Same exact situation as a decade ago when EU decided to outright ban every Chinese-imported solar panel.
      Guess why they did that?
Because they were "too cheap" so local EU solar companies couldnt compete..
We could have had our entire cities caked in affordable solar panels by now. But profits were more important than energy (or the environment).

Hello Billy. This was well done! It is really sad and pathetic to see DJI competitors go to this extreme to eliminate them from the American drone market. Not surprising though. Human behavior and selfishness is downfall to most if not all things here on earth. The map of restricted geo zones is in the drone's memory. It doesn't need a real-time data link. Even if you don't own a drone yet you can get the DJI Fly app and check out the map showing the red, restricted zones (prisons, airports etc.), the blue 'authorization' zones (permission needed - okay, yes, an internet connection IS needed to get a three day 'license' to unlock these areas.)
Another commenter noticed that a 30 day timer seems to disable the remote controller, requiring you to 'phone home' (connect to DJI's servers) but I don't remember it needing to do that before 'Remote ID' was implemented.. Anyone?

@billykyle The bad thing is like you said, the American built drones are STRICTLY for recreational use, they are indeed too toylike. I bought one at Toys R Us (back when it was open) when I wanted to learn and teach myself how to fly a drone. As I got more serious about drones, I bought a Yuneec Q500 4K (another company based in China). And as I got more into drones, the name DJI kept popping up. After research and seeing the camera quality, I decided to get one from DJI. And it's awesome!! It's a shame that these claims are most likely from an agenda to lodge the company from dominance in the market. But I thought this is America, where free market is king. American companies need to up their game, to create bigger and better drones for professionals, prosumers and recreational users. It will be interesting to see what happens today. Thanks Billy for a great video regarding the matter, from the DJI usage perspective

I agree with the video. I think all the users of DJI should be aware of the security that is provided by DJI is safe for them and be aware of the politics that is going on which has really no transparency showing that they have found some insufficient security in DJI. It is all politics for promoting the comprehensive have no technological excellence and can't find away to win the market. I wouldn't trustSkydio. I called them a year ago to find d their pricing plan and it took such a long time to get the details. And in few month they dropped their consumer drone line. How can we trust Skydio on the long-time support. On the other hand DJI is coming out with the newer software and hardware every year. I think there should a legal way to challenge this bill. The public representative should be more transparent to the people who they represent and not to the comprehensive funded their elections. It is just disgusting and disappointing on the pub!if representative who are sitting in for us. I am with DJI and I hope everything goes right way at the end. What are the claims though? That DJI shares your email adress or your flight logs?
That really wouldnt be very useful, apart from showing squiggly lines concentrated over tourist areas on the map.
The real thing that is being insinuated to scare people, is the fantasy of "omg DJI tracks everything the camera records and sends back to CCCP in realtime".
Because that's the one thing that would ACTUALLY matter, right?
That is, physically impossible, by the laws of electromagnetism...
Are these people actually thinking that the drone or controller radio transmitter is powerful enough to connect to a satellite in orbit for a 1080p realtime video feed?
Or are they actually living in the fantasy of thinking every consumer DJI drone has a secret quantum-tunneling device installed that relays back video footage directly to China via quantum entanglement?
I mean can we just openly talk about this?
Because if we openly talk about this, you realize how batshit insane the claims are.
Thats why the push on this has been so vague to just say "data security concerns".
"The Chynese are SPYIN on us". Okay, how exactly? Tell me how it specifically would work.
If you actaully ask how it would physically happen, the whole fantasy falls apart.

CORRECTION: we do need to connect our DJI controller to the internet in order to ‘unlock’ the drone due to DJI’s geofencing program. If they eliminate that then we would only have to connect to the internet when we first activate the drone.

This Bill is absolutely nonsense. How can a bill be passed with out any evidence of wrong doing?? This is bullying, senators should be ashamed to back legislation that is being used for all the wrong purposes.

All the drone "influencers" need to step up and make it clear the political source of these bills. I know it doesn't lend itself to popular appeal, but this is mostly coming from one party.

USA companies...... "if you can't compete, ask your government to defeat" has been done with other companies, AND ideas, throughout the years. Instead of bettering ourselves, we cry and throw tantrums until our "daddy" fixes it for us. That's why we are falling behind in tech, education, manufacturing, and a lot of other areas. In order to be better, DO better.

I have watched, or tried to, a couple of your drone videos. I think some of them are interesting with the info you offer. Unfortunately you just talk way too fast which makes it a little hard to understand everything you are saying and then after awhile it becomes annoying so I just leave that video. I’m not trying to be mean, just offering information to you. If you didn’t talk so fast I would probably watch your videos. I know we are all different and that’s probably just how you talk. So again not trying to be mean just letting you know. Have a good day.

I was engaged in a previous effort to address federal regulations on drones. From first-hand experience, I can tell you there is nothing you can do. DJI is almost certainly cooked, and it will be a welcome and necessary change to return the innovation we sold to China. I am underinformed on the details, yet I could run circles around that guest with facts and DJI history. I am proud to be the dissenting voice, standing up for freedom and privacy and not giving it all to a PRC-controlled company that has chronically lied to users and government officials.

I'm listening. Our echo chamber needs outside voices like yours. Got my first drone a year ago and thought, to quote David Letterman: "This is more fun than humans should be allowed to have."
