    Lincoln makes good welders. We have an old arc passed down in the family from the 1930's still working well. Great video here, you show every step of the way and how you got around challenges that arose in the project.

    You do good work, my friend!! I like the mechanical spring gate for your waste gate. Obviously, you'll have to dial it in. But, I like your thinking, in that, it is mechanical and not dependant on a solenoid to actuate, to increase of decrease your boost pressure. Good Job!!

    Appreciate the detailed video sir. I am considering the HE351 on my 1998 12valve. I tow a lot, and with my nv4500, I’d like as little lag as possible. I would probably run a traditional wastegate actuator myself.

    I have a 12 valve with a p pump, I wonder if I could just block both of the holes on the compressor housing and run waste gate with the pressure of the pump itself like it does with the WH1C that it has.

    Great video! I learned a lot. I'm trying to decide between upgrading my turbo to either an HX35 or 40. I already put in a fuel pin, 3200 rpm spring and timing advance. What are your thoughts? Thanks again for the great video!!

    • @themadmailler
      @themadmailler  Před 7 lety

      I don't know anything about the 40, all i can say is that i was pretty happy with my 35 with a 12cm exhaust housing! my 351 is OK, the pump currently needs some tuning to make it happier.

    i had the problem of my boots blowing off too when i threw on a hx35, so instead of buying "nicer" ones, i just went and had the tube ends flared out a bit. Hasnt been an issue since.

    • @themadmailler
      @themadmailler  Před 7 lety

      It would have helped if my ends were flared, but the boot that blew off was a smooshy old junk one and i think the oil from the leaking turbo helped it along too!

    • @easytopleez33
      @easytopleez33 Před 7 lety

      It helps to run a weld bead around the edge of the tube so as to act as a flare, simple fix.

    • @themadmailler
      @themadmailler  Před 3 lety

      I don't recall, I don't have the truck any more, but i believe the inlet was somewhere around 6:00. you'll need to modify your intercooler piping.

    • @2005jgross
      @2005jgross Před 2 lety

      Is that intercooler pipe from third GEN? I just bought a 62/71/12 it has a third gen Style outlet on the turbo and I don’t know how to hook up my inner cooler. I’m thinking a third GEN would line it up

  • @guzziexpress
    @guzziexpress Před 6 lety

    Hey boss, what upgrades did you have to make to the truck so you can run that turbo comfortably without having to worry about messing anything up

    • @themadmailler
      @themadmailler  Před 6 lety

      Nothing, but you should always add gauges when modifying these trucks. This turbo alone won't do much, you get more power from giving it more fuel. An upgraded turbo will be able to supply extra air to go along with extra fuel if you do fueling upgrades as well.

      Not yet, it's too cold out and i have too many other projects. As it is though, it's a lot better than the HX35 with the 14cm housing. You'll like these mods... turbo and intercooler really wake up the truck!

    • @subcummins0134
      @subcummins0134 Před 7 lety

      themadmailler That's good to hear. Also my stock injectors seem worn and I was debating on getting the marine 370's from the hungry diesel or just reman stock non intercooled. Not sure what would be better for towing. Thank you for input. And I sometimes forget that it's still winter time this time of year. It's 80 frigin degrees here in Houston today.

    • @themadmailler
      @themadmailler  Před 7 lety

      haha... we had a warm day here of about 45! The 370's work ok, sometimes i think that a 6X10 (370's are 5X12) injector would help with the haze i have - it only clears up when the motor is hot and at full operating temp.

      Ok thanks, will have to check mine so I got that correct. blowing massive impeneterable white clouds of smoke when I step on the gas after injector/turbo change. But no garage so thats for a warmer season.

    • @themadmailler
      @themadmailler  Před 7 lety +1

      strange. Maybe my studs are shorter and newer first gens differ from mine (i think mine was made february of 1989). And yes, as Jeremy said the spray patterns are different, and if you get aftermarket injectors you need to verify spray angle or you risk smoke, high egt's, etc.

    • @easytopleez33
      @easytopleez33 Před 7 lety

      Also need to remember that on the 1st gen NonIntercooled the Nozzle Diameter was bigger then on the later Intercooled Engines. As well as a different spray pattern.

    • @themadmailler
      @themadmailler  Před 7 lety

      The non-IC'd engines had a SMALLER nozzle diameter than the intercooled first gens. When i did my injector swap, I had to buy special bushings to drop down into the nozzle bore because the nozzle tips were sized for the IC'd trucks (Though the spray angle was still correct). I think the non-IC nozzles are 7mm and IC'd are 9mm, or somethine like that.
