I just happened to be driving by with my film crew who caught this unrehearsed candid moment from multiple angles.
Yeah, in a neighbor he probably never drove through. It just so happens this guys needs cash and Chum works for a pawn shop. What are the odds?
@@Mattthejerkoff of course but we got to see a cool bike

"because if you want good employees, you have to PAY for good employees." this line was the truest thing I've heard in a long time
You can't be cheap with good employees, they're hard to come by. 1000 bucks after ten years is nothing.
1000 is 1 cent for them
They have mayb 20 30 mil. So 1000 is 00000.1%
Back in the day, this would be considered akin to the Polish lottery; $1.00 a year for a million years...lol
It’s scripted. He actually makes a lot of money from being a reality tv star. 🤦♂️

Well said old man. Speaking facts from beyond the grave lol
He was still alive when he said that
The Old Man was such a character, and absolutely hilarious.
And also by far the best negotiator in that store. What a badass.
All of the cast members on this show have their lines scripted and written for them.
It is all fake. They don't even work at the pawn shop and only film there about 1 to 3 days a month.
@@Chaoitcme I heard things definately changed after the show aired, but my gut tells me the old man was the exact same when they were actually just a pawn shop.
You believe what you want though.
@@Chaoitcme Doesn’t take away the fact that that man started that pawn shop and ran it for over twenty five years before the show started, so OP is right still lollll. Also, if you watch any of the pre show footage that’s around online, you’ll see the Old Man’s personality was definitely very real.
I love how the old guy just conveniently has a legal issue coming up so that he can sell it
Maybe that’s the reason he wanted to sell it rather than keep it ?? Lol
AK.HAVIN.1K problem was he didn’t have it up for sale before and just happens to be outside cleaning it

Best quote ever
Back in my day a bouns meant you could still stand after a hard day's work.
-The old man
That's heavy.
@@steven984 I'm pretty sure he was speaking random and heavily exaggerating. If people couldn't stand after a hard day's work if there wasn't a bonus, then no one would be able to get home after work. I bet you anything the old man was still standing after any day's work and still getting home afterwards, whether he received a bonus or not.
Everybody in here gets above minimum wage dad,

I respect Rick so much more after hearing his stance on paying decent wages. Awesome.
Underrated comment right here.
Talk is cheap.
He actually educated his own father on it, so old people don't always know everything.
I think this was the best reactions that the old man has given in any episode!!!👏
0:30 that music instantly reminded me of It´s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Charlie and Mac walk into the bar and Frank is sitting there with his toe knife, digging away at his foot. Dee and Dennis walk in a few moments later and immediately start arguing about something that happened earlier in the day.
That music is great
The old man was classic we still remember you 🔥🙏🏼✌🏼
“ in my day a “bonus” meant you could still stand after a hard days work”😂
I'm pretty sure people still stood after any day's work, bonus or not, or else they wouldn't have been able to get home after work. Some older people like to exaggerate and speak random things.
Old man: I’ve had it my whole life it be hard to part with, wanted to pass it on to the grandchildren
Chum: how muc-
Old man: $20,000
HAHA IKR MONEY COMES BEFORE EVERYTHING
so sad to the grandkids could have held on to that thing and had so much money
@@anthonymarinaro3178 And that's one of the reasons why Grandpa has no problem with selling his bike-- if nobody is truly interested in the bike for itself and will just sell it anyway why shouldn't he sell it himself?
Plus the grandkids line could've just been a bargaining tactic.
Old man: "In my day, a bonus meant you can still stand after a hard day's work" 😂
3:19 something a lot of bosses should hear!
I’m convinced that while this show is scripted, no one told the Old Man, and his reactions are genuine to everyone else being filmed reading scripts.
The second Chum said “This is a thousand bu-“
Old Man went “*WHAT?*”
Well the thing is, the show is scripted but they're allowed to say whatever they want for the most part. I know that all of the deals are real, everything is agreed upon before and every person on screen is vetted before being allowed on the show. They purposely bring some historical items that don't sell for educational purposes (it's on the History channel, after all).
The on-screen interactions are a mix of rehearsed and candid. If the candid take is fine they keep it. If not, they try again and stay somewhat accurate to the original interaction.
Using this episode as an example, Chumlee might have legitimately been driving by and saw this bike outside and went up and talked to the dude, but what we see on the screen isn't the real first meeting. If he drove by and saw the dude, he talked to him, they sold the bike, he asked if he could film a recreation, and that's that. It's normal for people to change the on-screen reason for selling the item. Maybe they need to post bond for their brother, but they don't want to say that on TV so they say they want to go on a vacation or something.
Anyway point being, what the Old Man and all of them say is pretty true to themselves and many of the recordings of their actions and interactions are candid, and the rest are re-takes on reality or with some small change to improve delivery or comedic timing. I think the biggest difference between all of them is what they want their on-screen persona to be. During this era, Chumlee is obvious being a gigantic troll. My guess, the Old Man wasn't putting on a persona. They probably took more of his original candid takes because he didn't care how perfect they were, while with Rick you can tell he wanted everything to be really cohesive and would have rehearsed the things he said.
"I swear if idiots could fly, this would be an airport." 😂😂😂
"He works hard alright."
"But a thousand dollars?"
i actually think the old man is still thinking in terms of how much the USD was worth when he was younger. when he was in his 20s and 30s a thousand U.S. dollars was quite literally the equivalent of like 30-40 grand today. so to him it feels like a lot more money than it does to the others who are used to it feeling like less.
and RIP to the old man...the only tolerable character that always drops gems
One of the best shows ever. And pretty educative plus funny show. The old man rocks

I'm surprised they got that for $8,700 usually a Bowden spacelander really doesn't sell for no more than from the prices I've seen no more than 12 to $13,000 and besides that to the components on the bike like the fenders the frame are made of fiberglass and it's not really meant for somebody over 85 lb to ride a bicycle like that I know one maybe two people that have that particular 1960 model Bowden spacelander and believe you me they don't ride them at all just occasionally take it out to a bicycle show and swap meet to show them off.
