@@blightchip4236 So was the Paul Allen killing, and the chainsaw scene. He only killed the homeless guy and the woman at the crossing at the start. The rest was fabricated
@@unitedweimprove750 Yes my mom saw me on the floor doing what she described as Brealdancing after watching this video (I'm epileptic, and no I'm not one of those people with epilepsy who get a seizure from flashing lights)
In my opinion this movie only wants to show us how thin the line is between sociopathy and psychopathy in our modern capitalist world. Think about the business card scene and our current social media platforms. Everyone is trying to show who has the best photo, the best vacations, the best car... There are millions of Batemans scrolling their social media apps and looking at it the way Patrick looked at Paul Allen's card. This book/movie aged really well.
I don't see Bateman as simply sociopathical or psychopathic, and I think to do so misses the point. To me he's an embodiment of the Dionysian, animal aspect of man reasserting itself in reaction to a spiritually vacuous, degenerate society. He's an exaggerated expression of the environment he lives in.
@@rexnemorensis8154 I understand, but you're simply wrong. Take a look at every Bateman's work colleagues. They all share the same traits. Everyone of them is shallow and jealous of each other. The lack of empathy is tremendously enormous. Think about all the conversations Patrick had with his secretary throughout the movie. That's sociopathy at its best. "An exaggeration of the environment he's in"? Maybe, but no.
i think it was about people becoming objects and a world where people are deifned only by objects, and that their own identity doesnt matter and therefor you can never express what you are or feel. that is why batemen never got chaught no matter how much and how extreem the things he did were, even when he confesses. because the people dont matter but the objects do.
No the kills didn't happen in reality. The movie goes on to show how everyone puts on a fake persona to fit in an utopian capitalist society, where everyone and everything is the same. Patricks insanity derives from his real self behind the social mask, a way of escaping the world. An example of how everything is in his head and the kills didn't happen, was the bartender scene, where he ordered drinks and while the bartender was preparing them, he looked and said "I would like to murder you and play around with your blood" (not accurate, it was something like that I don't remember clearly), but she has no reaction, even though he said it. Plus that Paul Allen is alive and well. The movie basically tells us, that people put on fake personas, but behind the mask could be all kinds of psychos.
