  • "There Stands the Glass" was written by Russ Hull, Mary Jean Shurtz and Audrey Greisham. Originally recorded by Blaine Smith in 1952, it was a hit for Webb Pierce in 1953. Both versions are fantastically beautiful, it's a shame this one is so hard to find. Enjoy!

This is my grandfather! I just realized some of his songs were on CZcams! I'd love to find clips of his show, "The Cactus Kiddi Club."

This song was covered by so many huge country stars, but none ever came close to capturing what your grandpa did. So ridiculously musical.

Hello Sarah and my name is Mark Spitzer and I live in Harrisonburg Virginia and I believe your grandfather used to play on WHSV TV or it was wsva in Harrisonburg back in the late '50s early 60s on Saturday night in the program was called the barn dance because my family has told me about this my dad was a musician who played music behind your grandfather. His name was Duty Downs he was a bass player.

@@sarahfuquay5653 well I don't think there's any video of it there might be a picture or two I got to do some research. In the archives I believe that WHSV would have or wsva. The other thing I'm trying to confirm and my family who used to watch the show on Saturday night my dad's younger brothers and sisters and when they played music on there I do believe the first time that the Statler Brothers ever performed on a TV station before they actually become popular was on wsba and that was the house family Blaine Smith sorry I don't always use the proper punctuation

Webb added a couple IV chords that definitely improve the song
