    Jeff mate for notching your tube try using a hole saw in your drill press.

    • @HomeBuiltByJeff
      @HomeBuiltByJeff  Před 6 lety

      That would only be good for straight notches, but every single notch on this is angled.

    Hey Jeff, just wanted to say Its been a dream of mine to do a project car like you have, and watching your videos are great inspiration and education for me! I’m a racing driver over in Europe and I haven’t got much experience with a spanner lol but hopefully one day I can send you a photo of my project car which you helped me make!

    • @HomeBuiltByJeff

      Great stuff mate. Driving is fantastic, but it is only half the fun. Being around cars every day, you will have a wealth of knowledgeable guys around you you can learn from. Soak it all in, but there is no experience quite like just giving it a go. I look forward to seeing your project.

    Marking an angle with cardbaord and magnet is a handy idea. Love that Project Binky style CAD design. Going well with that roll cage. How about moving the floor mounts outward toward the B pillar and closer to the wheel arch?

    • @HomeBuiltByJeff
      @HomeBuiltByJeff  Před 6 lety

      That is what I will do I think. I was worried about the top of the bar coming too far forward, as the other consideration is how close to bar is to the drivers head.

    Looks good! I had no idea the rear wheel arches were that close to the drivers seats, looks like quite the cramped situation. I never would have considered that as a potential problem, but everything i've driven lately has had back seats. For some reason it makes me want to buy a 2 seater!

    Be careful with the cutsaw if its a GMC one. I had one before and the cuts weren't very accurately angled at all. Was extremely difficult to get angles exactly how I wanted them. Also, sorry for the video questions, but what mic are you using. Its really clear

      Nice channel. I wish I could just leave them rough sometimes and just thrash the hell out of them. It looks like a whole heap of fun driving, instead of just constantly building ;)

      Home Built By Jeff I have no choice in the matter. Driving is always a priority... Then building. Without being on the road, they would never get ANY love.

    Awesome work as always Jeff, look forward to your videos each week.
    Do you have an update/timeframe on the 911 engine, understand you are having some special work done to it but it seems to be taking ages, want to see that beast finished and driving.

    Very interesting project, thanks for sharing it. The feet of the cage seems to be a weak point, I would reinforce them imho. Anyway, impressive and inspiring effort to justify "rust free" title, keep going. Regards from Brazil!

    • @HomeBuiltByJeff
      @HomeBuiltByJeff  Před 6 lety

      They will be boxed in completely and they are 3mm thick. That is what the rules require.

    • @yam653
      @yam653 Před 6 lety

      Of course, that´s why you just tacked them, I should realize before... By the way, when I work with tubes, I use to use this software, it´s simple and accurate, hope it helps: digitalpipefitter.com/download

    7:17 I always like to use a carpenter bevel to get my angles. Just my preference.

    • @HomeBuiltByJeff
      @HomeBuiltByJeff  Před 6 lety

      That would be great, but I didn't have one on hand. As usual, I will just make do ;)

  • @bloodreighn
    @bloodreighn Před 6 lety +2

    id put a bubble level on the door lower sill and jack up the back end and check that cage angle, you might just get away with it

    • @HomeBuiltByJeff
      @HomeBuiltByJeff  Před 6 lety

      I did, and I think I am pushing the limit. I may have to change it.

    Hey Jeff Thanks for the Awesome videos! This is by far the best series I've seen for a soup to nuts resto project on a Z. Why a roll cage? Are you planning on racing this car?

    • @HomeBuiltByJeff
      @HomeBuiltByJeff  Před 6 lety

      Yes, potentially. At least some track days. Also, because cages are cool ;)

  • @Double0Dennis
    @Double0Dennis Před 6 lety

    I have the same issue in my s30. I bought a bolt in kit, and I can't sit in the car at all. I'm 6' 3" and I had to abandon the harness bar completely. I hope you find a solution we can both use. Great job so far!

    • @HomeBuiltByJeff
      @HomeBuiltByJeff  Před 6 lety +1

      I am going to change the mounting feet to give a bit more space, but I am only 5'8", so I am not sure if there is an easy solution for you. Maybe move the steering wheel forward, but you would need to do something with the pedals too. Being short has it's benefits sometimes ;)

    • @Double0Dennis
      @Double0Dennis Před 6 lety

      Home Built By Jeff hahah definitely does. I thought about it. Maybe I should shrink myself to accommodate the car.

    Hey, hello! I think, the tube need have 90 degrees between the chasis and the pipe. Something like this: www.cartechbooks.com/media/wysiwyg/24_4.jpg
    Or am i wrong? I'm not a profesional, so Im not sure.
    Good luck!

    • @HomeBuiltByJeff
      @HomeBuiltByJeff  Před 6 lety

      By our rules it needs to be between 0 and 10 degrees so I am pushing it.

  • @pigbox5062
    @pigbox5062 Před 6 lety +4

    Just shorten the steering column. problem solved

  • @PedroFTeixeira
    @PedroFTeixeira Před 6 lety

    Couldn'r you make an agle on the base of the main hoop, and use the diagonal part of the base? That would make the hoop go back by a couple of cm.

    • @HomeBuiltByJeff
      @HomeBuiltByJeff  Před 6 lety

      I have seen a few that mount onto the wheel arches, but unfortunately, the rules state that it has to mount to the floor.

  • @georgeobongen2900
    @georgeobongen2900 Před 6 lety

    You can make it look like an eleanor mustang like the one john wick’s using or if you dont want to atleast copy the color

  • @silvermane9370
    @silvermane9370 Před 6 lety

    Great video. Do the regs allow you to notch into the rear arch at all moving the whole assembly back? Or is the inner arch space going to be tight?

    • @HomeBuiltByJeff
      @HomeBuiltByJeff  Před 6 lety

      I possibly could, as long as it still welded to the existing floor, but in my case I want to have it removable and have all of the trim inside.

  • @koolkar55
    @koolkar55 Před 6 lety

    Jeff, can you not take braces either side down the rear pillars back into the boot section? Not wanting to be in a rollover but safety is obviously paramount. Maybe converse with the guy you bought it from as it looks as if he has a race car that has a cage. Also I take it you'll be putting in a front hoop with side roof connections so this also will add to it's rigidity. Cheers Bill.

    • @HomeBuiltByJeff
      @HomeBuiltByJeff  Před 6 lety

      No, this is just going to be a bolt in half cage. Not going the full competition thing at this stage.

  • @JonasKlemets
    @JonasKlemets Před 6 lety +2

    Good work, have you checked what the rulebook says about the mainhoop angle, how much it can be leaning back?
    Im also have a car channel feel free to check it out.
