We paid $26 to sleep in a First Class Cabin on Bangladesh's 100 year old "Rocket Paddle Steamer"! Would you do it?
We are currently in our 97th country of Bangladesh, and after spending our first 2 days in the crazy city of Dhaka, we boarded this 100 year old ship to sail overnight to Barisal. Paddle steamers have been traveling Bangladesh’s rivers since the early 1900s, but today there are only 3 left in service. The river is filled with hundreds of modern ferries that are faster and more comfortable, but tonight’s journey isn’t about the speed or the comfort, it’s about experiencing a way of travel that has remained unchanged for almost 100 years!

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the #travel bug! We started “travel hacking” & finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this #travelvlog to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling! So we extended our 1 year trip to now FOUR years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before 2020! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

I don't know why but this Bangladesh series has been the most inspiring thing you guys have posted in a while (and you post a lot of inspiring stuff) - maybe it's just the totally diving in and doing things with the locals in a place where that's not necessarily easy. That and translating the beauty in the chaos through the video. Really makes me want to visit Bangladesh and see all this for myself.
Also I'm seriously wondering what your guide thinks of this - looks like you dove in a bit harder than he expected.
You are most welcome in Bangladesh. From a Bangladeshi.and avoid Dhaka. Because lot of developing works going on our capital.

It’s incredible how you find something so pure in every situation; like we take clean air and sanitary things for granted and when we’re exposed to “unclean” things, we tend to think negatively but you two find something positive. Great travellers. Showing your fans the different realities within one world.

We went on the rocket steamer in Bangladesh a couple of years ago. Such a great experience! It was really cool to see the parts of the boat that we didn't explore when we were there.
Hope you guys had a good time while you were here. Love & respect from Bangladesh
It's so sweet how they respect the different cultures, the manner in which they immerse themselves into local areas, without judgement or reservations. Very admirable.
Kara is always so positive! It’s refreshing to see such genuine happiness over very little. Most people would be to scared to stay that ship, but you guys always see everything in such a positive light. I love it.
It's awesome because that's the culture of Bangladesh. People are not rich but very happy.
Why people are gonna be scared to stay on that ship ?

Bangladesh should be appreciated for maintaining and operating a 100 year steamer and using it. The Government should be praised for keeping its tradition. Love from Pakistan.
Because they need as many boats as possible, the country is a delta of 3 main river systems and countless tributaries and canals...living in Bangladesh is like living in a island and travelling to other islands for Job, shopping and other life activities, the main transport system is based on river network...
The Bangali people are the sweetest. Loving rewatching your time there. It definitely didn’t come across as if you were taking your room for granted, but it really shows your genuine considerate nature to mention it. My favourite travelling duo!

It is called "Steamer Rocket" because in 1928 (when it first started), it was the fastest mean to travel (that's why rocket) and it used coal to power its steam engines (that's why steamer). Later in the 1980s, all of them were converted to diesel engines.
Ah, diesel! I was wondering about that, thanks!
