Bach - Cantata Gott, man lobet dich in der Stille BWV 120 - Van Veldhoven | Netherlands Bach Society

  • The only parts that Bach definitely wrote especially for 'Gott, man lobet dich in der Stille', performed by the Netherlands Bach Society for All of Bach, are the recitatives and the final chorale of the piece. Although the opening aria and the ensuing chorus for a large group of musicians to the words ‘Rejoice, you joyful voices’ correspond closely to the text, Bach initially did not compose them for these words. The latter and other remaining parts were borrowed from his earlier pieces.
Recorded for the project All of Bach on March 15th 2014 at St Martin's Church, Groningen. If you want to help us complete All of Bach, please subscribe to our channel bit.ly/2vhCeFB and consider donating bit.ly/2uZuMj5.

Between timing 16'14" and 17'14" there is one of the most admirable page written by Johann Sebastian Bach. The vocal line unexpectedly moves towards the high tessitura after a passage of poignant tenderness. Rarely does one find a writing of this power in all 18th-century music: a wing stroke of a genius!

Not natural trumpets! Bach's trumpeters never had side holes to simplify their task. These are "baroque" trumpets, a modern invention with an effective PR campaign. If you see a player using one hand to play-Jean Francois Madeuf, for example- they are natural trumpeters. That said. these players are highly skilled.

That chorus 5:42 is amazing! Enormously difficult to sing, but very well performed!

This is one of your better performances. A very strong showing from the soloists, vocal and instrumental.

Damien Guillon toujours grand, même si cette belle cantate soie ou non du grand maître, Bach.Quelle voix!

Bravo! Thank you for your beautiful performance. Also, I was so surprised (and delighted) by the unexpected trumpet and drum fanfare at the end!

And then, after a stunning BWV120, the trumpets casually drop the most beautiful rendition of C.P.E. Bach's Marsch Fur die Arche at 21:12
    Just...wow

Meraviglia assoluta !
