      As a firefighter, we do not have any switch to turn off the DEF/ DPF systems. The only way our motors will derate is if we run out of DEF and the truck gets turned off. Max speed depends on the weight of the truck, it's either 68 or 62 mph.

    • @Tstuebben2197
      @Tstuebben2197 Před 11 měsíci

      We can’t turn off emission. But it will shed power to non essentials to keep the load down. But if we’re pumping at a fire the engine will melt itself down before the emissions puts it in limp mode. We’re also plagued with some units that always have to be placed in manual regen. And others that work and no issues.
      Also, I notice all of our ram medic units always say 0% on the Dpf filter. 5500 chassis, 2018 and newer. Dpf filters in tact, we run through def fluid like crazy, maybe a jug “2.5 gallon” every other day.

      @jhdieseland4x4 I’m a GM master tech and I’m the Duramax / medium duty guy. Yes the ambulances that have Duramax’s in them will not reduce speed when emission codes are set. It will display it on the IPC but they have special calibrations that don’t allow the speed to be limited for legal reasons lol. I have a 24 L5P and a 12 LML that was been tinkered with… the fuel economy of my LML is insane.

      The problem is they are penny wise and dollar stupid. I have no idea how a bunch of lobbyist can make laws and rules that are unjust when they have not a single clue how to even drive a car or truck. Well most of them. I wish we could start up a outreach program and get everyone from the automotive world to band together and fight this. Crazy how much it sounds like the mob shaking you down for money. They could fix this with training and education. Most of race cars run cleaner and burn less fuel after being tuned or deleted. All government vehicles are deleted but that’s ok.

    The messed up thing is that while you have the EPA cracking down on shops for emissions every single vehicle that the Department of Defense buys is marked For Export Only so they don't have to have to meet the emissions requirements that they are forcing on everyone else. That includes the vehicles that are used on stateside bases as well. It's a huge double standard. They have one set of rules for the public and another one for everyone else.

    Lightbulbs got redesigned to fail after so many hours after greed got involved... Everything else has caught up. Thanks Coop for sheding some light on the child and slave labor it takes to make them electric car batteries ! Good pod!

    • @fawnn1644
      @fawnn1644 Před 10 měsíci

      There is more to that lightbulb thing than that. Incandescent bulbs lose efficiency the longer you make them last (they put out significantly less lumens per watt) and on the other end, making them brighter means more lumens per watt but the filament burns out much faster because it's hotter. The companies made an agreement to make their lightbulbs last 1000 hours because it was a good balance of bulb life and efficiency. Granted they also leveraged their power to raise the price of lightbulbs so, there was still greedy motivations in there but it wasn't really this big case of planned obsolescence that everybody makes it out to be.

    Hey Cooper and Jh. Long time watcher first time commenter.. I've got a very interesting fact to go along with asphalt creating heat... so for the past 5 months I've been working in the HVAC world. Air Conditioning for those whom aren't aware. The way Central ac and heat work.. is Freeon runs through a coil inside your attic if you live in the south. The freeon removes the heat by boiling off and transferring that hear to your condensor outside. If you go outside and put your hand over your condensor.. you will fill the condensor fan blowing hot air.. that is the heat from within your house.. okay not multiply that ac system times every since house in North America. Now take into account some houses are so big they utilize 3 or more air handlers and condensors.. creating 3 or more times the heat depending on the number of condensors... all this said.. basically every air conditioned house is pushing heat into our atmosphere. Thats a staggering number.... bet the EPA will NEVER fine American house holds for having ac in their house...
    We could also talk about welding.... and oxygen acetylene torches.. thousands of degrees. DID the epa ever fine those trades... hell no. The fines were pushed onto people (the small guy) deleting DPFs, And Egrs.. that was all just a bullshit scape goat. Someone whether it be Obama or Biden our pos government just needed some more of the taxpayers money... as if they dont have enough... its a load of ish if you ask me..🎉

    On the Class 8 diesel side of things, i was a service writer for a small diesel shop that is a subsidiary of a trucking company. They run all peterbilts. During Covid, there was a serious issue with the sensor for the level and quality that sat inside the DEF tank. Basically they were all ticking time bombs. And when that sensor failed, the truck became a $200,000 paperweight.
    Well, COVID also meant parts shortage.
    I'm not proud of the things i did for a DEF level sensor.

      That varies wildly on the locale here in the US. Most of our fire departments are all operated at the _very_ local level, so if you have a local populace that either doesn't care or can't afford good equipment, then you get what you get. A lot of our firefighters are volunteers too, so we may pay for the equipment, but we take our chances on whether or not the public at large will actually step up to do the job. Lucky for us that it seems to work out alright most of the time. My local fire department seems to be very well funded and decently staffed.

Does not matter what brand good or cheap I bet 50% of the time the new parts I get are junk or fail prematurely. It's super frustrating. I really feel for people that pay shops for repairs cause the cost of labor comes out of their own pockets to pay the shop to replace that brand new part again. Being able to do my own work really saves me alot of money for that reason but regardless it's frustrating doing the job more than once do to junk parts.

    Great video. In my opinion people do want to work. They're just tired of doing it at a financial loss for someone who doesn't care about them or abuses them while simultaneously relying on them heavily. If companies treated their workers like the money they made them, this wouldn't be an issue. People are starving to be a part of something bigger without completely sacrificing their self-respect, personal time, and lives outside of work. Some people are ignorant and lazy, of course, but those are just leaves on the tree of problems and not the roots, so to say.
    They say all these kids trying to be youtubers or streamers are lazy, but I just see a bunch of kids emulating thier entertainment and wanting to do something they love instead of paying out the nose to drive to a job with no soul.

      Posted by someone who's no idea of what to takes to own, work in and run a business. I was owner operator of a 25 man concrete construction business from 1976 thru 2010. Finding people willing to work has been a continuing to worsen situation the last 20 or so years. I started at the bottom as a laborer in 1965 for $1.25 an hour,, worked my way up to journeyman making $7.00 an hour in the mid 70's. Decided I wanted to have something to say about my lifestyle and started my own business the summer of '76 with NO HELP about HOW to run the financial side of business,, struggled a lot,, made a ton of costly mistakes to learn what NOT TO DO but survived. Had to learn how to hire and keep good people and was successful financially for many years but in the early 2000's I started seeing a change in the work ethic of new hires. 2010 I handed my business over to my 2 foremen who had been with me for over 15 years and stepped away. They kept their business's going and are still going strong but I helped them with what they needed to know,, helped them not name many of the mistakes I made and they're both much, much more successful financially than I was which is a good thing. Both the guys tell me the quality and work ethic of people they hire now days is lousy. What happened? Liberals in Washington,, that's what happened.

    Not sure if it has been mentioned but in Australia we had an AdBlue (DEF) shortage. I’m not sure about personal vehicles but I know companies could get the emissions on truck and cars that used adblue temporarily removed/ turned off. The vehicle got put on a register and once the adblue had come back to normal you had to go get everything put back to normal. If you didn’t you’d be fined. The Adblue shortage wasn’t as severe as the first thought so it all turned out not to be a massive problem.

    that hybrid stock engine, lb7 crank, lbz/lml rods, lb7 pistons weve raced at 12-1300hp with all stock rotating assemblies. rods bend first but they live pretty long at that 1000-1100hp if you keep torque down in tuning/air setup

    41:20 Re: Emissions equipment on emergency vehicles... Once upon a time I worked with such vehicles and our engine calibrations at that time did not permit the ECU to override rated power for _any reason._ That means if you bought a 300hp school bus, ambulance, fire engine, etc it had to make rated power until mechanical failure. During my time in that industry those vehicles had varying shades of emissions compliance, but the power requirement was always in place. So, at least at the time, a switch to manually defeat emissions controls wouldn't have been necessary. If you put the go pedal on the wood, it was going to make full rated power or die trying. It's probably better to let mother Gia shed a few tears than have a bus full of kids get smashed by a train because the engine is stuck in a regen cycle.
    I'm also not sure if that was simply an orderable option that everyone happened to take or if it was a federal requirement, but at the minimum it was fully permissible to bypass all engine derating strategies, including emissions compliance, on emergency vehicles. This has been over 10 years ago though... just at the dawn of the SCR era.

    Some of these points are great and stuff ive said before. The toll that mining raw materials for EV takes. If EPA sets requirements for system. It should have a lifetime warranty paid from the EPA wallet.

    I received this in a email from SEMA
    Breaking News: Aftermarket Defeat Devices Removed from EPA’s Top Enforcement Priorities List
    The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency-proposed (EPA) released its final National Enforcement and Compliance Initiative (NECI) for 2024 through 2027, outlining the agency’s top enforcement priorities for the coming years. The EPA did not include “Stopping Aftermarket Defeat Device for Vehicles and Engines” on the NECI list. The agency returned enforcement of aftermarket parts to a standard “core” priority as it had been for many years until 2020.
    “The EPA’s decision to remove enforcement against aftermarket products from the NECI and return it to a standard priority is a recognition of our industry’s commitment to emissions compliance and the progress we’ve made,” said SEMA President and CEO Mike Spagnola.
