*Fun fact:* Despite her infamous role in Perseus' story, Medusa still had an important fame in greco-roman culture. In fact, roman emperors had the face of the creature carved on their armor as a way to ward off evil spirits. For example, one of Domitian's busts depicts the emperor with the head of Medusa decorating his chest.
I'm seeing your comments pop up on a lot of the videos I watch. I look forward to the next fun fact.
Perseus is, in my opinion, the very definition of what it means to be a demigod. And unlike most stories of demigod children, he’s one of the few that actually gets a happy ending
indeed, and Perseus later became ancestor to Herakles

Perseus is the only Greek hero to have a happy ending. Medusa has always been one my favorite monsters. We all know her tragic story of how she became a villain, so she'll always have our compassionate sympathy.
That's version is not apart of greek Mythology
She was always a monster in Greek myth, so…
(I’m guessing you got the tragic story idea from the Roman writer Ovid. He was not Greek, and did not write about the Greek gods, and yet his rage fic is still more trusted than actual Greek sources…)

If Perseus petrified Atlas, how did Heracles meet him years later during the Apple of Hesperides labor.?
Maybe it affects the gods for a short time, or it was his other hypostasis. After all, the gods have many hypostases. I also wonder why Athena does not turn to stone? And why didn't Perseus use a shield against the sea monster?
hmmm. loophole
Titian’s are immortal and cannot be killed, he probably stayed a stature for a while then went back to normal
Atlas did turn back to normal after Perseus petrified him.

💛 all your video's bro 👍.
Perseus seems to be one of the few good Greek heroes. While yes, Medusa is tragic, he didn't know about her backstory, and only knew she was a monster terrorizing people. Everytime someone is in trouble, like his mother or Andromeda, he stepped in to try and save them. Personally my favorite Greek hero, and great video
If i had this videos when i was in school 20 years ago, history class would be the easiest. :D
No, it wouldn't. Kids have this today but play Fortnite and can not answer the simplest of questions. Easy does not improve one's brain, people will never understand this basic principle.
The combination of your narration and the exceptional art make all of your content top notch. Your adaptations make the greatest stories from history very easy to grasp and understand. Homer and his contemporaries are not always an easy read.
Perseus greatest hero of all time just like CLASH OF THE TITANS!!😁👏
it all started with a prophecy that caused Danae's father to imprison her, so that she would never bear the son that would cause his death, however, the old king overlooked the fact that the prophecy never said the son had to be fully mortal, Zeus fell in love with Danae and turned into a shower of gold, he entered her prison cell and courted her, Danae became pregnant and gave birth to Perseus, when Danae's father found out, he was so enraged that he locked the mother and son inside a coffin and tossed them into sea, but Zeus arranged things with Poseidon, so the coffin did not sink, instead, it reached shore safely
Perseus would then grow up and be given the mission to take Medusa's head, he was gifted with weapons by the Gods to do so, Hermes offered a pair winged sandals (one of his spare shoes) and a helmet of invisibility (borrowed from Hades) so that Perseus would have a safe travel, Athena offered a sword and a shield with which to fight Medusa with
Perseus found Medusa and her sisters at their temple and cut off Medusa's head (some say he did it like an assassin while she was sleeping, others say he fought a valiant battle against the Gorgons)
upon beheading Medusa, two beings sprung from her body, one was a winged horse named Pegasus, the other was a demigod son of Poseidon named Chrysaor, Perseus jumped on the back of Pegasus and flew away
Pegasus left Perseus on the shores of Argos and flew off, it was here that Perseus met the love of his life, Andromeda, who was chained to be sacrificed to the sea beast, Cetus, to appease Poseidon's wrath against her mother's vanity
Perseus used Medusa's head to petrify Cetus, saving his princess and earning her hand in marriage, they lived happily ever after and became ancestors of other heroes, such as Herakles

Good video ⚔️
Your the best so so so so so so so so awosme I love it you tthe bsst
When Perseus killed Medusa, Medusa was actually pregnant with a pegasus and a giant.
Ya, so technically they're fraternal twins.
From what I heard, rather than being pregnant they both sprang from her neck as she died.
that's also poseidon's kid
some say it was a giant, others say it was a winged boar
either way, by cutting off Medusa's head, Perseus released the children she mothered with Poseidon from her body, one was a winged horse Pegasus and the other was Chrysaor
another version says pegasus wasn't in medusa's tummy. when her blood spilled, some of it fell into the ocean and with that mix, pegasus popped out (kinda like when krono's (i think it was him) genitals fell in the sea near the island of cyprus after they got chopped and aphrodite was born).
Love this story and Clash of the Titans version.

I love Perseus!
Those 2 movies about him are realy realy cool
NICE EDIT!
this guy just killed someone in a discus throwing competition
that cracked me up
and imagine that another version of the myth takes it MUCH further than that. in this version perseus yeeted the disc with such force, it didn't just reach the spectators, it flew out of the stadium, continued above the seas, reached argolia and found directly king accretius at his head killing him 😂😂😂
I thought Perseus killed Medusa while she slept... Also in the version I'm most familiar with he does not propose the idea of killing the Gorgon that is the option given to him when he could not provide a horse. Which was a required gift.
The fighting make the story more fun
Gotta love a self fulfilling prophecy…..if he hadn’t locked up his daughter then Perseus probably wouldn’t have gone on this journey.😬
OK, that part with Atlas makes no sense. If Heracles was Perseus' descendant.
Because when it came to retrieving Golden Apples from Hera's garden, Heracles chose not to enter it. Instead he asked Atlas to help him. Meaning Atlas should have been alive.
HUGE loophole. but that is greek
mythology we're talking about 👌🏽
after Atlas turned into stone. he turned back to normal later. it's unknown if greek gods is immune to it or not.
titans are immortal
It depends on whose story you're listening to with a lot of myths and folklore. There loads of versions and even different endings and characters
Thera are more person than one in greek mythology with the name Hercules...
@@toniametaxa4654 With the same abilities and similar back story?
I thought he defeated Cetus by using Medusa's head and he turned the monster to stone. I must have been mistaken. Great animation.
Most versions also have Cetus depicted as a whale, rather than... whatever *that thing* is. In fact, that's what the constellation is supposed to look like too.
Not really a mistake - I heard the same thing, Perseus turned Cetus into stone by showing him the head of Medusa. A number of mythological stories have slightly different versions.
That version of the fight became dominant thanks to Clash of the Titans.
It's a case where multiple versions of the story exist. In some versions of the story, Perceus kills Cetus with his sword and the blood of Cetus is what made the red sea red. While on other versions, he uses the head of Medusa to turn Cetus to stone.
All this because Zeus did a golden shower😭
I'm sure Zeus and Athena saw what Poseidon did to Medusa yet they choose to not believe Medusa. I guess they choose family over the truth.
Jupiter, Minerva, and Neptune; not Zeus, Athena, and Poseidon. Ovid, who wrote was you are referring to, was a Roman, and wrote about Roman gods. He did not write Greek myths. In Greek myth, Medusa was always a monster, and there is no writing to say she was victimized.
Ask Ovid, he hated what was going on with the Greeks.
Perseus is My second favourite Demigod
Watching this for a school thing
Quick question, Perseus was Hercule's ancestor....yet he turned Atlas to stone. So how then did Atlas retrieve the golden apples for Hercules later on?
Plothole!1!
He's just rock hard after that encounter 😏
I'm guessing since he is a titan, he survived.
the gods probably undid it sine he still needed to be punished, but that story was just a reason to give meaning behind the mountains in norht africa
Fun fact the Greeks consider Persus to be the ancestor of the Persians. The Persians would use this during their invasion of Greece showing a common ancestor. Later Alexander would use this during his invasion of Persia.
Great story but confusing because heracles also met atlas
Atlas is a Titian who holds up the sky as im sure you know. This means any hero can meat him no mater when they were born even if he was once turned too a statue, he would just go back to normal.

Why did Perseus refuse to eat the salad? Because he didn't want to be caught by the Gorgonzola.
There's something hilarious that instead of just karmic retribution or bittersweet act that does in the guy trying to off his kin because its prophesized he'd do the same, Acrisius just gets bonked by accident from Perseus throwing a discus. Probably the funniest way they showed fate as unavoidable
When author was doing that video, he thought that "Clash of the Titans" was the accurate interpretation of greek myths.

When I just started learning about Greek Mythology, Perseus was my hero. But when I knew about Medusa's backstory, I felt sorry for her and hated Perseus for killing her.
Im some stories she is born a gorgon with other sisters. In some she is a victim of the gods.
If anything Perseus ended her suffering of loneliness. Also despite that all of this was for his mother.
The "Priestess Medusa" is a *roman myth from the writer Ovid

Her gaze was deadly only to mortals (though this raises the question of how Atlas was vulnerable, especially if we take into account that Hercules found him alive).

So how did Hercules hold up the sky for Atlas, if Atlas had already been turned to stone by Perseus/Medusa??
Or did I miss something there?
you missed nothing. it's just a huge
loophole in the greek mythology
heracles was four generations later than Perseus
Does anyone else find it funny that since persus is a great-grandfather of Hercules but he's also his big brother cuz they're both the son of Zeus
That golden rain that fell on danaes face was zeus's golden s***m.
One question I have is, if Perseus turned Atlas to stone, then how did Herculese relieve him of his burden to fetch the golden apples? Is their another myth explaining Atlas' restoration?
Basically, it's a plothole. Greek Mythology is VERY old so somes myths will end up contradicting each other

Perseus stands as the most successful of the demigods. He led a heroic life and didn't meet a tragic or ironic end. I know the Clash of the Titans movie took a lot of liberties with the story, but it still serves to make his name known. The classic movie is still one of my favorites, that remake was utter garbage.

You think he hit it?
Medusa was victim of God she was so innocent why so injustice 😭😭
Wait, so if Perseus turned Atlas to stone how was Hercules later able to use him to get the apples?
Atlas was trun to stone....WHAT! Pereuas is the great-grandfather of heracles.
One of the twele labors of heracles,he was to take the golden apples and during that he was tricked by atlas in into holding the sky which heracles tricked him back into holding it. And Atlas was left there. Was atlas unstoned.
Kratos was great and teach us what reality should be
Why is it always someone wanting someone to be away from someone?
Fun Fact: Medusa is not a bad person, she was actually a very kind and honest woman. Medusa is technically Poseidon and Athena's fault. The reason Athena helped Perseus is to free Medusa from her terrible and lonely life.
That's untrue, in the original myths Medusa was a monster that was killing people and Athena helped Perseus since he's her younger brother
@jasonjones3328 its not untrue, there are multiple versions of the story, nothing is really canon in greek mythology.
