    You mentioned the 74-75 Caps setting the record for worst ever season and Greg Joly setting a record for worst plus/minus in a single game. So it is a little surprising you never mentioned that in that same year Caps defenseman Bill Mikkelson set an all time record for worst plus/minus in a season with a an all time low of a -82. Now, a lot of that had to do with playing on a team that gave up well over 200 goals more than they scored. But considering that there's been some historically awful teams since then, it's surprising that no one has come close to that record since it was set 48 years ago..

    • @cmreap
      @cmreap Před rokem

      On the one hand, plus-minus is really a team stat, not individual. On the other hand, any player who's given a plus or a minus is one of only five guys on the ice, so he owns at least 20% of that team stat.
      What makes plus-minus valuable is that it kinda sorta confirms what we suspected about a given player. The players who we know are good will have a high plus-minus, and the players we never think about have low (or negative) plus-minus.

    That Washington team was absolutely horrid. Expansion team and also decimated by WHA signings. Tom Williams was the captain of the Caps during this tenure. After losing nine days, the Caps won. Williams went to his locker, and brought out tin foil miniature Stanley Cup. One time after another long streak, he gave a "motivation" statement to this teammates. Those 1944 New York Rangers played in Detroit one game and got lit up 15 to 0. Managing 9 shots on goal with their own goaltender stopping 43 of 58 that Detroit peppered his crease with. Ten players scored for Detroit, with one hat trick by Sid (forget his last name) in the largest shutout ever in NHL history with it also being the largest margin of victory. Oh yeah, that game was only 2-0 DET after one period, and that hat trick was performed within the last 8 minutes of the contest.

    Dude, you’re completely butchering “Jolly”. That’s not how it’s pronounced at all, and you even spelled Joly as “Jolly” at one point 🤣
    You need to research a bit better.

    Player as bad as Daneyko wouldn´t play in todays nhl.

      that makes Crosby, Malkin, Letang Maroon, Kane, Toews as bad as Daneyko because they all have 3 Stanley Cups. So why are they still playing in todays nhl?

      This is a hot take. Daneyko was a good defenseman

    I mean in a way I feel like I don’t blame the coach who allowed the goalie to give up 15. I would just hope he talked to him after the 2nd period where he had already given up 10. If I’m the goalie i definitely feel hung out to dry by my team, but maybe if the coach comes over and is like “hey man I know it’s not all on you but I’m thinking of pulling you” the goalie himself is gonna answer. I would hope the coach did that.
