I did this job on my personal mini cooper. I used a matco ling ratcheting wrench and was able to take off the top bolt without removing the mount or anything. You can probably find a similar tool on marching for cheap. It's a long skinny ratcheting wrench with a closed end on the opposite side. Hope this helps.
Why do you keep jerking on that tab to release tension?! Pull it out 2 or so inches and there is a slot in it that you can catch on a tab to keep it retracted....
This is a very inexpensive part. I find it highly unlikely that the bearing is sold individually. In fact, I'm almost positive that it's designed to be a throwaway item
hey, I'm getting ready to do this myself on my peugeot 207 with the 1.6 liter engine (waiting on the parts). The rubber on my water pump pulley is badly damaged so i'm replacing both ( do you by any chance have an idea of what could have damaged that rubber btw ? ). You said it's really hard to put the friction wheel back in place, maybe removing the water pump pulley before putting the new friction wheel back in place would make it easier ?
Well it is a rubber surface pulling driven by a belt where debris can be thrown up into its pathway and compromise the rubber. I mean it's really an expendable surface. I think it would be easier to replace the pump pulley if the tensioner pulley is already removed as you just have a little bit more room to get your hands in there.
@@themarginalmechanic5928 yea I can see how a small getting stuck in between the water pump pulley and the tensioner would do tons or damage. I'll try both ways and see what works, thanks for your reply. Cheers
Mine water pump pulley on Citroen C5 was badly damaged and stopped because of a loose bolt from air filters plastic dropped in there. I changed it and the belt but now have a clicking noise in there, probably from this friction pulley's wheel but friction pulley is expensive in Turkey. So i will look for a way to repair it if i can
@@themarginalmechanic5928 Friction pulley's wheel is nice and firm, new water pump pulley and belt too, so i think noise comes from water pump itself because there are no noise in morning when water is cold and pump isn't turning. I am living in a small city and there are no one can repair a THP engine here. So i will check it out when i go to a bigger city with a proper car repair for PSA group. It is not a big problem for now
No it's not a joke. I don't think I stated that there isn't another way to remove this part but with the tools I have in the eyeballs I have this is what worked
@@themarginalmechanic5928 I literally just had to remove the water pump pulley. It was a very tight fit, but I was able to get the 3 bolts out. I originally thought the problem was the tensioner. I was trying to see how I could get it off without taking to much apart. Thank God it was only the pulley.
Very good explanation, Thank You so much
Good demo and a big help :)

Thanks brother help so much

Was it making noise? Or what was the reason it got replaced?
What’s wrong with the one you have?
I got that top bolt out in 30 minutes with snap-on XDHFM1011 flank drive wrench. Any 0 degree box wrench should do it
I did it in 10 counting the time to remove the head light assy, the core support, and the mount. You be the judge.
You may remove bearing from friction pulley and change it for much more cheaper i think.

You actually can buy the bearing. You just have to find it.

Let us know how it goes.

/watch?v=uTJvybZm-8o Was it the same sir?
what i learned... never buy a mini
Mini is a Problematic car and using fragile engine Plastic water pump
Do not buy in avoiding unnecessary repair
🤔 this has got to be a joke? You might as well just taken the nose of the car off and pulled the motor 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤮

Hey that's why I'm only the marginal mechanic
