The risks today are far greater than that of the 1930’s. The devastation that can be caused by one device alone, eclipse the 1930’s. Countries also didn’t have to deal with internal threats to the extent they do today.

Moscow adheres to the idea voiced by Russian President Vladimir Putin of creating a "buffer zone" in Ukraine to protect against long-range weapons, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said at a news briefing.
"With respect to this, nothing has changed," he said, replying to a question on the matter.
The Kremlin official added that the issue of fighting against long-range weapons being supplied to Ukraine and potential strikes on the areas where they are concentrated "is rather under the purview of the armed forces." "We are not qualified to say anything with respect to this," Peskov noted.
Earlier, CNN reported, citing sources in the US Congress, that the new US aid package to Ukraine includes ATACMS missiles with a range of 290 km. Earlier, Washington, wary of getting involved in a direct conflict with Moscow, restricted the range of missiles sent to Kiev to 160 km so that they cannot be used to hit Russian soil.

One of the few Tories fit for purpose in his former role. However the hollowing out of needs services and Brexit his government delivered have left the country less prepared for a conflict of anything but very small scale policing actions. The military is spread too thin ,must be either expanded or concentrated into one service ,after Brexit the Navy seems the most logical for combined arms deployment. Nuclear deterrent isn't stopping the conflicts , only creating Armageddon fears , which the west has appeased , more than resisted. The submarines and missiles still not in service required to balance the odds , nor does the U.K have civil needs services, like sufficient NHS nor military hospitals to cope with an extended conventional war, nor a working industrial base to support it. The reliance on financial services and property developers, over the last half century, creating a bubble of overpriced property while everything else is rotten. No real plan to change only more of the same leads to situation of Nuclear war being the only option if the U.S becomes isolationist and NATO fails to be an effective conventional deterrent to aggression stated and enacted, by leaders like Putin. New world order, like the League of Nation, shows the U.N failure to be consigned to the dustbin of history. Capitalism, and promises to pay money, are worthless without valid need goods to buy and sell. Th U.K is an aging overpopulated island of needs, not fulfilled by governments, supporting greed for wealth, over needs for people. Soapbox away.. The solutions are not being offered by current political elites.

Ah well. Though once again we've done virtually nothing to make sure we've kept our forces remotely well equipped and big enough to be able to meet our defence needs, at least this time it's not JUST us and the French who're uniquely culpable. The Germans now are at least as ludicrously unprepared as Britain AND France! So on the whole, it;'s a slight pity it'll be the Russians and/or Chinese we'll be facing this time round.😁😁

So an extra 0.5% spending on defence. Could be more if we didn't waste countless billions on illegal immigrants. So after 35 years of defence cuts, we are now going the other way. But 30 years of demolition will take 30 years to repair. We may be able to field one armoured division in 10 years' time.
