When I stopped complaining and/or participating in talks with coworkers who were complaining, they said they felt I was stuck up and blackballed me as someone who was against them and I wasn’t…even though one of them blatantly outed one of our other teammates with our boss!!! I’ve continued to refrain from that kind of communication and their judgements continue as well. It’s so wrong. My job has certain values and I honestly live those values, but it does not feel like all of them do and it’s really sad. Thank you for sharing your experiences and advice❤️

I got a call for a complaint happening at work this morning, while I'm off today.
I'll stop complaining about work when I know it should affect me.
I will become more thankful for the family I have who hear me, sit with me, and pray with me for a another day done in peace.
I will listen to more audios that are lifting my soul and spirit no matter the genre.
I will set my goals straight and prioritize what is most important to me at work.
I will speak out more to my colleagues and listen more.
    Motivate myself. Motivate others.
Prevent myself from giving into the negatives and focus on the positive matters at hand and move forward.

Thank you for the video I’ve been having a really rough time lately - toxic workplace... I’m a very happy person generally but have been going through a lot of stress and take anti depressants. I previously had a discussion with my workplace (6 months ago) that there is a lot of negativity in that workplace and that it really needs to end to have a good work environment. Nothing changed... but now I have been singled out as the issue. Thanks for the reminder to stay calm put a big smile on and get out ASAP.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. There is a lot of discussion about toxic workplaces, but not the real mental health implications. I know people who have experienced PTSD from toxic companies/bosses.
Focus on what is good in your life, take time and do the things you need to decompress and don't chastise yourself for it), and optimize your search to get out ASAP!

She was a terrible fit for the company and for me, but I repeated a gratitude mantra over and over, focusing as much as I could on the good aspects, her positive qualities, etc. (it was not easy, not gonna sugar coat it). I was able to "cope" until she was ultimately pushed out within a year. After that, the company decided they didn't need to fill that position again, so they gave the duties to myself and a coworker, we both got promotions and my current boss is amazing.

He use to be fine with me and then suddenly he just switched how he interacted with me. I only found out it was because I am a happy person by my captain. I brought it up to my captain about how I asked my co worker if he was upset with me and he told me no, but the way he is behaving to me is obviously different and more aggressive than he use to treat me. My captain told me I've done nothing wrong and that it's just the co worker being weird. I will stop complaing, be more grateful, and give people more grace at work. I realize that my frustration really comes from customers interrupting me doing my job all the time to ask me questions that I believe are common sense and to ask me where everything in the store is. I have to remind myself that people just don’t know and to not let it get to me and hold so much power over me.

Thank you and greetings from Algeria :-)

Hello Jennifer! thanks for the amazing video!
i currently work at one of the biggest medical corporate in South Korea.
in this industry in south korea is competitive and i should've to work 8 to 8(technically 8:30 to 20:30) in the office. newbie worker is divided into 3 different rank. and we call lowest one as 6level and he got paid lowest as well. and i'm 6 level in the office and people in the office likes me because i work hard more than anyone else as well as i get paid lowest.(so i could catch many people see me with the pathetic eyes) even once i threw up at the toilet because of the hard working. and i often gets headache because of the pressure and stress.
i can go through hard working. but what i can't stand is bad gossip in my department. right behind me is one of our corporate's executive and he is our teamleader. he always do cursing words through the phone and i saw many times he yells at another teamleader or senior coworker who i like in the office. i don't quite understand why on earth he thinks another departments as a rival or enemy. i supposed to be sent to China to work there but he personally called me and he was like "i badly needs you" and stares at me which is implied "if you refuse it, you will regret so bad".
only because of that one person, i badly want to quit my job. but i can't! because of the financial matter and covid19 makes me to get a new job hard!
dang it.. i should've to try to survive tomorrow again.
thanks again for nice video Jennifer! ;)

The unsteadiness from COVID and career and economic impacts has thrown a wrench in many's plans. Stay active in your search as much as you can; the best thing you can do is grow your network right now... you'll uncover opportunities.
I want you to make sure you're taking note daily of positive impacts your having as well. What you described from your supervisor, I think this will help you maintain your confidence in your awesome self, and will give you a record to cite.

I was the light at work for some time until my toxic boss noticed and in hopes of becoming positive herself, instead transmitted negativity my way. My question is, how can this be prevented? I’ve worked at several jobs where people seem to seek out the positive person who is calm, reassuring, and at peace to talk and vent to. I want to help them, but in the end it’s me who ends up carrying their load. I’m at loss on what to do so it doesn’t happen in my next job.

    • @JenniferBrick
      @JenniferBrick  Před 3 lety +5

They're attracted to you because you are safe and positive. I suspect you're an empath.
One perspective shift is that carrying the load with them is enabling a situation where they aren't thriving because they are supported.
Give space if you want but it's not necessary. And hold them accountable to resolve their issues because they aren't yours.

This is something I know it's so frustrating when you work with non technical users who don't understand limits.
Sometimes a tiny bit of education, can help.
Also acknowledging it's a great idea, but not currently an option, and then offer an alternative. Basically, yes and them.
