust brake

  • @JohnSmith-ev1sm
    @JohnSmith-ev1sm Před rokem +2

    If you use Cruise Control down the hill, the truck then knows what your target speed is and will apply more or less exhaust braking to hold you to that speed. That might work better than just lifting off the gas and letting it coast with it not knowing what speed you intend to be at.

      With a modded valve body the torque converter wilstay in lockup and I believe there is a place in coneticout or East Coast that can tune the ecu to keep the converter locked in without a valve body or tuning I am running mm3 smarty on my ram it's easily capable of over 650 rwhp. I would never try towing with this tune it would likely result in some failure trans or otherwise when towing always keep your tune under 100 added horsepower or have gauges to monitor all your egts boost pressure trans temp exc.

    • @AllAutos
      @AllAutos Před 11 měsíci

      @VBELTandSON Win Lose, like Love Hate Pro Con. But if you can turn Lose to Win and so on, then that's where we get Win Win 🙂
      If tuning, for Emissions Legal of course, and an updated lubrication technology...then is it still "stock" as you perceive? Both are removable, but yours for the Win Win while it's in your operation.
      And yes, I'm pretty certain you're not using most updated lubrication technology for the truck or any of your equipment. If you were, you'd be raving about it and mentioning it at any power or efficiency topic opportunity, which was in this video.
