Much respect! Love your taste in mods, many go overboard when restomodding, but you've managed to find a beautiful balance between having flash and restraint
So Glad you are doing well with your channel Jeff, you have done a lot of work to get to this point so you deserve it.
Hey Jeff, you and Mrs Jeff are fast becoming CZcams celebrities👍👍😁😁. Great video
The time lapse of the Porsche blowing up you can thank Jalopnik and other auto blogs for. Once I saw the timelaspe I subscribed because I love your content.
Thanks for coming along :D
Looking awesome, metal work continues to be amazing to watch.
Period correct is the period correct way of saying, "as the young ones do"
My god am i so happy i found this series.
The mouse traps i would crawl over just to sit in a 240 let alone own one
Definition of quality great works men ship 🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯🔥🔥🔥
Thanks mate.
I’m here because of your podcast with Bram, I’m staying because the content is awesome!
Awesome work as usual.
Brilliant work, the Z is my dream car, and hopefully I can meet my target of getting it in two years time. Much respect to the work you do, such an inspiration!
Thanks mate. Keeping motivated for your goals is the key.
Maybe your best video yet ! Loved the tempo
i like the flares, totally awesome. Congrats on no more rust!
Hope and wish you to create your own prototype one day. People like you with both creative and practical mind are rare. Thumbs up from a Greek petrol-head
Maybe. it is not out of the realm of possibility.
Yess, Jeff it happened your channel is starting to grow fast now!
YAY rivnuts! Great video that has to be a good feeling taking care of the last bit of rust, nice job.
Oh, yeah. Now it is full steam ahead!
Chanel subs doubled in only a few days! Well done Jeff
Yeah, it has been a crazy week!
Doubled? I don't understand how this chanel don't have 200k by now with such high quality content.
Thanks for another excellent video.
Wow,, Jeff is a great craftsman.
Hammerite kurust has always done the job for my body shop. Very thin milky formula turns rust black then do whatever you want after that preferably epoxy primer or seam sealer. Keep up the good work👍🏻
Thanks mate. Anything you use to actually spray into cavities you can't reach?
Home Built By Jeff
If you can’t get to it cavity wax through cavity gun it has a long thin pipe usually only 5mm diameter with lots of holes at the end , feed it in and spray usually best if it’s warmed up first to do it finds it way into all crevices but I’d wait till all painting is done it can have silicone in it depending on brand, which will cause problems for painting .You could always spray the kurust down first to stop any rust and hold it off a bit then cavity wax after. Stone guard under neath or ever better is raptor coating it’s a strong polyurethane texture coat looks like linex except not as expensive. Any other questions I’m happy to help Jeff 👍🏻
Not sure if you saw but your 911 build video was picked up by Jalopnik -- congrats on the influx of viewers, you've earned it! I've been loving this channel for the last year, look forward to the next 911 update. And next time you're in Marblehead, let me know!
Thanks mate. It has been shard by Jalopnik, Road and Track, Car Throttle, Hoonigan, Dupont registry and many others. This week has been crazy! I thought it would be a popular video, but nothing like the 12+ million views it has had so far.
Holy shit man, hopefully that means an increase in shirt sales! You should considering selling a Home Built shop overalls like the guys with the British guys with the crazy awd mini build wear. I'd love a set for when I'm wrenching -- I've destroyed a few too many pairs of jeans.
hi jeff been watching since epp 2 .. and still enjoy your vid's :P
Thanks for sticking it out with us.
think this was recomended cus of another 240z vid i watched, so far i like what i see so have a sub, im off to find episode 1 :P
Well done on the all the views for the Porsche, well deserved ! Loving the Datsun build too mate. Any news on when the engine for the Porsche will arrive?
Still waiting.
POR 15 is the best I've ever used, for that sort of application. It's my understanding that moisture helps the curing process of the product .Its only real shortcoming is that it is not as effective where UV sunlight is present
muy buen vídeo felicitaciones
Nice job on the fender flares. Always a bit scary cutting into a quarter panel
POR 15 make a product called SW20 which can be sprayed into panels. It can seep in via capillary action. Also, well done on the big increase in views, definitely deserved as you are my favourite channel.
Thanks mate, I will check it out.
Hi Jeff. I know you've done a panel beating vid on your tools but if you have time it would be great to see a video on the basics of how you tackle a dented panel and some of the techniques you use. Also what size sheet metal do you use? Great vid as always. Frank
That is a good point. I will look at doing that.
Sheet metal is 0.8mm
Jeff has sent the standard for channels I'll subscribe to.
Unlike some dude picking his car up from a dealer asking for likes and subscribes... I don't want to encourage lazy CZcamsrs to make more trash vids.
Thanks mate. It is a lot of work putting out this level of video every week, so I am happy it is appreciated.
Personally if I was doing the car to sell, I wouldn’t have cut out those arches.
I have painted and kept the arches so they can be re-attached by a future owner if they choose ;)
Spray-in Cavity Wax, Jeff. It'll reach places other stuff can't. I really hope you kept the pieces of guard you cut out, so that someone can relatively easily fix the car and put it back to stock sometime in the future. I'm yet to be convinced hacking into the bodywork is a good idea. But your car, so you go for it!
Yes, the pieces are staying with the car, and these type of flares were actually sold as a factory option in the day, so it is still a period correct mod.
Jeff, what do you like to listen to when you're working? Great content on your channel!!
Podcasts. Smoking Tire, Overcrest, EveryDay Driver, Spikes Car Radio, etc.
Hey Jeff. Love the channel mate. You’re such an inspiration. I’m currently in the process of restoring my 240z also. I have bought the ZG flares for the car. But unsure if you have to cut away the original arches or not. I’m getting mixed opinions. Can yourself or anyone watching help me decide if I can get away with not cutting the original arches or not. Thanks and keep the videos coming 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
If you keep narrow wheels or keep a very tall ride height and never hit any big bumps, otherwise you will do more damage when the wheel hits the arch.
Hey Jeff, love this build. May I ask which flares you bought? I'm trying to choose some for my 260z.
I changed those out for ZG flares
"Corrosion X" for the rust spray. Will migrate into all the nooks and crannies. Polar bonds to the metal. Stays in place for years. Used in the aviation industry, RAAF, NAVY etc.
I will have a look, thanks.
Love the channel and the builds! I’m working on a 280z myself but have had issues burn holing through the sheet metal... what size welding wire are you using? Thanks, your progress keeps me motivated.
I use 0.8mm wire on a very low setting. You have to take it slow, because as you know it is very easy to blow through.
Thanks, I’ll lower my settings and take it even slower.
Just got a chance to watch and subscribe to your channel. What brand flares did you use?
ZG in the end
I’m only watching this because of Mrs. Jeff...
... well almost just that ;)
Great work as always Jeff! How thick is your panel steel you are using for repairs?
I am using 0.8mm steel sheet for the repairs.
Thanks Jeff.
Hi Jeff,
Great work. Is that bolt box JapIsoMetric or IsoMetric?
Fyi, the difference is that JapIsoMetric has 1mm smaller head/bolt size for the same isometric thread. It was designed so as to reduce steel usage during ww2. Allied forces did the same.
This is why when you buy metric bolts from the local shop (supercheap, universal fasteners etc) you end up using a larger spanner size than you'd expect on Japanese cars. I personally source all JapIsoMetric stuff as the spanner sizes are typically 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 17mm and 19mm; but I end up using 11 13 15 etc when I've mixed and matched and it breaks the rhythm when spinning spanners as you can't just eyeball the hole size and know what spanner/socket to grab as you've now got 2 sizes to contend with.
That is very interesting. I believe it is all normal Isometric. That would explain why when I put the bonnet on when I was paking up, I noted that the bolt heads protrude too far and are interfering with the bonnet either side.
Home Built By Jeff yep that'd mostly be it.
I'm a diyer working on toyota, subaru and Mitsubishi for the past decade or so.
Keep up the great work
I'm about to start stripping my 240z back to bare metal. Did you seal the bare metal after it was stripped back to stop the rust from starting?
No. I left it until I was ready to epoxy it and then I rust treated it.
What size flares are these
where can i find this kit?
Where'd you get those flares? they look quite flexible i'd think they are fiberglass.
I got them from ebay. They are actually plastic, so they are very flexible, which is great when fitting them.
Jeff for anti rust treatment try looking at buzzweld and there W.A.R package
I will check that out.
Looks like good stuff, thanks.
Would gun oil work? idk Nice video though
we subbed only for mrs jeff
hope you drill the holes so they are ready for the rivnut´s before the paint he he i do like the flares they look killer but cutting it up hurt´s he he as always keep up the good work regards sören
ps. i think you will regreat not opening the rear to get the last rust out, and i mean you cause it´s not my car and iam more in to vw/audi/porsche but still like the 240z it has a nice sheap like the toyota cab from james bond
I will treat it internally, so hopefully it will stop the rust.
ok
Nice Porsche
Use Eastwood products for the rust.
Love the channel! What happened to the rust converter???????
I will be doing the whole car at once and then paint it immediately.
Is it still as effective when you put primer on the inside???
I will be coating the insides of the panels in some sort of sealer product to be determined.
Some people mix ATF with acetone so it'll penetrate and carry the ATF in the crevices.. I wonder if you could use acetone to carry grease in a similar fashion? Grease would stick and stay there.
I don't think that would be a great long term solution, as in the heat here is will just end up oozing out.
Well from my experience, oil will just end up leaking out somewhere. Grease will stick there. But i think there are some products specifically for these applications.
If there is water getting in there, your best bet is to find out where it's getting the water or making drain holes.
After owning 3 different Z31s, Im suprized I never knew about the production numbers.. That to me is really suprizing because in the Z community its considered the Red Headed Step Child (or bastard child) of the Z family.. IMO they where the last true Z car before they super complicated them.
I learn so much researching these Fun Facts
7 million views? Says 174k? Anyways. Love the vids!
It is currently over 12 million from all of the reposts I have seen. Over 11m alone on Car Throttle
facebook.com/carthrottle/videos/vb.113741208636938/1895416810469360/?type=2&theater
edit: I meant to say over 13m
Home Built By Jeff Kinda sucks that you didn't get any ad revenue from it :/
True, but it is exposure to hopefully grow this channel.
Fergusons ko 66 is what i used for protecting cavities. Supercheap sell it
I will have a look.
Hi Jeff, curious if you painted the Porsche badge in the back of the shop? Looks really sweet. Would love to put a copy of that in my Garage. Cheers
Yep. I was a professional airbrush artist for 13 years. There is actually a video of me painting it if you have a look at my early videos.
Wow! Awesome. I'll check out the vid. Cheers
Speaking of "half head pop ups", just kidding guys!!!
You do realise that if those tartan tshirts sell its going to become your signature and will have to be applied to the Datsun and Alfa as well. I don't think even my Krytonian constitution can take it 😱. Has Mrs Jeff decided which car she's having yet?
That is the plan ha ha Ha HA (evil laugh).
You will have to wait and see ;)
Home Built By Jeff omg. Have you, have you joined the legion of super evil? Intent on smothering the world in lurid tartan?!? I may well have to put my eyeballs up on ebay.... 🙄
Hey Jeff,
this may be what you're looking for... www.eastwood.com/eastwood-internal-frame-coating-14oz-aerosol.html you can also buy the nozzle separately and use with a aerosol of your choice.
Cheers
Order a pandem kit for the fairlady z pls
They are too over the top for me. I like this more classic style better.
Pfff i want a 240z ore 280z so bad.. and i want to put in the time but the rust is holding me back from buying it
Did I just saw Mrs. Jeff flirting with me!?!
Fish oil? Omega 3's good for the health of everything!
This is how to do a youtube channel
Well I was going to do my math homework...
No flares!!! Looks way better without!
My fender wells are rusted to hell amd not even I’m cutting them off my 71 z 😑
Awesome fabrication skills as ever. Awful music means I have to watch mostly on mute to avoid bleeding from the ears!
If you will change your mind about the flares, you can do something like this: www.britishv8.org/MG/RobFicalora/RobFicalora-IK.JPG
Good luck!
I am not a fan of the moulded in flares on the Z. That was done a lot in the 80's and 90's but the bolt on look was actually a factory option from Datsun when the car was new.
The flares made me so incredibly sad. But its your choice
tartan fan nearly fell off the chair he he
Haha. My favourite.
can you get the print on the back instead off the front??? and maybe the tarten strip on the front???
this on the back homebuiltbyjeff.storenvy.com/products/22453656-tartan-chest-black-unisex-t-shirt
and maybe this on the front?? homebuiltbyjeff.storenvy.com/products/20467796-im-here-dark-short-sleeve-t-shirt
or this on the front ??? homebuiltbyjeff.storenvy.com/products/20247014-logo-black-t-shirt
With your skill, you could've made better flares!
Why didn't you cut inside the car, up through the wheel well, and pull out the side? Would give the whole car a more agressive stance, and still look period. Now it just looks ad-on...
Those 'add on's' were a factory option, so it does look period ;)
Diluted vinegar my friend, will get to that rust like snoop dogg does wees
